* Omotara Adebayo *

"Tara!!! Tara!!! Don't you think it's time for you to get up from that bed?" Mom yelled.

"Oh God!!!" I groaned as I got up from my bed lazily.

My name is Omotara Imani Adebayo. Born in Dakota. Brown skinned and sixteen. Slay queen of the school. No one dare cross my path. Not to brag, but I'm beautiful. Very beautiful. Very very beautiful. Very...

Shut up Tara!!

And, the hottest guy in school is my boyfriend. His name is Zephan Daran. He's half caste.

My mom is a no - nonsense African-American woman.

And my dad is a very strict nigerian man.

Even with their no - nonsense strict attitude, I'm still very spoiled because I'm their only child.

"Imani!!" Dad yelled. I could tell he was coming to my room because of the sound of feet stomping angrily on the floor which was getting closer each passing second.

I raced to the bathroom and locked the door.

Someone can't even sleep well on holidays.

I rolled my eyes I began to brush.
"Omotara Imani Adebayo!! I give you ten minutes to get ready and come downstairs!!" Dad said.

Yeah yeah. Whatever.

"Dad, I'm coming!" I snapped.

"Watch the tone you use to talk to me young lady!" Dad replied angrily.

Sometimes, it helps to be the only child while at other times, I wish I had a sibling. So they won't yell at me only.

Mom and Dad have probably been trying severally for another child but due to some reason, it doesn't happen.

* twenty minutes later *

I dried my afro styled hair with a silky towel, combed it and pulled it into a puff. It's not like my hair can do ponytails unless I straighten it.

I know I've spent more than twenty minutes in here but duh! It's not like they're gonna spank me.

I'm sixteen already. I've passed that stage.

Plus, they've never done that before.

I ran my hands through the clothes in my closet.

So many clothes! I don't even know what to wear.

I wore a grey crop top and matching sweatpants and headed for the kitchen.

"Hi mom. Hi dad" I greeted as I reached the kitchen.

"Really? Sweatpants are the best you can do?" Mom rolled her eyes.

"Are we going somewhere?" I asked.

"No. But at least wear something better" mom replied. I glanced at dad who was just staring at the news paper.

That's how my dad is. Reads the papers in the morning, watch the news from eight pm till he falls asleep.

Mom served us Irish potatoes and chicken along with locally made strawberry juice.

"Thanks mom" I said as I tooky breakfast and headed for my room.

They won't tell me not to go because they know I won't listen.

Time to go face time Zephan!!.

* Dazzline Farrell *

Mom used to say that it's not safe to stay with the enemy because he might just kill you.

That's why she divorced dad. According to her, dad was the enemy and he was going to kill her.

One night, Mom, Nathan, Kimani (Fayth) and I went out for dinner without Dad. There was an accident on the way so we decided not to go anymore. And when we got home, Dad was with another woman, in mom's bedroom, on mom's bed.

Mom got really hurt so she divorced him. And moved to Nigeria for solace.

Sometimes I just wonder, of all the places in the world, why would she pick Nigeria?

Her problem, not mine. Okay, somehow mine. But, whatever.

I'm not their real daughter. I was adopted from child birth. I like that they told me the truth.

Even though they have their own children now, they never stopped loving and treating me as their own.

My name is Dazzline Zari Farrell.
Born in Dakota. Brown skinned. Sixteen. African American. Relocated to Nigeria yesternight and starting a new school in two days.

My mom is a very funny woman. She's the only one you'd see dancing around on a Monday morning.

I guess that's what happens when you have lots of money and the weight of the world is not on your shoulders.

I walked downstairs and saw my brother, Nathan, already working out with mom.

Doing exercises is our early morning routine around here.

"Good morning mom" I greeted as I ruffled Nathan's hair. My baby sister was sleeping in her cradle.

"I think you and Nathan should go for shopping. You know, buy some shoes for school and stuff".

"Mom, we barely know anywhere" I replied.

"You could find a grocery store...."

"Do they have grocery stores here?" I interrupted my brother.

"No... But there are super markets and mini stores. You'll find a mall here in the estate" mom replied.

"Okay. But we can't go there just to buy shoes and stuff" I said and my brother grinned.

"So what else do you want to buy?" Mom asked.

"Pringles!!" My brother and I said at the same time.

Even though we are not siblings, we get along very well.

"Okay. You can go by three pm. And take Kimani for a walk too" mom replied. Kimani Fayth Farrell is my baby sister. The most mischievous three month old I've ever seen.

"Okay mom" I said.

I walked back to my room to take a bath.

I live a pretty boring life. I wake up in the morning. Sometimes cook, do my early morning work out, have my bath and read.

Even though mom is rich, she never raised my brother and I told be spoiled and she's never harsh on us. Unless she needs to.

Mom is a freak for decent clothing.

I have one hundred black tops and high waist jeans.

Twenty track suits. Thirty sweatshirts and sweatpants. Ten knee length dresses that are black.

And fifteen cardigans. Too much clothes for me. Not to talk of the shoes. But I like it anyway.

Black is not my favorite color but I like wearing it.

I've got no crop tops or bum shorts and I like it that way because I've gotten used to my dressing style.

I made my afro hair into a puff and wore a grey tracksuit.

* Omotara *

"Okay. Let's go" I tugged at the sleeves of Zephan's shirt.

"Relax babe. I haven't paid for the ice cream yet" Zephan replied.

"Just pay it and let's go!" I whined.

"Just calm down!" he snapped getting annoyed.

I rolled my eyes and leaned on the wall.

Just then, I saw a girl who came in looking exactly like me.

She has my face.

"Zephan look!" I said tugging at his sleeves again.

"What?" By the time he turned, the girl was no where to be seen.

Maybe I was just hallucinating.

"Never mind. I thought I saw something" I said.

"Okay. Let's go" he replied and we both left the mall.
