4. You've Got To Be Kidding Me

Rob Murat as Principle Freeman and Asia'h Epperson as Tanisha

Today was the worst day of Natalia's life.

Nothing had happened to her directly, although quite a lot of good things had happened to Maitreyi.

It was even worse because she was literally in her class for everything so she couldn't have gotten rid of her no matter how hard she tried.

Right now it was the Maths lesson just after break time, and break time had genuinely seemed to be the only time Natalia actually had a break from this girl.

They didn't sit on the same table for any of their lessons, but Maitreyi being popular without really doing anything just drove Natalia insane.

She had to work for her popularity.

So why didn't Maitreyi?

It was just her first day too.

It was probably because she was pretty. If people had only liked her because of her looks then Natalia didn't seem to mind.

Most of her friends minus Eucharia, Saniyah and Candi Rose had seemed superficial anyway.

The teacher for the class wasn't in school today as they were sick, so a substitute teacher known as Tanisha was going to be watching over the class today.

Students could have called substitute teachers by the actual names, however if they had dared called an actual teacher by their first name then they would have been in trouble.

Some people had accidentally done that before, arguing how they should have just called everyone by their first name.

They didn't though as they were old enough.

"Alright everybody listen up," Tanisha had announced right in front of the class. "I'm going to go somewhere to print something and you're going to be left inside of the classroom."

Someone had smartly asked if they were going to be left in the class all by themselves, as some teachers had genuinely done that.

Tanisha had shook her head almost immediately after that, explaining to them that she had called someone to watch over them.

She didn't say who though as she wanted it to be a surprise. She had just said that they should have behaved themselves as they had come, and if they didn't then the CCTV camera was watching them anyway.

When she had gone, the class was left alone for a while, that was until the principal called Principal Freeman had entered their room when everybody had least expected it.

Even though a majority of the class had figured out that he was going to be the one to look over the class whilst Tanisha was away, him arriving was still somehow a shock.

The room went silent instantly as he had made an announcement.

"Now I'm going to be watching y'all and listening to all of your conversations, so you better make sure you're not saying or talking about anything you shouldn't be. I've got eyes like a hawk, and I can hear you guys talk. You guys hear me?"

They had all said yes, Principle Freeman simultaneously- he was normally a nice person, unless he was having a bad day.

There was actually a fake fire drill earlier on today that someone had deliberately pressed just to get out of a test.

They had wasted a lot of time because of that, so Principle Freeman's mood had more or less gone down since then.

Everyone had kept their conversations to a minimum level, that was until Tanisha had come back as Principle Freeman had watched over them.

The real teacher wanted the seating plan to be changed as it had been almost three months since they had changed it.

That was what she wanted to print, the new plan.

A majority of the class had groaned when they had heard that there was a nee seating plan, they were normally with people they couldn't stand.

Natalia didn't care though. She just prayed that she wasn't on the same table with Maitreyi.

She was.

Sort of - she was opposite her. On the bright side, the guy she liked, Diamanté and one of his friends Kyriacos were on the same table as them.

Maitreyi's friend Saniyah was sat down right next to her, with Eucharia and Candi Rose unfortunately being a set down. Although their maths was good, it wasn't as good as these two's.

Diamanté had sat next to Natalia as Tanisha had instructed, with Kyriacos sitting by himself for now. There were supposed to be six people on a table. The sixth person wasn't here.

Natalia may have liked Diamanté although she didn't like the way he was treating Maitreyi. She had luckily composed herself when she had heard what he had said to her.

Even if she wasn't happy on the inside.

"Yo. Maitreyi right?"

She was talking to Saniyah about what they had been talking about with Eucharia and Candi Rose at break time.

Which was where everything was still as Maitreyi still didn't really know.

She had stopped when Diamanté had called her, stopping to stare at him, smiling faintly.

"Yes. That's me."

"You're pretty."

That was all he said.

He had never said that to any girl as far as Natalia was concerned. Not to her anyway.

Natalia had felt a pang of jealousy when he had said that. She had been trying to hard to get his attention and here Maitreyi was not even trying?

She didn't put her on a pedestal or anything, she wasn't even trying to to be honest however it just didn't seem fair that everything had come to her so easily.

When Maitreyi had heard that, she did turn red a little bit, especially after what Saniyah had said to her afterwards.

"Thank you! I keep telling her that but she doesn't listen."

"You're pretty too," Kyriacos had added. "Both of you are. And were glad to have you on our table. Apparently you two are really smart."

Natalia didn't say anything again. This was the problem with being on a table where everyone was attractive minus her.

She didn't think she was unattractive though. Just not as pretty as Maitreyi or Saniyah it had seemed.

The class had mainly consisted of Diamanté somewhat flirting with Maitreyi and Kyriacos somewhat flirting with Saniyah.

Yet despite everything all four of them had still done more work than Natalia had ever done in the class.

She didn't speak to anyone on her table throughout the whole lesson. Not just that but apparently now Maitreyi was even more popular than before.

People had kept on flocking to her, more so when they had heard that Diamanté had complimented her. Natalia wasn't the only person that had liked Diamanté romantically.

Diamanté, Kyriacos and their other friend Stevonté weren't even popular nor were they trying to be.

They had just minded their own business, which a lot of girls had seemed to be attracted to for some interesting reason.

By almost the end of the day, Natalia had heard that Diamanté had asked Maitreyi if she could have tutored him this weekend.

When Natalia had heard that, she was fuming.

She had to put an end to this, and she did, at lunchtime.

Kyriacos, Diamanté and Stevonté were sitting down on a bench outside, talking about everything that had happened when and after Diamanté had asked Maitreyi to tutor him.

"Dang bro, smooth move. I can't believe you got Maitreyi to tutor you!" Stevonté commented.

"Why wouldn't I? She got really good grades at her former school. So I feel like she'd really help me with this upcoming test I have."

Kyriacos didn't say anything.

Whilst he was in support of the whole idea, he had just prayed that Diamanté didn't want Maitreyi to tutor him this weekend for all the wrong reasons entirely.

When Diamanté had heard that, he didn't say anything, wanting to know what was up with him and why he'd say that.

"I mean, you did say that she's pretty in Maths Class."

"She is."

"I just hope you ain't using her for her looks," he had continued. "Or you want to take advantage of her."

Diamanté wasn't even the type of person that had taken advantage of people like that. Regardless though, he did understand where Kyriacos was coming from.

But no. He didn't ask Maitreyi to be his tutor just because he had found her attractive. That wasn't even part of the reason at all.

He just genuinely wanted better grades and he had a feeling that Maitreyi would have most likely given it to him.

The three of them were talking about this whole thing for quite some time, that was until Natalia had come, interrupting their conversation completely.

Neither of Maitreyi's friends had known that Natalia was trying to destroy her reputation or they Maitreyi even knew her. They didn't see her waving at her earlier on.

As the three boys were laughing about something, definitely not the girls though, Natalia had felt as though it was her 'cue' to go over to them.

"Wish me luck, Syeda."

"Good luck, babe."

Syeda didn't usually agree with everything the girl did, although even she was pretty sick and tired now of hearing Maitreyi's name all the time.

Laughing with them as if she was a part of the conversation herself, Natalia had invited herself into the conversation.

As soon as the boys had seen her, they had all given her a dirty look. They even wanted to leave until Natalia had told them not to do so as what she wanted to say was really important.

"There's nothing you can say to us that will make us change the way we see you."

"Oh hush Stevonté, I only really need to speak to Diamanté anyway," she had hissed. "Diamanté can I speak to you alone please?"

He had said a straight up no without even thinking about it. Maitreyi's life wasn't the only person's life that Natalia had tried to ruin before.

When things didn't go her way, she would have normally gotten revenge.

"I'm not leaving here until we talk."

"Okay then. I don't care. You're going to be here forever for all I care." He had laughed with his friends, but Natalia was being serious.

She had folded her arms, calling his name, but he had rolled his eyes, grabbed his things and he had left with his boys.

He was about to leave anyway, that was until Kyriacos had told him to actually talk to her.

Are you crazy? I'm not speaking to that she devil even if she was the last person on earth.

Just get it over with, bro.

What is wrong with you?

He had looked back, with Natalia still frowning at him, even if she was smiling on the inside.

Groaning and cursing to himself, he had gone to her, telling his friends that he would have caught up with them later.
