9| UNOFFICAL BREAKUP

"Aren't you guys glad I made you come?" Kie spoke as she walked toward the out door theater. JJ, Pope, and Layla trailed close behind her. Layla was relatively upset, she had gone to Sarah's this morning once again only to find she wasn't there today either, leaving her a note on the window seal.

"Just exhilarated." Layla said sarcastically as she sighed, holding her lawn chair in her arms as she walked alongside Kie while the boys trailed behind with coolers.

"Ecstatic." Pope added in.

"My couch was pretty comfy, I got to be honest." JJ sighed, fixing his cap on his head.

"Why so gloomy? You've been like this sense yesterday." Kie commented toward Layla who hadn't stopped sighing.

Layla considered using Sarah's name for a moment, "I kissed this girl and i've been trying to talk to her som how but every time I go over, she's never home."

Kie shrugged, "Maybe she just doesn't want to talk to you."

Layla shrugged with a slight pang in her heart, "Yeah, maybe not."

"I'll get you a Pepsi and a pickle to make you feel better." Kie said, giving Layla a small pat on the hip before walking off. Layla huffed as she sat in her chair, not being able to shake her shitty feeling.

"Hey, so what that you didn't get any pussy? plenty of other girls on the island." JJ said as he smacked Laylas shoe knowingly, throwing a piece of grass at her.

"It's not that, JJ, screw off." Layla rolled her eyes as JJ put his hands up in surrender.

"Just saw Rafe." Kie said as she walked over, handing Layla her pickle and pepsi, "He said, and I quote, tell your boy we know what he did."

Layla chocked on her pickle slightly after her words. Kie looked at her oddly ad the darker girl shook her head, "Real sour."

"Uh, where is he?" JJ asked, trying to keep a straight face.

"Right there." Kie said as she nodded over her shoulder. The trio turned staring at the three of boys.

"Just the sight of them makes me want to cover my drink." Layla said with a nasty look across her face, "They all definitely say their pronouns are nor/mal, stupid whores."

"Great, the whole Death Squad." Pope said in a panic at the sight.

"Don't stare, don't stare." JJ spoke as he turned Popes head back around in the opposite direction, "If they corner me, i'm coming out swinging, okay? I'm on edge right now. If that doesn't work, i've got this right here."

JJ waved his bag in the air as Kies jaw dropped.

"We gotta stay in the group."

"Like a school of fish."

"They can't get us if we're in a school of fish."

"I'm sorry, JJ, please tell me that you did not bring a gun here." Kie said with a serious expression across her face, staring at the blonde in disbelief.

"You really thought he wouldn't? Homeboys like hella attached to that thing now, bet he'd sale his left ball before giving it up." Layla commented before popping her can open, taking a swig of it quickly, "If he had any to start with."

"No! I didn't bring the gun, okay? Everything's fine." JJ said quickly as Layla huffed in disbelief, "Wanna look for yourself, mama?"

"I'm okay, your bag probably has fifty STD's on it." Layla spoke knowingly.

"You can't get STD's through a b-" Pope began before he was cut off.

"I know that, Pope!" she snapped at him knowingly, "Do I have to remind you of who's preacher father taught sex education last year?"

"Bad memory." the boy said with a shake of his head.

"No secrets amongst pogues, what is Rafe talking about?" Kie demanded to know, looking at the trio in all seriousness with a glare upon her features.

"Kie, it might go down tonight." Pope said dramatic as Layla pinched the bridge of her nose.

"What does that mean?" she asked with a stupid expression, "It might go down tonight? What did y'all do?"

"Definitely worth enough to lose my job if they know." Layla said as she looked over at Topper, "There goes my summer."

"Okay, you weren't mentioned." Kie said quickly, "Tell me what the hell they're talking about."

Layla stared at her before sighing.

"They've been gone a bit, haven't they?" Layla commented after the boys left in the middle of the movie, saying they needed a pee break, "Think they're wanking each other off?"

"Layla." Kie groaned as the girl shrugged before looking over her shoulder, "They're gone."

Layla turned, finding Rafe, Topper, and Kelce all gone from their seats. She didn't answered, hurrying to her feet and running off toward the direction the boys said they'd be.

"Get off of him, Topper! Fascist asshole!" Kie yelled out first as she saw Topper with Pope in a hard, tight chock hold.

"Really didn't like that first nose job, did you, Rafe?" Layla asked as she tackled him from the side, the pair falling over as JJ got free of Kelces grip and began hitting him, "I'll give it to you half price this time."

Her fist collided with his nose, blood pouring immediately onto her hands, Rafe flipped the pair over, hitting Layla across the face as she groaned at the contact.

"Layla!" JJ hollered out just as her knee collided with the middle of Rafes legs, shoving him off of her as her foot hit his ribs.

"Admit it! Admit you did it!" Topper yelled at Pope after he threw Kie off of him, "I'll give you one chance, one chance!"

Rafe kicked Layla legs out from under her, having her fall onto the ground as his hands went around her neck. Layla gasped for air, his legs holding her own down. Her hands ripped at his knuckles, struggling as she saw spots. Reaching up she scratched her nails across his face as he cried out, letting her go and holding his face in pain.

Layla gasped for air as Kie lit the fire, pulling Layla from the ground as the Winters girl couched.

"Fire, fire!" Topper said quickly as he let Pope go, the boy couching as Kelce got off JJ, running along side a bloody Rafe as the three were off.

"Pope, you alright?" Layla asked quickly as she pulled him up, JJ came over quickly as Layla examined his bruised, "Cmon, Kie, grab the bag!"

Kie grabbed the bag as the four hurried off as quick as they could, helping each other on the way.

The next day, in the pouring rain, Layla ran to the Cameron household. She'd hoped third time was a charm, hoping Sarah had been there. Her face ached, Rafe leaving a nasty black eye on her along with a bruised neck that was nearly impossible to hide, thankfully Layla crashed at Kies rather then going home.

Rocks hit Sarah's window, the girl still red in the face from her recent trip. As she moved to her window seal, her eyes found the Winters girl looking up at her in the pouring rain. Sarah's hearts thumped as she ran down the stairs, her newly changed clothes getting soaked once again as she walked out into the rain.

"Layla? It's freezing!" Sarah said in shock, meeting the girl in the back yard. Layla blinked, rubbing her eyes as the rain poured into them, "Your face! What happened?"

"Miner inconvenience." Layla shrugged her off, watching as Sarah's blonde hair looked a light brown as it got wet, "I've been trying to talk to you, every time i've come by, you haven't been here."

Sarah looked in shock, a flash of regret across her face at her words, "You- you did?"

"Yeah, yesterday and the day before. I didn't mean to leave you so quickly that morning, my dad is really strict on Wednesday service, i'm really sorry!" she had to speak loudly over the rain, it pouring down on the pair as they both shivered. Sarah was silent, her mind was racing. She'd been mopping around thinking Layla had abandoned her for the past two days, it's the whole reason she had ended up letting her go in the process, assuming it was just that.

"I just thought-" Sarah began as she sighed, looking at the beautiful shade of Layla's eyes deepen as she stared at her, "I just thought thats was it, that you didn't want to see me."

"Are you kidding? I loved talking to you." Layla said quickly as Sarah looked pained by her words, "I loved everything about that night, jesus Sarah, I really like you."

Sarah went silent for a second, worrying Layla as she breathed heavy, "Layla."

"Sarah." the Winters girl repeated as the Cameron girl looked away.

"I just-" she began.

I just wanted to be with you.

"I just don't think I feel that way." Sarah spoke, hesitation and unbelievably in her voice. Layla's heart sunk as she straight at her, "I was just... upset, and you were so good at comforting and talking to me."

Layla blinked, like she'd been stuck in a bad dream and was hoping she'd wake up, "So you just... you just don't like me in that way?"

Sarah didnt say anything. Layla sighed, shaking her head, "What happened to me knowing you? To you saying how much you wanted me around? Was that a lie?"

"I don't know, okay?" Sarah snapped at her quickly, "I just... there's someone else."

"What? Topper? Your blue balls boyfriend who looks like he self tans for a living?" Layla asked in disbelief as Sarah ran her hands through her soaked locks and shook her head. Layla stared at her in shock, her eyelashes getting beads of raindrops within them, "So there's someone else else else?"

Sarah looked guilty as she stared at her, "I thought you didn't want me!"

"I do want you! So much!" Layla said back quickly as Sarah shook her head quickly.

"It doesn't matter, I can't do this, not again!" the Cameron girl said quickly a she looked back at her door, "I have to go."

"Sarah, wait." Layla said quickly as she tried to catch the Cameron girl by the arm, but it had been too late, the blonde had already ran off.

Sarah fell on her bed with a sob, her soaking clothes soaking the bed sheets her and Layla had laid together on just a few days ago. She cried because she was so quick to not give her a chance, was too in deep with someone else to call it off for his best friend barely a hour in. She wanted Layla, but she'd wanted John B just as much.

Sarah walked to her window, seeing Layla walk off back into the woods, walking slow with her head hung. Sarah's hand collided with a small paper on her window seal, folded neatly to make it look like a envelope. Carful to pull it open, she stared down at it.

Sarah,

I've come by your house twice now and each time I haven't been able to catch you. I'm really sorry for running off the other morning, I hope you can understand all things considering. I had a really good time the other night and I hope we could do it again, maybe a bit more proper this time. If you want we can head to the beach sometime or run through the forest and pretend we're princesses that hate their forced husbands.

Anyways, I hope I catch you soon, I think we should really talk.

Xo- Layla.

Sarah let out another sob as she crumbled the paper and fell back onto her bed.
