4| THE WORLDS A SLUT

Layla couldn't explain what she was feeling. After the near death experience back at John B's, it was safe to say she needed time away from her friends. Maybe that was selfish of her, but right now she needed to put herself first. She thought about their yells, the way they beat the door, the way the window took a while to open, the way they had to hide in the chicken coop, the way JJ had to kill a chicken.

It was a lot.

Layla didn't wanna go home, her dad would only make it worse. He was relatively good at sensing when something was wrong with his daughter, she'd been the only person he had to care for daily. It wasn't hard to see when Layla was scared or sad or mad, any emotion she had would spread across her face or leak from her mouth when she spoke. That being said she decided to go to the beach instead, sitting near the water with a sigh.

"Where's your maid uniform?" a voice spoke up quickly. When Layla turned she found Sarah standing there with a sarcastic grin.

"Off duty." Layla said with a forced smile before turning back to look at the ocean. She could hear Sarah's flip flops start to walk away, "You can stay... if you want."

"I come out here a lot." Sarah spoke, sitting down next to Layla with a sigh, "Sometimes with Topper."

"Oh yes, lovely couple on the beach, how romantic." her words were sarcastic as she leaned back on her hands. It wasn't a secret Layla hadn't been a fan of Topper, Sarah wanted to say something about it but avoided it as the sunset beamed down on the unexpected pair.

"Not so sure about that anymore." Sarah mumbled, wanting to hold herself back from venting to a girl she'd barley knew. Layla felt familiar though, their few little encounters enough for Sarah to enjoy her company more then she did her usual friends she'd see every day.

"Don't tell me you two broke up." Layla spoke, her tone still had sarcasm in it as she sat up better, "No more Prince Eric and Cinderella?"

Sarah snorted loudly as she looked at her in disbelief, "Prince Eric was Ariels... and no, just a fight."

"Tiana is superior." Layla said with a grin, "Seven year old me was pretty happy to see a princess that look like me, even if she was a frog most of the movie."

"Tiana had a good personality, a lot of the other ones seem to have a stereotypical story." Sarah explained as she traced shapes into the sand next to her. Layla nodded alongside her, though Sarah couldn't see.

"So what happened with Toppy?" Layla asked, Sarah rolled her eyes at the nickname, "Odd name for such a bottom, he is a bottom, isn't he?"

"I don't know." Sarah laughed as she looked to Layla with a crazy look.

"What do you mean? You have to know." Layla laughed, not taking Sarah seriously before the blonde flushed and look down, "Wait, you two haven't slept together?"

"Nope." Sarah said, popping the P. Layla began to feel guilty for laughing, seeing Sarah's embarrassment across her face.

"It's really not a big deal, honestly." Layla spoke as she nudged Sarah a bit harder then expecting, "The while Virgin and No Virgin thing isn't even real."

"What do you mean?" Sarah asked confused, her perfectly shaped brows frowning toward the Pogue.

"It's really just a word, it doesn't mean anything. Either way people will be assholes. If you aren't a virgin you'll be called a slut but if you are then you're a tease... you really can't win so it's best to just think it's not a real thing and go with the flow." Layla shrugged her shoulders as she stretched her arms slightly before sighed and sinking her hands into the sand.

"You're right." Sarah nodded in agreement to Layla's words, being the one to lean back on her hands now, "The worlds fucked."

"So fucked." Layla said before she snorted, "The worlds a slut."

"The world is such a slut!" Sarah explained with a laugh at Layla words, hitting her slightly with her sandy hand, "Where's your friends?"

"Not sure... I just needed away for a little bit." Layla said without thinking, coming up with a excuse quickly, "So my dad says, he wanted me to leave them alone for a little bit. I've been kinda clinging on to them since I got back."

"Yeah, you went to that church camp thing, didn't you? I saw you posted on your story." Sarah nodded as she leaned back on her elbows, making Layla do the same to allow the sun to hit the rest of her body.

"Something like that." Layla spoke, avoiding talking about the situation, "You follow me?"

"You accepted my request." Sarah said with a laugh toward Layla as if she wasn't serious.

"I accept everyone, literally." Layla said with a eye roll, "Toxic trait of mine I guess."

"Accepting follow request?" Sarah questioned as she shut her eyes in relaxation.

"No, like, letting just anyone come into my life. Attachment issues I guess." Layla explained with a shrug of her shoulders, "Your turn."

"Mine turn what?" Sarah asked confused.

"Your toxic trait." Layla said, waiting for Sarah to go on.

"Trusting people too easily." the Cameron girl answered honestly, "Someone could smile at me and suddenly i'd trust them with my life."

"I understand that." Layla nodded, "Have you been betrayed in the past? That's a common issue in trusting people quickly."

"How do you know this?" Sarah asked with a amusing laugh.

"I wanna be a therapist, specifically a family therapist." Layla said with a half grin toward Sarah before looking up at the sky again, "What do you wanna be?"

"Probably just work for my dad, it's what he wants anyways." Sarah spoke knowingly as she shut her eyes again, "Since Rafe dropped collage."

"Your brothers a loser." Layla explained as Sarah chuckled slightly.

"I know." she spoke. Layla went to open her mouth before a horn was heard. The pair turned their heads to see John B's van at the end of the beach.

"We gotta go!" JJ yelled out the window. Layla hated being seen with Sarah, knowing she'd get a hard time for it.

"Shit, I gotta go." Layla said as she stood up quickly and took off without a goodbye.

"Bye." Sarah said with a eye roll at Layla's rude ways, turning back to the ocean again. Layla threw her sandals into the van before opening the back, being met with a glaring and arms crossed Kie.

"Why were you talking to her?" she asked, venom in her words as she stared at Layla with so much anger.

"Jesus Christ, because she was on the beach." Layla spoke annoyed as she took a seat.

"You had the whole beach left." Kie snapped at her as John B drove off.

"Hey, both of you, just chill." John B scolded the pair as he looked through the mirror knowingly before continuing down the road.
