Kenna was close friends with the triplets. The reason why she was so close with them was because of her twin brother, Noah. Noah was on the lacrosse team, and that's how he became friends with Matt and Chris. Kenna and Noah have known them since 5th grade. But, towards the end of their junior year, things started to get in the way. Their mom started drinking again, and she would get mad for no reason and hit Kenna, but it was only her. Their dad left them after he found out their mom started drinking again. Kenna soon became depressed, and she pushed everyone away. She didn't mean to. She just didn't want to talk to anybody. The only person she could talk to was Noah.
The whole summer, Nick, Matt, and especially Chris, tried to get in contact with her, but she wouldn't answer them. She knew they were worried about her. She started to realize how much she needed them, how much she need Chris. She told him what had happened the first time her mom started drinking. He gave her his hoodie so she could think of him if it ever happened again, and she was, in fact, wearing his hoodie.
**flashback**
Kenna ran out of the house after her mom had just hit her. It was getting dark, but she didn't care. She ran to the park, since it wasn't far from her house, and sat down on a bench and started crying as she sat down. A few moments later, she heard someone walking up to her. She looked up to see who it was, and she was relieved to see Chris walking up to her.
"What are you doing out here?" He said, slightly whispering.
She couldn't even get the words out, she just stood up and hugged him really tight, crying as she buried her face into his chest. After a while, she pulled away, then looked up at him.
"I'm sorry, Chris." She said, whispering.
"Hey, its okay. What happened?" He spoke softly.
"It was mom. She started drinking again and she, she hit me." She said, almost crying again.
Chris looked at her, anger starting to rise in him because of her mom, but he stopped himself from going absolutely crazy. He felt so bad for her.
"I'm sorry, Kenz. You don't deserve this, and neither does Noah."
"Thank you, Chris. I'm glad your here." She slightly smiled, then spoke softly.
"Here, take my hoodie. It cold out, and plus, you can wear it again if it get bad again." He said as he took off his hoodie.
"Chris-"
"No, im serious. Take it." He cut her off as he handed her the hoodie.
She sighed as she rolled her eyes with a little smile. "Okay fine."
He smiled as she pulled the hoodie over her head. She looked up at her best friend and hugged him.
"Thank you, Chris." She spoke softly.
He slightly smiled. "You're welcome, Kenz. You know im always here for you when you need me, right?"
"Yeah, I know." She spoke softly.
**back to the present**
It was her senior year and she finally started to feel better. She decided that she was going to school the next day to see the triplets. But, that left an uneasy feeling in her stomach.
What if they're mad at me because I pushed them away? What if they never want to talk to me again?, she thought.
It was the next day and she got out of bed and looked for something to wear, but she didn't have any clean clothes. So she wore the outfit she was already wearing, which was Chris's hoodie and some sweatpants. She brushed her hair out and put it in a low ponytail when someone knocked on her door.
Please don't be mom, she thought.
"Come in." She said.
The door opened and a brown-haired boy came in. He looked at her confused, but happy. He sat on her bed and sighed.
"You going to school?"
"Yeah. But Noah, I have a question."
"What is it?" He said.
She let out a sigh. "Do you think the triplets will want to talk to me?"
He looked at her, not sure what to say. "Of course they will. They can't ignore you forever."
She turned back around and looked im the mirror, then she sighed. "What if they hate me?"
"They don't hate you-"
"But you don't know that." She said as she turned back around, looking at her brother.
Noah looked at her like she was crazy. He's never heard her talk like this before. He put his hands on his knees as he got up, and let out a sigh.
"Okay, whatever. Meet me out at the car. We need to leave in a few minutes."
"Okay. I'll be out there in a minute."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you too." She said annoyed.
Kenna really wasn't looking forward to seeing the triplets again, but at the same time she really did want to. It was just Chris she was really worried about. She put on her shoes and grabbed her bag and walked out to the car and got in.
"You ready?" Noah said.
She let out a sigh, and nodded her head. "Yeah, I think so."
"Okay then. Lets go." He said.
He started driving to the school and they just talked the whole time until they arrived at school. Kenna took a deep breath before getting out, and Noah noticed.
"You good?" He said, concerned.
She turned her head towards him,ย "Yeah, im fine."
"Okay, I was just making sure. oh look, there's the triplets." He said as the both of them got out.
She looked to see where they were and she saw Nick, and she just stood there as Nick gave her a smile, but then his smile faded when he saw that she just stood there not returning the smile.
"Kenna come on. Its okay."
"I-im sorry. I don't know why I did that."
"Hey, its okay. Let's just go over there." He slightly smiled at her.
She smiled back at her brother and the two of them walked over there. Nick walked to Kenna and gave her a big hug.
"Hi Kenna! I haven't seen you in forever. Are you okay?"
"Yeah im fine, im really sorry for pushing you guys away." She looked down at the ground, embarrassed.
"Hey, its okay. I get it. We all have problems that we deal with and sometimes we need some space."
She bit her lip, trying not to cry. She pulled away from the hug when she saw Matt get out of his car. He smiled at her, and she smiled back.
"Hey KJ, I haven't seen you in like,ย forever." Matt said as he walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Yeah I know. Im really sorry for pushing you away all summer. I feel really bad." She said as she returned the hug.
"Hey, its okay. We all have are ups and downs." He said as he pulled away from the hug.
He smiled at her, and she returned the smile. Matt was always able to put a smile on her face, even when she was having a bad day. Noah dapped up Matt and they hugged.
"Hey Matt. I feel like I haven't seen you in forever."
Matt laughed. "Bro I literally just saw you the other day."
"Have you guys seen Chris?" She asked nervously.
She wanted to see Chris, but she felt like he wouldn't want to see her, but she didn't care. All she wanted was to see her best friend again. Matt looked at her, and he sighed.
"Uhh I think he's with his girlfriend inside." He pointed to the school building.
When he said that, she felt her heart drop to her stomach. Him? A girlfriend? She didn't know why she was so shocked. Maybe it's because she had a crush on her best friend and thought, maybe he felt the same about her.
"Girlfriend?" She said with sadness in her voice.
"Uhh, yeah." He looked at her, feeling bad for her.
Matt knew she liked Chris. Liked him more than a friend. He felt bad for her, but he didn't know what to do since Chris was mad at her, but Kenna didn't know that yet.
"Umm, so Kenna, what's your first class?" Nick asked, trying to change the subject.
"Oh, I have science. What about you?" She replied.
"Omg, I have that class too!"
"Oh thank god. I don't know what I would do if I had nobody in there. Matt, what class do you have?"
"I have math. I hate math so much."
"Damn that sucks."
"I have math too." Noah added.
"Oh thank god. At least a have someone in that class I can talk to." Matt replied back.
"Okay well, me and Kenna are gonna go to class." Nick said, looking at his friend.
"Okay. bye Nick, bye KJ." Matt said.
"Bye Matt." Kenna replied.
"Hey kJ, if you ever need anything, just text me, okay?" Noah said.
"I will Noah." She smiled.
Her and Nick walked into the building and as they were catching up, someone caught her attention. It was Chris. She stopped walking, causing Nick to stop and turn around. He looked at her, confused.
"Why'd you stop walking?"
"Because, Chris is over there and I'm scared he's gonna be mad and not want to talk to me."
"Kenna, its okay. He wont get mad at you." He smiled, hoping to make her feel better.
She hesitated for a moment, thinking if she should really go over there and talk to him, but she let out a sigh and they continued walking. Chris saw her, and her heart dropped. He looked like he didn't want to see her, or at least, that's what she thought. She felt tears filling up her eyes, but she blinked them away quickly. Nick walked over to Chris, and Kenna followed.
"Hey Chris, what class do you have?" Nick asked, hoping he might be in the same class as him and Kenna.
"Uhh, history, why?" He said, clearly annoyed.
"Dude chill, I was just asking what class you had."
Chris rolled his eyes. His girlfriend, Tessa, kept giving Kenna a dirty look, and she felt uncomfortable. Chris noticed, and he felt bad for her. But he couldn't do anything because Tessa would think that he was cheating on her or something.
Why does she hate me already? I haven't even said a word to her, she thought.
"Chris, aren't you going to say hi to Kenna? Or give her a hug? I thought you would be more excited to see her." Nick said, clearly wanting him to talk to her.
"Yeah, hey Kenna." He said, showing no emotion.
She felt her heart ache, and she wanted to cry, but she didn't. She knew he was going to act like this.
Ouch, that really hurt, she thought.
"Chris! She's your best friend. Why are you acting like this?"
"Nick, can you just leave me alone?" He snapped.
Nick kind of jumped, then he sighed.
"Fine, whatever. Come on Kenna, let's just go to class."
She looked at Chris one more time, and he looked back at her. It looked like he was wanted to tell her something, but she just ignored it. She nodded her head and followed Nick. They walked in the classroom and sat down in the back. Nick turned to her, and saw that she was about to cry.
"Im sorry Kenna, i didnt know he was gonna act like that. I thought he was going to be more excited to see you." He said, feeling sorry for her.
"Its fine, Nick. I knew he was going to act like this."
"No, its not fine. Thats your best friend, and he would never act like that."
She looked at him and sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldnt've even came to school. I knew this was gonna happen."
"Don't be sorry. I'm glad you came. If you never came to school, I don't know what I would do without you."
She slightly smiled. "Your the best Nick."
"I know I am." He smiles.
After first period, they all met back up with each other. She saw Chris and Tessa, and she rolled her eyes. While they were waiting for Matt and Noah, Chris spoke.
"Whats your problem?" He said to Kenna, pissed.
She rolled her eyes. "Oh, now you want to talk to me?"
He let out a short sigh. "Just answer my question."
"Nothings wrong."
"I know when were lying."
She hesitated, then sighed. "I said nothings wrong."
He rolled his eyes. "Whatever."
"Nick, im gonna go to the bathroom. If Noah asks where I'm at, just tell him I'm in the bathroom." She said as she turned to her friend.
"Okay, I will."
She went to the bathroom, and Tessa finally spoke. "Baby, I'm gonna go to the bathroom to."
He looked at her confused. "Okay?"
Tessa left and followed Kenna to the bathroom. Kenna stood in front of the mirror looking at herself, trying not to cry. She felt someone tap on her shoulder, and she turned around and saw Tessa.
She rolled her eyes. "What do you want?"
"I want you to stop looking at my boyfriend."
She furrowed her eyebrows. "What are you talking about? I've known Chris since 5th grade. He's my best friend."
"Are you sure he's you best friend? Because he wasn't happy that you pushed him away."
She sighed. "Why do you care about it so much? Thats none of your business."
She got closer to her face. "Because you hurt my boyfriend. So stay away from him, or you will regret it."
She just rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Justย leave me alone."
Tessa let out a scoff and walked out, and Kenna stood there for a minute before walking out. She took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom, and walked over to everyone else. As she was walking, she felt someone tap on her shoulder. She turned around and saw her bsf, Avery.
"Avery?!"
"Hi Kenna! I haven't seen you in so long!" She hugged her.
"Im sorry for pushing you away all summer."
"Its okay, KJ. I understand why." She said as she looked at the hoodie Kenna was wearing.
Kenna looked down, then back up at Avery. "Oh, yeah."
"Did it get worse this time?"
"Yeah. Dad left after he found out mom was drinking again."
"Oh, im sorry. You dont deserve to go through that, and neither does Noah."
She smiled. "Thanks Avery. I love you."
"Thats why im here for you. And I love you too."
"Wanna go over there with me?" She points to where the triplets, Noah, and Tessa was.
Avery hesitated, then sighed. "Yeah, sure."
They both walked over there and Kenna smiled at Nick, then at Matt. She ignored Chris because he was acting like he didnt want to see her again.
Why did she ignore me? Well, I kind of was being mean earlier, but thats because she didnt even talk to me this time, Chris thought.
"What class do you have now Kenna?" Nick asked.
"Umm, I have history." Kenna replied.
"I have that class too." Matt said.
"Omg me too! What about you Nick?" Avery asked.
"Oh, I've got art." Nick said, a little sad.
"Oh. What class do you have Noah?" Kenna said.
He let out a groan. "I have science."
"I have science too." Chris said, also letting out a groan.
"Okay, well, let's go to class." Kenna said.
They all say bye to each other and they went to their classes. Her, Matt, and Avery walked to their class and sat down in the back.
"Why didn't you talk to Chris?" Matt asked Kenna.
She let out a sigh. "Because it seemed like he didn't want to talk to me."
"Oh. I thought he would want to talk to you."
"Yeah. It's okay though."
"KJ, it's not okay. You and Chris use toย be like, really close."
"He really does miss you though." Avery said.
She sighed, looking at her two friends.
"Then why is he being rude to me?"
"I have no fucking clue." Matt said, sighing.
The bell rung and the teacher clapped her hands to get everyone's attention.
"Okay class. Today, I will need you to get in groups of three, because you will be doing a presentation. It will be due next week, so you have all week, plus the whole weekend."
The three of them looked at each other, and Kenna smiled.
"Wanna be in a group together?"
"Omg yes! We need to catch up." Avery said, excited.
"Yeah sure. You two can come to my house after school if y'all want." Matt said.
"Uhmm.." she looked at Avery, because she doesn't know what Avery would want to do.
"Yeah, sure. That sounds like fun." Avery said as she looked at her friend.
