Chapter 17- Awakening Powers
What happened back there is bothering me. I keep thinking about the ominous creature I encountered.
Kim Taehyung walks beside me while Jungkook follows behind us. His eyes are fixed on the ground, his head hanging low. Even Taehyung is silent. Neither of them utters a word as we descend the stairs. The whole castle is clouded with a sinister feeling.
I don't feel good at all.
The entire castle is submerged in silence. I feel uncomfortable with all the quiet around me. I clear my throat, breaking the ice between us. I turn to the man walking beside me.
"Taehyung?" He turns his gaze towards me. His long, lavish eyes with purple pupils leave me breathless for a moment.
Damn, he feels so unreal. Even for a demigod, he's too good-looking.
"Yes?" he asks, trying to smile. I can tell he's just as bothered by the grimlorn barging into their territory. Even though he smiles, I see the worry in his face.
I feel like I should say a word of comfort.
"Everything will be alright," I say with a smile. He nods in agreement, curving his lips into a wider smile.
"I hope so, I really hope so," he says, setting his gaze on the far-off surreal landscape in front of us.
"Why is this happening? I mean, what happened to your kingdom?" I ask him. As his smile fades with my words, I instantly regret asking.
Taehyung lets out a deep sigh.
"This kingdom relies on the power of the Luna Flower. Every living being is subject to life by the rules of the power created by the Luna Flower. It's our power core, Y/N," he glances at me.
"That flower Namjoon said we have to find before it's too late? The one holding the greatest powers?"
He nods.
"That's right. For a few years now, the kingdom has been facing some hazardous experiences. We assume the dark power that was destroyed two thousand and thirteen years ago has awakened again. The evil is wielding its power uncontrollably. Things have gotten worse now..." I feel the darkness in his voice as he speaks.
It's only been a short while since I came to this kingdom, but I can already feel it growing on me.
"So your only hope is to find a way to revive your energy core again, isn't it?" He looks at me and chuckles.
"You're a smart one for your kind."
"Well, I was top of my class in high school."
"What's high school?" Taehyung looks at me with surprise as if he's never heard of it. I laugh as he asks, "What's high school?"
He's kidding, right?
But he's still looking at me cluelessly.
Oh, so he's serious.
"Well, uh, high school is where students go to learn until they pass out to college or find a job or something. They teach stuff like math, science, and some gibberish that really doesn't matter," I explain, and his mouth forms an 'O' shape.
"Doesn't make much sense to me, but okay," he says. I laugh loudly.
"School doesn't make sense to me either."
I glance back at Jungkook, who isn't joining our chat. He just walks behind us. As I look at him, he suddenly looks up at me. Our eyes meet, and I quickly look away, continuing to walk with Taehyung.
Remembering what happened in the hallway makes me blush when I make eye contact with him.
What was he trying to say back then? He couldn’t finish because we were interrupted.
We arrive at the garden where Namjoon took me for a walk the previous day. Well, a garden would be an understatement for their backyard. It's a whole forest. In the daylight, it looks more lively and green. Just like at night, it has an alluring beauty that leaves me in awe.
The lavender-colored small flowers dangle in the breeze, spreading their enchanting fragrance all over the place. I close my eyes and breathe in the fresh air. As my lungs fill with the amazing fresh scent, I can feel my body relax. The trees and the vines running along them look evergreen. The moisture collected under the leaves glistens as sun rays pierce through them.
"Alrighty, you ready to start?" Taehyung asks me. I nod with excitement.
"First, you have to concentrate, meditate, and awaken the power within you," Jungkook speaks for the first time as he steps closer to me.
"Have you felt yourself attracted to something since you arrived here?"
Well, except for you, nothing.
I mentally slap myself for thinking that.
"Um, I don't think so..." I'm not sure what to say. I do feel something weird from time to time, but it's not very specific. I scratch my neck and start to think.
Jungkook is giving me a judgmental look right now. I quickly come up with something.
"I've been seeing these visions since I came here," I say, which seems to do the trick. Jungkook looks enthusiastic about it.
"Visions? What kind of visions?"
"The first vision was of a small infant. The vision is all foggy and unclear, but it felt so real. The next time, I saw seven men kneeling down before a throne," both Jungkook and Taehyung exchange glances.
"Maybe she has the ability to control time or manipulate memory. Tell me, Y/N, were you seeing your own memory or someone else's?" Taehyung inquires. I think about it carefully.
"I can't be certain. I saw the vision from a third-person's view, but it felt otherwise," I look at both of them.
"What do you mean?" Jungkook glances at me with curiosity.
"Even though it was a third-person's view, I felt like I was inside that vision. I don't know, it's so confusing," I groan in frustration. Jungkook nibbles on his chin and thinks for a while.
"Maybe you have memory manipulation power," he says quietly. He then shifts his gaze to me.
"Okay, try to concentrate and look into my memories. Try to see through me," he instructs me. I nod reluctantly because I'm not sure how it's done.
I guess he notices that I'm baffled. He speaks to me.
"Come here, sit down," Jungkook shows me a spot. We both sit face-to-face with each other on the bare ground while Taehyung sits on a fallen trunk nearby, crossing one leg over the other. He looks excited; the enthusiasm is all over his face.
"Now, close your eyes and focus on what I'm saying."
Oh, I could focus on you all day, Jeon Jungkook.
For the second time, I mentally slap myself.
"Breathe, breathe in and out, slowly. There you go... concentrate on your breathing," I hear his soothing voice. I relax my body and try to focus on my breathing.
"Try to see beyond." I keep taking deep breaths, hoping my blurry visions will show up again.
It must have been about five minutes since I started this, and still nothing. I peek from one eye and see Jungkook staring at me. I open my eyes and glance at him.
"Well?" he asks excitedly. I shake my head.
"Nothing, I couldn't see anything." He frowns in disappointment.
"That was five minutes that I'll never get back," he mumbles. I shoot him a death glare. Before we start an argument, Taehyung intervenes.
"When I was trying to mind control her, she had this resistance that others didn't have. Maybe she has a strong mind power, like telekinesis," he suggests.
"This is going to be interesting," I can tell Jungkook is being sarcastic.
"Y/N, I want you to focus and try to move that rock over there." Taehyung stands up and offers me his hand to get up. He walks near the riverbank and shows me a rock on the other side of the river.
Jungkook gets to his feet and walks toward us.
"Extend your hand, like this," he demonstrates. His long fingers point at the stone on the other side of the river.
"Alright, got it," I do exactly as he says and try to concentrate.
Move, move, move... bitch, you better move.
"She looks like she's going to pop off," I hear Jungkook's voice.
That's it!
I glare at him in fury.
"You are aware that I have hands and can throw that rock at you, right?" My anger makes him chuckle.
"Easy, sweetheart," he says in a calming voice.
I regret crash landing into the Jeon clan. I should have crashed into the Park clan so I'd be under Jimin's supervision.
"Okay, so that's not it. Maybe we should try summoning?" Taehyung suggests.
"What's that?" I ask, trying to ignore Jungkook's stupid smile.
"Well, it's where you have the ability to control creatures and animals. If you're strong, you can even summon spirits," Jungkook answers, walking toward the forest again.
"Here, do you see it?" He gestures for me to follow him. I walk closer, and when I see what he's staring at, I spot a big stag in the forest.
"Let's see if this is the one," he whispers to me.
Summoning, huh? Why not give it a shot?
Jungkook appears from behind, getting closer to me. I can feel his breath brushing my hair. I gulp and look at him nervously. He’s looking at the big deer wandering in the forest, searching for food.
"Go on, Y/n," Jungkook slowly pushes me, urging me to move forward.
I look at him.
To my surprise, he gives me a small nod of assurance with a smile. His gaze makes me feel confident.
I reluctantly start moving forward.
Taehyung steps closer to Jungkook, watching what’s about to happen. Both of them have their eyes on me.
I close my eyes for a moment and take a deep breath.
Focus, Y/n, focus.
I slowly extend my hand and move closer to the deer. It suddenly flinches at the sound of a stick breaking when I accidentally step on one. The large deer straightens its neck and looks at me. It’s twice my size, but I try not to show fear.
I look straight into its eyes.
What in the world...
"No, Y/n! Get out of there, move!" I hear Jungkook’s startled voice.
It’s not a stag anymore. Its beetle-like eyes are turning into glowing red ones. The appearance of the stag is transforming into a hideous, terrifying form. Its flesh starts melting, revealing its ribs and bones. It lets out a horrifying, bloody screech.
It’s one of those—another evil spirit disguised as an animal.
It starts charging toward me.
"Y/n!" I hear Taehyung and Jungkook shouting.
Everything is happening in just a few seconds—there's no time for either Jungkook or Taehyung to reach me.
I can’t move; it feels like my feet are glued to the spot. My heart thumps with fear as I watch the demonic creature charging at me with the speed of the wind.
But suddenly, I feel a strong, uplifting sensation, suppressing my fear. My body awakens, stirring something deep inside me. I shut my eyes tightly. I feel calmer inside, not panicking.
When I open my eyes, I can feel the fire within them.
The creature tries to stomp toward me, but a large mystical shield covers me. I’m surprised by how it’s happening, but I know I’m the one controlling the shield. When I look at my hands, I see them forming a shield out of the golden mist that flows from my palms.
I feel confident and confused at the same time. I’ve never felt so alive.
Both Taehyung and Jungkook, who were running toward me, halt in surprise at what they’re witnessing.
I’m holding off the demonic creature on my own, and I’m doing magic—I’m doing it. I don’t know how, but somehow, the fear has provoked the power that was hidden inside me.
I use the invisible force to push the creature away and shove it to the ground. It grows weaker as I force it back.
The next thing I do stuns even me.
I’m blowing fire from my hands. Flames burst from both hands toward the creature. It burns in the fire, letting out ear-piercing screams. The golden fire from my hands wraps around it.
It’s not just fire—it’s mystical fire that burns the demon’s spirit as well as its body. The creature turns to stone before completely crumbling into ashes.
The flames burning in my palms slowly die out, gently dissolving into the air.
I finally release the breath I’ve been holding.
I breathe quickly.
What the hell was that?
Did that really happen?
Did I really do it?
Did I really do magic?
Hope you liked the chapter, more adventures are waiting. Stick with me to check them. See ya
