Chapter 27
Jason Derulo - Tattoo, Little Mix - Is Your Love Enough?
---
Shawn holds me tight against his body. I don't get why he's so tense all the time.
His hands trail up and down my back and I enjoy his touch. I sigh out of happiness as I turn my back to him. He wraps his hands around me when my back is against his chest. I put my hand over his hand when he kisses me in my neck.
'Sweet dreams.' He whispers in my ear.
'You too, babe.' I close my eyes. 'You too.' I whisper one last time, before falling asleep.
-
Five hours later I wake up, sweating. It's so hot in this car! I grab Shawn's keys and put it in the keyhole, starting the engine. I get the feeling that all the air got sucked out of this car when we were asleep.
I look at Shawn and see that his hair is also a little damp, a lot of sweat shines on his forehead, but he's still asleep.
'No one... said... fries.' He mumbles.
I look at him and smile when the cold air fills the car and it feels like I can finally breathe. I breathe in a couple of times before turning the air conditioning off. I don't want to catch a cold or make Shawn ill. That would be terrible.
I open the windows a little and the fresh night air enters the car. When I put the keys back in their place, I lay down again facing Shawn this time. I'm staring at him as if I'm a creep in the middle of the night.
'I wish I was dreaming about chips...' I whisper with a smile, touching his face.
My eyes trail over his beautiful face. He looks so peaceful when he is sleeping. I touch his soft lips with my thumb and watch him open his mouth a little.
I don't think I will be able to fall asleep again and I can't keep staring at him until he wakes up.
I need to wake him up and get him in my seat so I can continue driving to Madrid. I sit up again and touch Shawn's arm.
'Shawn.' I say when I hear him inhale.
He moans and opens one eye to look at me. When I smile at him he runs his hand over my leg.
'It's still dark, come, sleep with me.' He says.
'I can't sleep. You need to lay down in the other seat so I can continue driving to Madrid.' I tell him.
'Mhm.' He stretches his arms. 'Let me go to the toilet first. I need to change my clothes and wash my face. I am sweating like crazy.' Shawn says, rubbing his eyes.
'Yeah, I'll do the same.'
We get up and grab some stuff out of the trunk of his car before walking to the gas station.
It's very early in the morning and I only see a couple of truck drivers getting coffee.
I need a coffee...
'I'll see you in a bit.' Shawn says, walking to the toilets.
Even this early in the morning he looks amazing. I stare at him walking away from me before going to the toilets myself.
When I enter the toilets I'm surprised how clean it is. I wash my face, brush my teeth and change my clothes as quickly as I can. I put my hair in a messy bun and look at myself in the mirror.
I'm wearing black jeans and a red blouse. I don't like the red blouse at all, it looks so boring. I unbutton the bottom and tie it together, revealing my belly.
I walk outside and see Shawn walking in my direction with a bottle of water and a coffee cup. He's also wearing black jeans but with a white hoodie and a blue denim jacket.
He starts shaking his head when he looks at my outfit.
'Hold this.' He gives me a cup of coffee and a water bottle.
'Why?' I take it from his hand and he starts untying my blouse.
'No one can see this.' He says, putting his hand on my belly.
'Why not? It looks so terrible this way.' I say, looking down at my outfit when Shawn's done buttoning the blouse closed again.
'No it doesn't.' He looks at me. 'Only I get to see it.'
'Hate to disappoint you...' I start to laugh when we start walking again. 'But you're not the fi-hiir-sstt...' My voice sounds high.
'Don't remind me.' He says, grabbing my hand as we walk back to the car.
I climb into the driver's seat and start the engine after taking a sip of my coffee.
Shawn sits down in the seat next to me and opens the glove compartment. He grabs my phone and puts the charger in it. I thank him and drive out of the parking spot.
'Wait. Besides the terrible thing with Ryder... Did you do other things with guys?' Shawn asks after twenty minutes on the road again.
'Oh fuck.' I whisper, my eyes big. 'Ehm...' I hoped he wouldn't bring this up.
'Can we not talk about this?' I ask him.
'Now I really want to know.' He puts his phone in his pocket and turns to look at me.
'Uhm... ok...' I try not to look at him and inhale sharply. 'I gave a lot of blowjobs...' I whisper, thinking back at the time. 'To a lot of guys...' I bite my lip.
'You what?!' He raises his voice.
'Calm down! We weren't even together, so you have nothing to say about this.' I laugh.
'And it was not like I did it for free... they did things to me too! And to be honest here, I kind of enjoyed all of it.' I regret saying the last part.
It was nice and I can't lie about that. I had a fun time at school. I was popular for a couple of years, always making problems, never listening to the teachers. I guess that's what makes you popular somehow. And yes, I guess guys liked me just because of that.
'You just made it worse.' He looks out of the window.
'As if you haven't done things with other women before... I know you did because you told me yourself.' I tell him.
'Yes! But I didn't think you did!' He says, looking at me again.
'And why is that?' I ask, looking at him for a moment.
'You come across like a serious student, always making notes, sending the teachers emails, never talking during class.' He says.
I start to laugh.
'I wasn't like that at all! Not in high school at least. In college, yes, but not in high school.' I keep laughing.
I somehow enjoy his anger and jealousy.
He stares at me.
'You think this is funny?'
'I do, yes.' I smile at him. 'You can't just think that because I come across like that. I changed after my mum died, but I was a big deal in high school.' I tell him.
'You said you didn't have a lot of friends!' He still doesn't get it.
'You don't need to have friends to be popular!' I stop laughing. 'You saw Zayneb right? She was my best friend and all I needed was her. She and I were amazing in the eyes of other people, just because we looked like each other.' I keep my eyes on the road. 'And we kept getting good grades...'
'Well... I don't like it.' Shawn says.
'Well... you can't do anything about it now...' I look at him. 'I don't want to talk about it anymore. Let's just listen to music or something.' I turn the radio on.
'Yeah, you got that yummy, yum... That yummy, yum... That yummy, yummy.' Justin Bieber sings.
'No! I hate this song!' Shawn hits the radio, stopping the music.
'Hey...' I grab Shawn's hand. 'My past doesn't matter. I'm with you now, and you're my future.' I entwine my fingers with his. 'So stop being so fucking jealous.' I look at him.
'I can't, I'll always be jealous.' He kisses my cheek.
'I can live with that... I think.'
-
We changed seats and Shawn is the one driving when we finally arrive in Madrid. I look around the beautiful city and see a big banner on a beautiful building that looks like a castle.
"Refugees Welcome!" It says.
'I love this country already!' I say, pointing at the banner.
'Yeah... I don't get why leaders act like they own the countries. Yes, they lead it, but it's not theirs, so who are they to tell people if they're welcome or not?' Shawn smiles at me.
'Exactly.' I'm glad he thinks the same as me.
The city is full of people, cars and other things. The moment we entered the city we were stuck in traffic.
Our hotel is somewhere in the city centre, so Shawn needs to find a parking spot or garage where he can park. He keeps being nice to people and lets them pass, which leaves us behind, standing still the whole time.
'We can walk to the hotel right?' I ask him, trying not to comment on his driving - more like not driving - skills.
'Depends on where we park the car.'
A car almost hits us, but Shawn doesn't honk.
'Why didn't you honk?!' I stare at him.
'I don't like honking, it's so... aggressive.' He looks at me.
'Get out. I'm driving.' I tell him.
He is way too nice for this situation. Yes, you always need to be polite, but if he is the one driving, we will be standing in the same spot for the rest of the day.
To my surprise, he listens to me and gets out of the car. I climb over to his seat and wait for him to get in. When Shawn closes the door, someone behind us starts to honk.
I open my window, just in case I need to scream at some people.
I step on the gas pedal, driving around a car that has been standing still in front of us for ten minutes.
I drive over the tram rails and I hear Shawn holding his breath.
I made it around the car safely, but I need to watch out for Shawn's car because it's way bigger than mine and I don't want to damage it.
A few seconds later we stand still again and when the car in front of me keeps standing still while the cars in front of him have already started moving, I honk two times. The guy driving the car sticks his hand out of the car and gives me a middle finger.
'Son of a--' I honk again.
I start to get angry.
'Drive!' I scream out of the window.
'Jesus Beth, take it easy.' Shaws says.
'You chose the wrong moment to say that to me.' I give Shawn a fake smile.
I honk again and the guy finally starts to drive. A lot of screaming and honking later we finally find a garage and I park the car. It's not damaged and I got us safely through traffic.
I walk to the trunk and open it while handing Shawn the car keys.
'You almost killed us.' Shawn wraps his arms around my waist and pulls my body to his.
'I did not. I saved us from standing there all day.' I wrap my arms around his neck.
'If you weren't such a good driver we would be dead.' He brushes his lips against mine.
'And if you weren't such a polite driver, we would have died from starvation from standing there all day.' I smile when he presses his lips against mine.
'You're such a drama queen.' He whispers against my lips.
His hot tongue slides in my mouth, making it impossible for me to comment on his comment. Shawn's hand trails from my back down to my ass and he keeps his hands there until I break the kiss.
'What did you do that for?' He looks at me.
'Excuse me for not wanting to fuck you in a garage.' I roll my eyes at him.
'Oh... so you want to fuck me?' His voice is high when he smiles at me.
'Stop acting like an idiot. Let's go.' I pull my suitcase out of the trunk. Shawn opens his mouth and looks at the suitcase in my hand. 'And don't even think about telling me I'm not allowed to carry it.' I raise my finger in the air while walking away from him.
We walk to the hotel, and check-in.
I look at the amazing room. It is a big room, with beautiful carpeting and a large black four-poster bed with beautiful blue curtains everywhere.
I quickly walk to the big windows, looking over the city. The room is high and also has an amazing view, just like in Paris. I put my hands on the glass like a little child while looking down on the city.
'Do you want to go sightseeing...' I don't respond. 'Well... not sightseeing, more like finding a restaurant to eat something because I'm starving.' He jumps on the bed. 'Maybe we'll see a little bit of the city while searching for a restaurant...' He stops talking. 'Elizabeth!'
'Yeah, yeah, that's fine.' I'm still looking outside. 'I need to call my dad first.' I say, finally taking my eyes off the city.
'That's ok... I'll unpack our suitcases, we will be staying here for three nights.' Shawn says.
I nod and pull my phone out of the back pocket of my jeans. I dial my dad's number and he immediately picks up.
'I don't remember having a daughter named Elizabeth.' My dad says.
I laugh and apologise to him.
'I know I should've said goodbye. I'm really sorry.' I say again.
'Now I start to remember her.' He sighs. 'I was so worried Elizabeth McCullen! Don't ever do that again. You were gone all of a sudden.' He says, and my heart breaks from the pain in his voice.
'Sorry, dad. What can I do to make it up to you?' I ask.
'Just don't do it again and have a great time on your road trip.'
'I will, thank you dad. I will also send you pictures later today. I'm in Madrid right now.' I tell him with a smile on my face.
'Madrid is a great city! Have fun, and call me tomorrow or I will take you out of my will.' He threatens.
'Okay dad, I will call you tomorrow. No worries.' I laugh and he hangs up the phone.
I smile as I walk to my suitcase.
'What was that about?' Shawn asks.
'If I don't call my dad tomorrow he will take me out of his will.' I laugh.
'Wow. I would call him if I were you.' Shawn says, shoving his jeans in the closet.
'I will...' He shoves his hoodies in the closet too. 'What are you...' I walk to him. 'What are you doing?' I look at the messy closet.
'Unpacking the suitcases.' Shawn says continuing with what he was doing.
'Just remind me... to never let you do this, ever again.' I smile at him.
'Ok.' He smiles. 'Ready to go?'
'No! If you think I'm going outside to a restaurant in this terrible clothing, you are mistaken, Shawn Mendes!' I drag my suitcase behind me to the bathroom. 'I'll be ready in thirty minutes.' I close the door.
Exactly twenty-nine minutes and forty-four seconds later I emerge out of the bathroom, wearing a dark blue dress that's way too tight. I consider going back inside to change, but Shawn's look changes my mind.
'Wow...' He stares at me. 'You look fucking amazing...' He stands up from the bed.
'Can I borrow one of your jackets? I feel so naked.' I look at my chest.
'Yeah, sure. This way I don't have to force you to wear one.' He laughs, handing me his jacket.
'I'm jealous.' I look at him. 'You always look good.'
'True... and so do you.' He puts his hand on the small of my back and kisses me. 'Let's go.'
We walk through the city and I'm glad I decided to wear flats with this dress. It ruins the whole outfit, but I would like to be able to walk tomorrow. Shawn chooses a restaurant and we sit down at a table outside.
'Oh my god! They got paella!' I say when I look at the menu.
'Of course they do.' He looks at me. 'We're in Spain.'
I roll my eyes and continue looking at the menu. I see a couple of delicious meals, and I don't know which one I have to choose.
'What are you ordering?' I ask, looking at Shawn.
'The squid probably. You?' Shawn puts his hand on the table, reaching for mine.
I decide to order paella and Shawn and I talk about the road trip and the rest of the things we're going to do while we're staying in Madrid.
I suddenly remember Shawn saying "Oh, you'll love Madrid." And when I look in his eyes, I see the dark look I love so much.
Okay. I have this idea. If you have any questions for the characters in my book you can post them here and I'll answer them as the character you chose. Don't forget to put in the name of the character you're asking the question to.
P.S. You can't ask how the book will end, obviously...
