Summary:

Odessa Seabrooke and Finnick Odair were once thick as thieves. From sneaking away to read poetry in the abandoned library to making seashell bracelets by the sea—the two were inseparable. But that all changed the moment Finnick was sent to the capital as District 4's male tribute in the 65th Hunger Games. Five years after Finnick's victory in the 65th Hunger Games, Odessa and Finnick reunite under the darkest circumstances—Odessa inevitable reaping. Odessa and her brother, Phineas, were reaped as the male and female tributes from District 4 in the 70th Hunger Games—a brutal, unforgettable year for both. Raised together by the sea, they had always been close. When they were reaped, Finnick Odair was assigned as their mentor.

But despite Finnick's guidance, the Games proved too much. Phineas, fought to protect her, sacrificing himself in the process. Odessa, devastated, won the Games—becoming a victor, but losing the one person she cared about more than anyone. Phineas's death in the arena shattered Odessa's mind, leaving her with the weight of survivor's guilt and the trauma of seeing her brother die in her arms.

Now, five years later, Odessa is forced to return to the games, reaped once again to compete in the 75th Hunger Games. But this time, she is no longer the girl who once walked alongside Finnick as a child. The Games have changed her. Her grief has consumed her, and the trauma of losing Phineas is still raw.

As Odessa prepares for the Games, she finds herself reconnecting with Finnick, a bond that was never truly severed but had been buried beneath the weight of years and pain. A bond filled with old memories, but also with a shared understanding of what it means to be broken by the Capitol.  As they train, their closeness deepens, but it also brings up the buried emotions of the past—her unspoken love for Finnick, the trauma of losing Phineas, and the guilt she feels for having survived.

Odessa must confront the darkness of her past—the death of Phineas, her own psychological fragility, and the lingering question of whether she can ever truly heal in a broken world.

Through it all, Finnick remains her anchor. Together, they begin to see that their survival might be about more than just escaping the Games; it's about resisting the Capitol's control and finding a way to fight back against the system that has torn.

As the tides of rebellion rise, Odessa must learn to face her demons—both the Capitol's and her own—and find a way to move forward, with Finnick by her side, in a world that has taken so much but may finally offer a chance for something more.
