Matt left and it was just Kenna and Chris. She could feel the tension between them, but it was awkward, since they haven't really spoke to each other much. She kept looking over at him, and he was just looking at her.
Chris wanted to say something to her, but he got scared. He wished that they could just talk, but now they might not ever want to talk to each other again. He just looked at her, thinking if she was feeling the same way he was. He noticed how she felt awkward in this situation, the way she was shifting her feet back and forth, the way she pursed her lips, and the way she kept glancing over at him..
She let out a sigh before speaking, "What do you want Chris?" She groaned, snapping Chris out of his thoughts.
"Uhh, what?" He responded, confused.
She groaned and rolled her eyes, "I said, what do you want?"
"I- nothing. I don't know what you're talking about."
They both just stood there in silence, but this time it was like a more comfortable silence. She wanted to say something, tell him she's sorry about pushing him away, but she didn't.
"Why haven't you talked to me all day?" chris spoke, breaking the awkward silence between them.
She looked at him, lost for words, then she looked down at the ground and sighed. "Maybe because you haven't talked to me all day." she responded.
He let out a sigh. "okay, well im sorry."
She just rolled her eyes. "whatever."

Kenna walked into class her 6th period class and looked for any of her friends. nobody. not one of her friends was in there. not even her brother. she let out a disappointing sigh and plopped down in one of the seats in the very back. she started to zone out, bouncing her leg up and down. she almost felt like crying, but she held the tears back. she hasย already cried enough. she heard someone sit in the seat next to her, but she didn't pay much attention at first. then she felt some tap her shoulder. she let out a annoyed sigh and looked over to her right, and it was Chris. great.
"can you stop bouncing your leg? it's getting annoying." he gestured his hand at her leg, which pissed her off a little bit.
"why are being mean to me all of the sudden?" she asked, ignoring his question.
"I don't know, maybe because your getting on my nerves." he responded as he shrugged his shoulders and leaned back in his chair.
she looked at him hurt, but she just looked away. she knew he was lying. that wasn't the reason why he was being mean to her. she was a little hurt because now he acts like he hates her. she missed her best friend.
the bell rung and the teacher started talking about the class procedures and whatever else they talk about. Kenna wasn't listening, she just looked at a spot in the floor and zoned out. Chris was trying to talk to her about something, but she wasn't listening to him either. she was just ready to leave school.

After school, her and Avery walked out to the triplets car because they were just going to ride to their house since they were going over there for the project. She scooted in next to Nick, then Avery did the same, scooting in the seat next to Kenna.
"hey KJ." Matt said as he smiled at her through the rear view mirror.
"Hey Matt." she replied, smiling back at him.
"Hey Matt." Avery added, smiling at him as he looked at her through the rear view mirror.
He smiled at her, then quickly looked in front of him, trying to hide the fact that he was blushing, but Kenna noticed.
"Why are you blushing so hard, Matt?" She laughed, teasing her friend.
"Uhh, im not." Matt denied, even though it was obvious that he was blushing.
"can we just go home already?" Chris asked, pissed off.
Kenna looked at him, her eyebrows raised. "Someone's is a bad mood."
"Shut up. I didn't ask for your opinion." he responded as he turned back in his seat to look at her.
"what? i was just making a statement." she shrugged.
"okay both of you shut up." Nick snapped, tired of hearing them argue.
they both just rolled their eyes and slumped down in their seat a little bit. Kenna turned to talk at her brown-haired friend. they stared talking and Avery said something that made Kenna laugh. Chris noticed her laugh, remembering the times when he use to make her laugh. a feeling a sadness washed over him, and he sighed slightly, trying not to let anyone notice.
"you good Chris?" Matt asked, quickly looking at him.
"huh? oh, yeah. i'm fine." he replied, looking out his window.
Matt nodded his head, even though Chris couldn't see him, and looked in front of him. Kenna noticed, and she looked at Chris quickly.
he's definitely not okay, she thought.
they arrived at their house, and Matt parked the van as he pulled up. they got out of the van and went inside, all exhausted from school. Kenna and Avery plopped down on the couch, relaxing for a little bit before Matt walked up and sat next to Avery.
"do y'all wanna go ahead and start the project? i want to get it over with."
Kenna let out a sigh. "yeah sure. that's fine with me."
"yeah. let's go ahead and get done with this." Avery added.
the three of them walked to Matt's room and started on the project. about an hour later they decided they were going to take a break. Kenna had to use the bathroom, so she got up and turned to her two friends.
"im gonna go to the bathroom real quick. i'll be back."
they both say okay as they look at her, and she walks out of his bedroom and starts walking towards the bathroom when she feels someone grab her wrist. she turns around quickly to see Chris. she lets out a big sigh and looks at him.
"what do you want?" she whispered.
"oh, i don't know. i wanted to talk to you, but now your acting like, this." he whispered back to her as he gestured his hand at her.
she furrowed her eyebrows. "what's thats supposed to mean, Chris?"
"oh, i don't know." he shrugged.
she looked at him for a second, not knowing what to say, then she let out a sigh. "okay, look. can i just, explain myself?"
"explain yourself? i don't need you to explain yourself. i was trying to contact you all summer, and you wouldn't even talk to me." his voice pitched a little bit higher, trying not to cry.
"look, i know. im sorry, okay? i didn't mean to, i didn't even want that to happen, but i had so much going on that i just, couldn't."
"i could've been there for you. i could've helped you get through it. but you didn't want my help, did you?" he replied, sounding detached.
she felt like crying. she bit her lip and looked at the ground, then back at him. "i did want your help. but i didn't want to hurt you, Chris." she answered.
"you wouldn't have hurt me."ย he spoke in a low and soft tone.
she looked up at him, "i'm sorry, Chris." she replied in a soft tone.
she waited for him to say something, maybe for him to hug her, but he just let out a sigh. "whatever. just, leave me alone."
she blinked and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. she opened her mouth to say something, but before she could say anything he walked past her and brushed his shoulder against hers. she turned around and watched him walk back to his room. she felt like breaking down. she felt hurt, like someone had just pulled her heart out of her chest.
she started breathing quickly, and she quickly walked to the bathroom. she put her hands on the sink, closed her eyes and focused on her breathing. she heard someone knock on the door, and she opened her eyes slowly.
"who is it?" she asked, trying not to cry.
"it's Matt. are you okay?" he responded with concern.
"uhh, yeah. i'll be out in a minute." she replied, knowing that shes not okay.
"okay, we're waiting for you." he replied back.
she walked out of the bathroom and saw matt standing there in front of the bathroom door. he smiled at her and she smiled back, reassuring him that she's okay, even though she knows she's not. they both walk back to his room, chatting until they got there. she sat down on the end of his bed where avery was sitting on the floor, and matt sat in his gaming chair.
"i'm gonna play some fornite, do either of you wanna play? or do y'all just wanna watch me play?" he asked as he put on his headphones.
"i'll play with you matt." avery replied as she got up and walked over there.
"kj?" matt asked as he turned around to her.
"i'm good. i'll just watch you two play." she replied with a smile.
"okay then." he gave her a soft smile and turned back around.
she didn't really feel like playing, mostly because she's thinking about the conversation with chris.
