Penthurst, Curley County
Running through the hospital, Mavis tried to tune out the doctors' words and Joyce's cries. She tried to say reassuring words down at Carrie much like Mike was doing for Will, having no luck considering the siblings were still yelling in pain.
"Easy with them!" Mavis yelled at the doctors as they yanked Carrie and Will off the two gurneys and began checking their vitals.
"Carrie, Will. Where does it hurt?" the nurse asked as Mavis looked at Will, he began to answer.
"He says it burns, cheek for burns." the doctor said as Mavis then turned to Carrie.
"Carrie!" she yelled in horror as she noticed the girl limb.
"What's wrong with her? Is she breathing?" Joyce asked as she tried to look between her two kids. The doctors began to wheel Carrie away, telling Joyce she couldn't come.
"Sweetie you have to stay back." the nurse said to Mavis as she stopped her from running after them.
"No! No get away from me!" she yelled while trying to flail out of a couple of doctors' holds as they kept her from running after the girl who was being wheeled away.
"Mavis! Mav!" Mike yelled while taking her from the doctors and holding her close as Mike was also crying much like everyone was doing, watching as the doctors put a needle into Will's arm to put him to sleep.
"I hope she's okay," Mike commented as the two sat in front of Will's bed, watching as he slept. Mavis was leaning back into him, his jumper draped over the two of them as they smooshed together to keep the warmth in the cold room.
"It's been a while, why haven't we gotten any news? She didn't look good Mike." Mavis commented a she nodded, holding herself together for the sake of everyone in the room. On cue, Joyce walked into the room, looking to Will who was asleep, then at the duo who, quickly shot up from their position.
"Is she okay?" Mavis asked in a panic as Joyce nodded and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Her heart stopped for a little bit, they got it working again. She's hooked up to an IV right now, and is resting. The important part is that she's okay." Joyce said with a weak voice, due to all her crying she's done the past hour.
"Can we see her?" Mike asked quickly as Joyce shook her head.
"Soon, I promise. You two will be the first to know." the brunette woman informed them with soft smiles as they nodded and sat back down.
"I'm so tired," Mike spoke softly as Mavis looked up at the clock seeing as it was three in the morning now.
"Cmon, Wheeler. I got you." Mavis said as she held her arms out, making him curl up next to her and rest his head in the crook of her neck. Mav pressed a kiss to the crown of his head, adjusting his jacket over his shoulders and closing her eyes as well.
As the sun shined through the room a few hours later, the pink in Mavis's hair shined brighter than anything else. Joyce and Bob were seen having what looked to be a serious conversation in the corner as Will's familiar voice spoke up.
"Mom?" he asked, making the pair of friends wake up quickly. They knocked heads slightly and leaned over to look at Will.
"Hey, hey Will how are you feeling?" Mavis asked as Bob called for the doctor.
"I'm okay." he nodded her way as Mavis smiled and realized Carrie was not too far away from him.
"When'd she get in here?" Mavis asked with a smile while rushing the to the girl and going to her side, watching as her eyes fluttered open.
"Mav." she smiled slightly, her voice scratchy and softer as Mavis smiled and pushed some hair off her forehead while looking down at her.
"How do you feel?" Mike asked as he squeezed her hand as she smiled.
"Better," she mumbled as the three looked back over to Will, who was only a few feet away, in the next bed.
"Hey." Bob smiled at the boy as Will gave a confused look.
"Who is that?" he asked making them all give a scared look at his words.
"It's me, big guy, it's Bob. You remember me, pretty lady?" Bob asked as he looked to Carrie, getting a nod in response, making him grin.
"Are you a doctor?" Will asked him, Mike looked to Mavis as she gave a frightened look and then looked back at the smaller boy again.
"No, it's just me, just me. It's just Bob." Bob said sadly but with as much of a forced enthusiasm look down at him, Joyce looked over her shoulder at her boyfriend with a worried look before the doctor entered.
"Do you know your name?"
"Will."
"Your full name?"
"William Byers."
"Do you know who I am?"
"A doctor."
"Have we met before?"
"I don't remember."
"How bout this guy here?"
"That's my friend... Mike."
"What about this young lady?"
"My sister, Carrie Byers."
"And her? With the pink hair?"
"That's Mav, she's my friend too."
"What about me kid, you remember me?" Hopped asked as Will looked his way and shook his head slightly, making Mavis frown.
"They told me you helped save me last night, you remember that?" Hopper asked again as Will shook his head once more, making the taller man frown but nod understandingly.
"Do you remember anything about last night? About what happened?" The doctor asked as Will turned to him with a small glare.
"I remember... they hurt me," he said as Joyce looked to Mavis, who held her hand.
"You mean the doctors?" he asked him again as Will shook his head slower than usual, sending a chill down Mavis's spine.
"No, the soldiers"
"The soldiers hurt you?"
"They shouldn't have done that, it upset him."
"They upset him? Is that him?" The doctor asked as he handed Will a small photo of his drawing of the Mindflayer, Will nodded making the doctor nod with a blink.
"Alright I'm gonna try something, it will seem a little odd at first but trust me. It's gonna help us understand more, is that okay?" he asked with a kind smile over to Will.
"Okay." the boy nodded, his tone a bit different.
"Does he seem a little different to you?" Mavis whispered to Carrie, who turned to look at her quickly.
"I thought I was the only one noticing it," she said as they two shared a look before watching as the nurses rolled, what seemed to be a clear box, of the vine slug that they took an example of after they burnt the place last night. Carries breath hitched as she saw it, backing up slightly as Mike put an arm around her quickly and rubbed her shoulders softly.
"Let me know if you feel anything, okay?" the doctor asked Will who nodded before the nurse held up a blow torch and began moving it toward the vine.
"Feel anything?" The doctor asked as he looked down at Will, a small whimper next to her caught Mavis's attention as she turned and saw Carrie holding a slightly pained face.
"A small stink." The smallest Byers said with an uncomfortable look.
"A sting? Where?" the doctor asked him.
"My chest," Will answered while gripping himself.
"Stop!" Carrie shouted as she fell to the floor in pain and gripped her chest as they got the blow torch closer, Will yelling how it hurt just a few feet away.
"That's enough!" Joyce said loudly over her two kids' yells, Mavis looked up from where she and Mike squatted on the floor with Carrie.
"She said that's enough!" Mavis shouted at the doctor as she sprung up and pushed the blow torch out of his hands, yelping as the fire got a part of her arm.
"Are you okay kid?" Hopper asked while walking over to her as Joyce and Mike got Carrie back in her hospital bed next to Will.
"I'm fine, can you hand me those?" she asked while he nodded and handed her the small gauzes from behind him, watching as he saw how oddly well she could tend to wounds.
"You'll be back, won't you?" Will asked Mavis a few minutes later as she pulled her leather jacket on her arms.
"Of course I will be, just gonna go grab all of us a change of clothes and maybe some card games." Mavis smiled down at him, kissing his forehead before doing the same to Carrie and Mike.
"Be careful," Mike said as he slowly began to help her out the hospital window.
"Stupid soldiers, 'no sweetie you can't use the door' ." she mocked them while grabbing a hold of the latter connected to the side of the tall building.
"Looks like you've done this before." Mike mocked as he watched her crawl down. Mavis laughed as she looked up at him with a shrug.
"You'll never know," she said while sending him a wink and climbing the rest of the way down.
After stopped at the Byers, she grabbed what she could and shoved it into a bag she found from the hall closet. Not wanting to walk all the way across town again, she resulted in grabbed Mike a pair of his clothes he'd left at her house as she neared. The unfamiliar dark van in the driveway made her frown her eyes as she unlocked her front door. She first let her eyes fall to the couch her Mother usually laid, finding it empty.
"Mom? Are you home?" Mavis said loud enough to hear throughout the larger home, she jumped she heard the small drop of a glass in the kitchen.
"You scared me," Mavis said as she looked to her Mom, giving an odd look at how she was dressed nicely and looked oddly clean.
"Is their guest? I could come back." she offered kindly as Sarah shook her head and walked forward.
"I'm sorry Mavis, but I'm afraid you'll never be coming back." the woman said as she neared her daughter.
"What- what do you mean?" Mavis asked worried, not putting anything past her Mom's level of crazy.
"They'll help you, they'll change you back to normal. What you feel is wrong, it's wrong and they will help you understand that." Sarah said loudly as Mavis suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around both of her elbows. Thrashing backward, she could see two men starting to drag her away.
"Mom! Mom! Who are these people? Mom!" Mavis shouted as she felt her feet lift off the ground, her strength doing her no good. She somehow got her head to turn slightly, looking at the words on their ID badges.
