Maybe you just need a distraction
"Excuse me-" Max began to the man at the pool front desk.
"No one in the water until thirty minutes after the last strike, and don't try and argue with me. Wanna get electrocuted? Go climb a try." the man said, not bothering to look up from his magazine.
"We're not here to swim, climb trees, and we're certainly not here for your attitude." Mavis snapped as El nodded. Carrie gave the two a look.
"We found this." El said as she held up the fanny pack as the man looked up at it.
"Does that belong to anybody here?" Carrie asked while looking over the counter at him.
"Oh yeah, that's Heathers. I'll get it back to her." he said to them, zero emotion in his face.
"We could give it back to her." El offered, needing a excuse to see if the older teen was okay.
"You could, except she's not here. Bailed on me today." he explained while picking the magazine back up again.
"What? You girls want a reward or something?" he asked them now, seeing as the four were still there.
"Depends, what are you offering?" Mavis asked with a eyebrow raise, Max smacked her arm quickly with a eye roll.
"Nope, we're just good samaritans." Max said with a fake smile toward him as the girl behind the desk smiled at the four. El pulled Mavis toward the small pin bored, looking at the picture of the small curly haired girl.
"Heather." Carrie said in confirmation as El nodded her head.
"Do you think you could find her?" Max asked as Mavis scoffed with a eye roll.
"What's your problem now?" Max asked her as the two turned to each other.
"You! All of this! She can't keep on just using her abilities like that, Max. What if she gets stuck there, what if she can't come out?" Mavis asked as Max sighed, grabbing her arm to pull her to the side as Carrie led El somewhere else.
"I know you're worried, but do you honestly think El will push herself that hard? She'd know if it was dangerous, she's done it so many times now. You need to just take a breath and realize that she's trying to save people here." Max said as if it were that simple, Mavis looked to the side as she adjusted the jacket on her shoulders.
"That's easy for you to say. You're not the one that lost her for a year. Do you know what that felt like? Horrible, terrible, you name it I felt it. If she gets stuck, there's no pulling her out of that, nothing and then she's gone forever." Mavis explained as Max put a hand on her arm.
"You need to trust this, to trust her. She knows what she's doing, you know that better then anyone." Max explained as Mavis sighed before walking to were the other two headed off, the redhead following after her.
"Here, these should do it." Mavis explained as she finished wrapping the goggles enough for El to be completely blind when she put them on.
"Thanks." El said to her with a small smile as Carrie and Max turned on all the showers.
"Just be carful in there." Mavis said as El gave her a eyebrow raise.
"You say that every time, i'll be fine." the brunette said as she kissed Mavis's nose before pulling the goggles on as the two others joined.
"What do you see?" Max asked El with frowned eyebrows.
"A door, a red door." El said in confirmation as Mavis stared intensely at her while Max and Carrie shared a look. She suddenly yanked the goggles off with heavy breathing and panics as Mavis grabbed her arms.
"El! El what happened? Just breath." Mavis said while holding onto her, El staring into her eyes as she tried to calm down.
"You guys do realize this is breaking and entering, right?" Carrie asked as El used her powers to open the door to Heathers house.
"Yeah, sure do." Mavis said as if it was casual, getting a crazy look from her short haired friend but was ignored. Laughter from the kitchen made them all jump, nearing slowly as their red, blue, yellow, and pink rain coats dripped on the carpet. Rounding the corner, they saw Billy laughing with two middle aged parents, bring smiles on their faces.
"Max." Billy said as he saw his step sister looking at him odd.
"We didn't mean to barge it, we tried to knock but maybe you didn't hear us over the storm." Max explained as Mavis waved.
"I'll be darn, Mavis Hilton. How's your mother?" Heathers dad asked as Mavis coughed akwardly.
"Oh I wouldn't know, still a piece of shit even behind bars I assume." Mavis said as Carrie elbowed her after the mans eyes widened.
"I'm sorry but who is this dripping all over my living room right now?" the woman now asked, looking between the girls as her eyes widened at Mavis's words.
"Oh, i'm sorry. Janet, Tom, this is my sister Maxine and her potty mouth friend Mavis." Billy explained as Mavis gave him a glare, El pushing the pink haired girl behind her a bit.
"What on earth are you doing here? Is something wrong?" Billy asked, a look of sincere as he looked down at his redhead sister.
"We just wanted to make sure everything is okay." Max said while looking at him funny.
"Okay? Why wouldn't it be okay?" Billy asked her with fake sorrow before El spoke up.
"Where is she?" the Hopper girl asked with a glare, keeping Mavis behind her with a hand.
"I'm sorry, where is who?" Billy asked before a high pitch voice came into hearing.
"Well they're a little burnt, i'm sorry." Heather explained as the four girls eyes widened.
"Heather! This is my sister Maxine, her friends Carrie and Mavis- i'm sorry, I did not catch your name." he said now, looking over at El with a confused look.
"El." she said with a stare as he faked a smile.
"El, now what was it you were saying? You were looking for someone?" Billy asked as El turned to Heather before Mavis grabbed her arm and pulled her back to stand next to her.
"We saw your manager, at the pool! He said you guys didn't come into work today so we got worried." Max quickly cut El's stutters off, Mavis giving her girlfriend a small look to let her know not to say anything.
"Heather wasn't feeling so hot today so we thought we'd take the day off to nurse her back to health. But you're feeling just fine now, aren't you Heather?" Billy asked while turning back to the pretty teen who smiled.
"I'm feeling so much better, do you girls want a cookie? They're fresh out of the oven." Heather said while holding the trey out.
"No we're-" Max began, being cut off quickly.
"Chocolate chip, my favorite. Thanks pretty young woman." Mavis said to her with a smile, taking a hand full of the cookies and sending a wink her way before following her friends out of the house.
Getting back to Max's house the girl we're provided warm clothes. Mavis was prying the wet clothes from her body in the bathroom, El brushing her teeth only a foot away.
"Ugh I hate this." Mavis explained while yanking the shirt off and throwing it to the ground.
"Hate what?" El asked while tossing the large tee shirt to her.
"How much clothes cling to me when they get rained on, seriously who invented that?" Mav asked with a huff as she put the wet clothes into the hamper in the corner.
"I don't know." El explained with a smile before she looked into the mirror, all the memories from today replaying in her head.
"Hey, stop thinking about it. It's gonna hurt your pretty little head." Mavis explained as she pushed some of El's hair out of her face as she put the toothbrush down.
"Just, doesn't make since. I saw her." El explained as Mavis nodded and wrapped her arms around her shoulders.
"I know, and it really doesn't make since. But right now we can't worry about it, maybe you just need a distracted." Mavis smirked as she put her hands on the sides of El's face and pressed her lips to hers.
El's hands went to Mavis waist, the shorter girl leaning on the door slightly. Their lips stayed connected, Mavis twisted the ends of El's tangled, shoulder link hair. The taller girl giggled into the kiss, making Mavis grin as well before the two were kissing again.
"El! You've gotta come see this!" Carries voice heard on the other side of the door, making the two sigh and pull apart before joining the two in Max's room.
