Perfect

"Good as new" Mavis spoke out loud as she finished wiping the blood and dirt off El's face, in the Wheeler bathroom. El turned to look in the mirror as she touched her bald head.

"I told you that you didn't need it, I meant that," Mavis told her again as El's eyes found hers once again.

"Mav" she stated as Mavis's abnormally large eyes for bigger.

"Yeah?" she asked with a hopeful tone of voice.

"Never mind," El said as she looked down, not catching Mavis's face fall.

"Still pretty?" El asked as she looked in the mirror again, making Mavis look her way with a quick nod.

"Yeah! Really pretty, gorgeous even" Mavis went on in a ramble as El gave her an odd look.

"Gorgeous?" she questioned her as Mavis nodded.

"Yeah, gorgeous is another word for pretty but better," Mavis told her with a shrug as El nodded.

"What's better than gorgeous?" El asked her now as Mavis sighed and thought for a moment.

"I guess perfect, perfect is when you can't find anything wrong at all" Mavis said as El stared at her before using her pointer finger to push the tip of Mavis's nose a little.

"Perfect" she mumbled as Mavis blushed a deep shade of red and cleared her throat before looking up at the barley taller girl.

"I umm... I'm really glad you're back home" Mavis said as El reached in her pocket and pulled out the small compass.

"Back to you," she said as Mavis grinned with a nod before the door swung open.

"Guys! It's Lucas! I think he's in trouble!" Dustin yelled as the two girls shared a look before running after him through the door frame.

"Remember how he said he was looking for the gate?" Dustin asked as he neared the walkie-talkie.

"Yeah?" Mike asked confused.

"What if he found it?" Dustin asked while Lucas's scratchy yells came through the speaker.

"What's he saying?" Mike asked with a confused look.

"Oh my gosh, what if he's hurt?" Mavis began to panic as El quickly latched onto her hand for support.

"Lucas if you can hear us slow down, we can't understand you" Mike tried to stay calm as he talked through the walkie in hopes of finding Lucas. But the only thing that came through was odd shouts and static again.

"Mad hen? Does that mean anything to you? Like a code name?" Dustin questioned as he heard it come through the speakers.

"Bad men" Mavis whispered as she now understood her best friend, looking up to Mike his eyes widened.

"Bad men! Stay here!" he demanded before running up the stairs with Dustin behind them.

"Bad men? For me?" El asked as she began to look scared as Mavis turned her body to face her.

"Nothing is gonna happens, understand? Nothing. Grab your stuff" Mavis said as she helped El put the boxes of Eggos into a backpack and then helped her put the blue jacket onto her arms.

"They're here," Mike said as the two ran back down the stairs.

"Cmon then!" Mavis yelled at him as the four ran out of the door and jumped on the bikes. When they reached the end of the street, they saw a whole bunch of men looking their way with a white-haired man in between them.

"Go go go" Dustin yelled as the four took off down the streets on their bikes. El gripped Mavis's waist tightly as they went as fast as they could.

"Met Lucas at Elm and Cherry!" Dustin yelled as Mavis nodded and peddled her legs faster with Mike not too far behind her.

"Holy shit!" Mavis yelled as she saw three large Hawkin Lab vans speeding down the street their way.

"This way, cmon!" Mike yelled as they rode through a neighbors yard and through the part, before coming out of a street where Lucas just peddled up to them.

"Where are they?" Lucas asked out of breath while everyone scanned him to make sure he was okay.

"I think we lost them," Dustin said just as the vans came down the road.

"Or not" Mavis explained with panicked eyes as she listened to Mike's demand of going down the street again. One suddenly came up in front of them as the group of friends all screamed, all thinking this was their last moment. And then something strange happened.

The van flipped into the air and over the group of friends.

They all gave shocked looks, too amazed to speak while peddling down the road. Eleven rested her head on Mavis's shoulder, clearly drained.

"You okay? I got you" Mavis said as she helped El off the bike once they stopped in the middle of the junkyard. The bald girl put all her body weight, which wasn't enough at all, onto Mavis who held her up without any complaining.

"Holy shit! Did you see what she did to that van?" Dustin asked with wide eyes and panting from the ride over.

"No Dustin, we missed it," Mike said sarcastically toward the boy with curls while Mavis helped El sit down on one of the spare tires lying around.

"I mean that was- that was-" Dustin began to stutter over his words before Lucas cut him off.

"Awesome" he confirmed, getting looks of shock and disbelief from his friends.

"It was awesome" The boy repeated as he kneeled next to El, who was blinking in shock.

"Everything I said about you being a traitor and stuff, I was wrong. I'm sorry" Lucas said as he gave her a soft look. Mavis couldn't help but smile as she watched the two.

"Friends- friends don't lie. I'm sorry too" El said to him as Lucas smiled back at her before Mike jumped in.

"Me too," the pale boy said as he held his hand out to Lucas, who rose to his feet. Mavis hurried to sit next to El and use the small napkin she stored in her pocket to wipe the blood from her nose. Lucas grabbed a hold of Mikes's hand and shook it.

They were nearly hole again, now they only needed Will.

"This is Randolf road right here, the fence starts here, and goes all the way around. And this is the lab right here, the gates gotta be in there somewhere" Lucas said to the group as he drew out a map in the dirt.

"How did we not think of that sooner?" Mavis spoke out loud as she looked down at the drawn map.

"Well, who owns Hawkins lab?" Dustin questioned.

"Science department of energy," Lucas said back to him as Mavis looked to El, who looked back at her.

"Department of energy? What do you think that means?" Dustin spoke up again while looking toward his friends.

"Have you been there? To the lab?" Mavis asked as she looked to El, who nodded her head.

"Do you know what it means?" Dustin asked the girl now, who went to speak before Mike cut her off.

"It means government, military" Mike listed off as Dustin gave a confused look.

"Then why's it say energy?" he pointed out as Mike shook his head.

"Just trust me, alright? It's military, my Dads told me before" Mike nodded before Lucas piped in next to him.

"Mikes right, there are soldiers out front," Lucas said as he thought back to when he saw it.

"So it's us against the military" Dustin scoffed as Mavis raised an eyebrow.

"I can take them" she stated with her best-determined face.

"No doubt about it," Lucas said with a smile her way, making Mavis smile back.

"I'm sure you could Mav, but they have weapons to fight the Russians and stuff," Mike said as all their eyes widened.

"Weapons?" Mavis asked with a blink of her eyes.

"Oh man this is really bad," Dustin said as he tugged on his curls.

"The place is like a fortress," Lucas said while meeting each of their eyes.

"What do we do?" Dustin asked again as he looked at Mike.

"I don't know, but we can't go home. We're fugitives now" Mike said as everyone looked down.

"Did you fall on the way over here?" Lucas asked as he looked to Mavis with frowned eyebrows.

"What?" she asked him confused while he pointed to the bruise on her cheek, making her eyes widen.

"Oh... oh yeah so fell down the stairs the other night" she quickly used the excuse before helicopter noises caught their attention.

"Guys," Dustin said as they all looked in the sky to see a large grey chopped flying close to them.

"Go go go" Mike yelled as they all pushed the bikes under one of the abandoned school busses before jumping inside and hiding in the back.

El pulled Mavis's head into her shoulder as they hid behind one of the seats. The helicopter noise got louder and louder above them before its sound went away, indicating it had flown off.
