Chapter 9
Shawn's POV
Ok, so maybe I handled the situation all wrong. Maybe I shouldn't have taken Elizabeth from that party, but I couldn't think of another way.
Now I'm back in the Netherlands again and she's still in Scotland. At least she's texting me back now. Hateful texts, but they still count.
"Fuck off!" Was her last text.
In the other texts, she expressed her hate for me and that I need to stay the fuck away from her because I have been sending a text with what I love about her every day and I believe she likes it, no matter how annoying it may be.
She will be arriving at the airport today in the middle of the night and I'm considering picking her up. I don't know if someone is, and I just want to be there for her in every way possible.
"Is it ok if I pick you up at the airport today?" I text her.
She responds within a couple of seconds.
"Ok. But no funny business." She responds.
I smile. I have missed her so much. Maybe everything is going to work out after all?
I have two weeks left before I have to start working for Tristan again. At least he won't give me any jobs outside the Netherlands, but if Beth and I are getting back together how am I going to hide this from her?
No. I need to stop hiding shit, but what if she doesn't want me back if I still work for him?
Ok, I need to stop getting ahead of myself, I still have a lot of things to make up for. For starters, how am I going to tell Beth that I love her so she actually believes it?
For days I was worried about her, not knowing where she went. I forced Tristan to let his man take the tracker off of her phone. Yes, tracking her was working perfectly for me but I cannot take away her privacy like that.
Just when I was losing my mind I started thinking, who could possibly know where she is? I know she probably told her dad what I did, so I couldn't ask him, maybe her brother too. But then I thought of Zayneb.
She was heartbroken about Ludovic or something, rambling on about how she cheated on him and how bad she felt about it. They are still together tho, they're only taking some time apart. I hope Beth knows because I don't think she likes kissing men who are still engaged.
Anyway, Zayneb was so busy talking about herself that she just told me where Beth was. Ludovic texted her because apparently Beth and Zayneb are in a fight too? Ah, who cares?
So I drove to Scotland and Zayneb told me about the party she was supposed to go to with Ludovic.
'He probably took her to the party instead of me!' She cried.
I rolled my eyes and left as soon as she gave me the location. I couldn't deal with pregnant, crying ladies.
And when I arrived at the party I lost my mind when a man told me he saw Beth going inside the bathroom with "some handsome chap". I am always called the "handsome chap"!
And yeah... we know what happened after that.
I pull up at the front of the airport at three in the morning and walk inside to look for Beth. I see her walking up to me in her three-piece black suit with the suitcase next to her. She once told me the reason why she wore suits during a flight.
'But they're not that comfortable.' I said, holding her in my arms.
She responded that if she ever was in a plane crash, she would at least "die in style" and that made me laugh so loud. It still makes me smile.
'Hey.' I say, reaching out to her.
'I said no funny business.' She looks a whole lot angrier than I thought.
'I just wanted to greet you.'
She rolls her eyes at me.
'You can do that without touching me.' She says, walking past me.
We walk to my car in silence. And to be completely honest, she kind of scares me. One day she is having sex with me, the other day she is crying in a meadow and now she's angry again. I know I'm the one who caused it, but my intentions were in the right place... sort of.
Beth opens my trunk and throws her suitcase in it before taking a seat on the backseat. I want to ask her why she decided to sit there, but I decide against it.
Let's just say nothing and enjoy her presence, Shawn.
'I need you to come upstairs with me when we arrive.' She says without looking up from her phone.
I look in the rearview mirror for a moment, trying to read what she means with that. Is she asking me to stay over? Does she want to sleep with me again? I shake my head a little and focus on the road again.
'Yeah, sure.' I just answer.
When we arrive, I walk to the trunk, grabbing her suitcase.
'I can get it, thank you.'
Her body brushes against mine when she steps in front of me, softly touching my hand as she grabs the handle of her suitcase. For a moment she turns to look in my eyes and I could swear I saw her eyes softening.
'Sorry.' I say, my voice hitching in my throat.
'Let's just go.' She sighs.
I follow her to the elevator and the way to the door of her apartment stays completely quiet. We both say nothing.
She opens the door of her apartment when we arrive and I see Aristo running to her when she steps inside. I hear her laugh as she wraps her hands around his body. He has grown so much.
'I missed you, baby!' She says to Aristo.
I missed you too.
She waits for me to come inside, but I just keep standing outside her doorstep like a moron.
'Why are you acting so strange?! Just come inside.' She raises her voice.
I nod and walk inside, closing the door behind me. She tells me to wait there and that she'll be back in a few minutes.
I stare at my feet, not sure what to do or what to expect. Aristo paces back and forth in front of me, growling at me for a moment. I couldn't have imagined I was planning my own death when I bought him for her. He sure as hell doesn't like me.
Now I'm even afraid to move, maybe he will attack me and eat me alive, god, that would be terrible.
The sound of Beth's heels on the marble ground pull me out of my thoughts as she walks to me with a box in her hand.
'You didn't pack your stuff right.' She stops in front of me.
'You left a hoodie, a rose and some other stuff I don't want anything to do with.'
'Oh.' I say, looking at her face.
When she looks up in my eyes through her lashes I quickly look into the box, seeing the stuff she put in there.
My black hoodie, a rose in a million pieces and the necklace I gave her. How stupid am I? Of course, she wouldn't let the rose grow after I left her for two months.
'I want you to keep the necklace.' I grab it out of the box.
'What I said was the truth. You are the first person I loved... I still love. You don't have to wear it if you don't want to.'
She sighs.
'You said we had a great time... keep it as a souvenir.' I give her a small smile.
She just nods and grabs it from my hand, putting it in her pocket.
At least that worked.
'Ok, that's it. You can go.' She says.
I frown. This is why she wanted me to come up? Is she fucking kidding me?
'What?' I say with a deep frown.
'What did you expect, Mendes? That I would offer you a cup of coffee and ask if you wanted to stay over? Thank you for picking me up, but this is the only reason I agreed to it in the first place.' She points at the box in my hands.
Her hands slide into her pockets as she waits for my answer.
'Why can't you just forgive me so we can move on?'
'I already forgave you a long time ago.' She smiles with pain in her eyes.
'It's just that I'm not going to forget it and get hurt all over again.'
'Ok, yes. I get that.' I suddenly get a rush of energy and put the box next to me on the ground, determined to not leave empty-handed.
'And you are completely right not to trust me, but at least believe that I love you.' I say.
'Even if you did, why would it matter?' She responds.
I decide to do something she won't expect. I have watched a lot of romance movies during our relationship and every time the guy got the girl. It can't be that hard, right?
I get down on both my knees in front of her, deciding to - literally - beg for a second chance.
'Please, Shawn, don't be ridiculous and get off the ground.' She says with annoyance clear in her voice.
The good thing is, she called me Shawn again instead of Mendes.
'I won't stand up until you decide to give me a second chance, even if it means just as friends. I will sit here all day and all night until you change your mind.' I say with a smile on my face.
She groans and walks away. This is not how it's supposed to go. In movies they yell that they'll forgive you and then they sleep together.
Who am I kidding? Those are movies.
She opens the fridge and opens a can, sitting down at one of the stools at her kitchen island. She looks at me, putting the can down and suddenly she stands up.
She sits down across from me and wraps her arms around my shoulders, not saying anything. After a while she stands up, looking deep into my eyes.
'Just friends?' She asks.
'Just friends.' I say with a big smile on my face.
'Fine. Now, stand up and please leave. I want to go to bed.' She chuckles a little, taking her jacket off.
'I'll text you tomorrow.' I smile, tears welling up in my eyes out of happiness.
'Good night.'
'Bye, Mendes.' She says without turning around to look at me.
I did it! I fucking did it! "Just friends" is the perfect start to winning her back. Oh, and boy how I'm going to get her back. She is the love of my life. She is mine and she will always be mine...
