3. Speak Of The Devil, There She Is

The weekend had soon gone and it was back to school again, with Natalia not hearing from or about Maitreyi for an entire week.

Not that this was a bad thing. This was a great thing, she had hated that girl, but she didn't even know why she did.

She just did.

Things had really turned around though when she had found out that she was going to be attending her school, not just now.

Today yes, but she was yet to find this out.

It was the beginning of school, on a Monday, with Natalia's closest friends Syeda, Cynthia and Zafira sitting down on a bench.

They were waiting for Natalia because she had apparently wanted to tell them something, but she was really taking her time.

"For someone that has something to tell us, Natalia is really taking a long time to come here," Syeda had sighed, constantly checking the time on her phone. "Dang, where is that girl already? School starts in approximately ten minutes."

Cynthia and Zafira had wondered the same thing, and soon after, Natalia had stormed on the benches.

She had looked like she had just escaped prison for some reason, shaking the rain off of her umbrella because it was starting to rain a bit.

They were currently in a gazebo, with Cynthia wanting to know what had taken her so long.

With Zafira adding what she wanted to talk to them about in the first place.

"I swear, my mum does my head in sometimes!" Natalia had complained, it had seemed as though that was the only thing she was good at doing lately. "And that's what I wanted to talk to you about. Can I please stay at one of y'all's houses for a bit?"

It wasn't that Natalia had never really gotten along with Carolina, it was just the fact that as of lately, they seemed to be arguing over everything.

When her friends had heard that, they had looked at one another as if Natalia had just asked one of them if they could have shoplifted with her or something.

They had loved her and everything, although letting her stay in their house for a while was another situation.

"What's wrong with your house?"

"My mum and I haven't exactly been getting along," Natalia had sighed after she had heard Zafira's question. "She misses dad and I miss my brother."

They had gone somewhere together and they were going to come back soon: it was take your son to work day a few days ago.

They must have gone on a trip or something because they hadn't come back since.

"Maybe you're doing things to upset her," Cynthia had commented, but Natalia had shook her head.

"What do y'all take me for?" She had frowned. "I can misbehave but not that much, jeez. Anyway, y'all think about it and let me know at the end of the day what your decision is."

So they couldn't even have said no?

That wasn't very fair.

Then again, Natalia had never really handled the word no well. She was pretty stuck up, which was something she seriously needed to work on.

Not saying anything to her as it was too early to argue, plus Natalia was in a bad mood anyway, they had decided to change the subject.

"I know it was a long time ago, sort of, but how did things go with Maitreyi?" Syeda wanted to know. "Was she that bad?"

Just heading that girl's name had made her groan, burying her face in the table.

Greta, Syeda just had to ruin everything, didn't she? Natalia had had a Maitreyi free week - nobody had talked about her and Natalia hadn't seen her all week.

It was fun while it had lasted she had guessed.

She had even remembered part of what she had said to her when they she first met.

"Hi! I'm Maitreyi. Please pronounce it right. A lot of people don't. It's my-tray-yee." She had then stretched out her hand for Natalia to shake it.

"My mum and my sister Avantika told me a lot about you. It's so nice to meet you! I've always wanted to meet you since they told me about you earlier on today!"

Natalia had mocked that the last time she had remembered that, and she had done so again, in her head.

"She is awful, and so was the ceremony for her dead brother. I swear if I ever see that girl again, I honestly don't know what I'd do."

"She's probably not that bad, you sound a little jealous of her," Zafira had deadpanned. "What does she look like though? You said you had her on Instagram."

Yes, because Maitreyi had given her her Instagram, even though she didn't ask for it.

Natalia wasn't rude enough to say no to her, plus she was at her house for her brother's ceremony anyway... so it wasn't like she had much of a choice either way.

Maitreyi had even thought that the two of them were friends, not realising that she was clearly mistaken.

Natalia was going to make her life a happy adversity as she had liked to call it, assuming she had seen her again.

The future was filled with many possibilities.

"Why does it matter what she looks like?" Natalia had scowled at Zafira, also secretly shooting daggers at her for her jealousy comment. "I'm never going to see her again so it doesn't matter."

They were just curious apparently, and now the rest of her friends were curious as well.

Rolling her eyes, Natalia had gone on her Instagram, typing her name on there.

She had unfollowed her yesterday, she would have done so before but she didn't want Maitreyi suspecting anything.

Even though she didn't necessarily like the girl, Natalia had kind of stalked her on Instagram regardless.

When she had loaded her page up online, she had shown it to her friends, who were amazed that she didn't like someone like that.

Realistically speaking, only Zafira had thought that. Syeda and Cynthia had thought that she was pretty stuck up just looking at her.

"That's what I'm saying and-"

Natalia was interrupted when Cynthia had said no... nobody had known why she had said that, until she had told all of them to turn around.

Maitreyi was there.

She was talking to Eucharia, Saniyah and Candi Rose. They were these three girls that all four of them had known as they had a few classes together but they weren't friends with.

What was Maitreyi doing in Westminster private school?

This had to be some sort of joke.

"What is she doing here?!"

"I was just thinking the same thing girl," Cynthia had agreed, with Syeda saying something similar. "Speak of the devil. Here she is."

Just as Natalia was about to release her frustration on Maitreyi being there did the bell go.

She didn't know what they were talking about but they had seemed pretty immersed into their conversation.

Eucharia: You've never been to a private school before? But your grades are so high, girl!

Maitreyi: I know but I've always been to a normal school. My mum couldn't really have afforded a private school. I hope it's not as daunting as it seems.

Saniyah: Girl, no. It is when you're by yourself that things can get pretty daunting, but don't worry. You've got us.

Maitreyi had first met Eucharia at the bus stop today, not knowing that she had even lived close to her.

Her, her mother and her sister had come to the school earlier for in person enrolment so that they could have gotten a sense of the place, and also so they Khadijah wouldn't have had to drop her off on her first day of school.

Long story short, Maitreyi and Eucharia had talked a lot about many things, realising that they had a lot of things in common.

Eucharia had introduced Maitreyi to Saniyah and Candi Rose just now, who were just as kind as her. They had a lot in common too.

A lot of people had been checking them out, to be fair all four of them were really pretty. They didn't let boys get to them though.

They had a sisters before misters mentality.

Candi Rose: And us three are going to make sure that you have the best day today!

Maitreyi had received her timetable for the day today by email yesterday, comparing it with her friends.

They weren't in any classes at the same time today, but Maitreyi was with one of them at least for each lesson today.

When the bell had gone off for school to begin, they had all gone inside, and if Natalia had known how nervous Maitreyi was about this whole thing, then perhaps she would have been nicer to her but she wasn't.

She had put Maitreyi on a really high pedestal even if she had screwed up right in front of her.

When Maitreyi had seen her, she had said hi to her, only for Natalia to ignore her.

Her friends didn't see her saying hi to her, otherwise they would have warned her about Natalia as she wasn't all that she seemed.

And they couldn't have been more correct.
