ONE | WE ONLY SEE EACH OTHER
AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS
"Tate..." I heard a voice call out for me, I turned to see Allison staring at me. "Hi..." I waved at her as she walked slowly towards me. "You're alive..." Allison gasped softly. "I guess..." I smiled as I turned to see Diego and Luther walking downstairs.
"Vanya's here," Allison informed. "Oh, I missed her!" I grinned as I walked into the living room before Diego stopped me. "You sure? You wanna listen to her after everything she's done?" Diego said, taunting her.
"What did she do?" I questioned before Luther walked towards me and hugged me. "Damn you look big," I commented. "I'll explain later," Luther whispered. "How much did I miss?" I asked, shooting Luther a playful nudge as we walked into the living room.
I saw a man wearing a mid-skirt, who I assumed was Klaus, who was already at the bar, "Baby sis! You're awake!" I grinned at him as he ran towards me, engulfing me in a hug.
Luther went and got me a bottle of water, "Here, I think you'll need it," I began taking sips of it before faking a smile. "So when did you get up?" Klaus questioned. "A few days ago," I answered, grinning proudly at my grown siblings.
The room was silent. I removed Luther's arm from my shoulder. Allison took a sip of her drink. "Um..." Luther started. "I guess we should get this started. So I figured we could have a sort of memorial service in the courtyard at sundown, say a few words, just at Dad's favorite spot." Luther suggested.
"Dad had a favorite spot?"
"You know, under the oak tree, we used to sit out there all the time. None of you ever did that?" Luther asked, dumbfounded. "Will there be refreshments? Tea? Scones? Cucumber sandwiches are always a winner," Klaus asked, completely unfazed, while waving a cup of alcohol in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
"What? No. And put that out. Dad didn't allow smoking in here," Luther ordered. "Is that my skirt?" Allison questioned, pointing at Klaus wearing her clothes as he set his drink down.
"What?" Before looking down and answering, "Oh yeah, this. I found it in your room. It's a little dated, I know, but it's very breathy on the..." he waved his hand around the skirt, "Bits,"
"Listen up. Still, some important things that we need to discuss, all right?" Luther yelled out, grabbing everyone's attention. "Like what?" Diego asked, "Like the way he died," Luther responded suspiciously. "And here we go," Diego muttered, knowing what Luther was about to say.
Vanya joined in, "I don't understand. I thought they said it was a heart attack," I raised my eyebrow in surprise. "Yeah, according to the coroner," Luther answered. "Well, wouldn't they know?" Vanya asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Theoretically,"
"Theoretically?" Allison shot back, curious about Luther's thoughts. "I'm just saying, at the very least, something happened. The last time that I talked to Dad, he sounded strange," Klaus gargled the alcohol in his mouth, "Oh, quelle surprise!"
"Strange how?" Allison asked curiously. "He sounded on edge and told me I should be careful who to trust," Luther answered. "Luther, he was a paranoid, bitter old man who was starting to lose what was left of his marbles," Diego said as he got up from his seat, and walked toward Luther.ย
"No. He must have known something was going to happen," Luther asked, not willing to believe Diego. Luther turned to Diego. "Look, I know you don't like to do it, but I need you to talk to Dad," Klaus pointed to himself in shock at the request.
Allison and I scoff, knowing Klaus couldn't do it now. Klaus was just nervous, "I can't just call Dad in the afterlife and be like, "Dad, could you just... stop playing tennis with Hitler for a moment and take a quick call?"
"Since when? That's your thing,"
"I'm not in the right..." Klaus pauses, "Frame of mind," Klaus completed. "You're high?" Allison stated. "Yeah! Yeah! I mean, how youโ are you not listening to this nonsense?" Klaus is referring to Luther's plan. "Well, sober up, this is important," Luther demanded, causing Klaus to sigh.
"Then there's the issue of the missing monocle," I slowly realized this family was not how I had remembered. "Who gives a shit about a stupid monocle?" Diego muttered.
"Exactly," He turned to Diego, "It's worthless. So, whoever took it, I think it was personal. Someone close to him. Someone with a grudge,"
Klaus scoffed, baffled at the accusations, "Where are you going with this?" Diego leans closer to Luther, "Oh, isn't it obvious, Klaus? He thinks one of us killed Dad." He just remained silent, confirming Diego's speculation.
"You do," Klaus and I said in unison, "How could you think that?" Vanya asked in disbelief.
Diego began changing his tone, "So you also think that one of you killed Dad?" I shook my head, denying the accusation.
"So no, now I'm confused, why would you side with Luther over here?"Luther pulled me away from Diego. "You leave her alone," He pointed to Diego, warning him. "Because you assholes were no better than our father," I stated, causing Diego to glare at me.
"Great Job, Luther. Way to lead." Diego sneered before leaving the room. "That's not what I'm saying," Luther tried to defend himself. "You're crazy, man, you're crazy," Klaus muttered before he got up and followed Diego out.
"I'm not finished," Luther asked Diego to come back. "Sorry, I'm just gonna go murder, Mom. Be right back." Klaus got up from his seat.
Luther tried to stop Klaus, "That's not what I'm saying, I didn'tโ" he sighed, Vanya, went after Klaus out briefly, Alison was last to leave the room, "Allison. Jeez..." Luther tried to apologize. "That went well," Luther mumbled to himself.
Luther pulled away, went over to the vinyl shelf, and began to pick one before placing it in the vinyl player. "We're pulling all of that negativity out of you. Come on, let's dance," The song began to play, and I got up and stood there.
Luther began to dance, "Come on, it's only us. You're fine," I reluctantly gave in and started to dance. My hips followed the beat of the song. We were having the time of our lives dancing around in that tiny room. Luther hit an airplane by accident.
Out of nowhere, thunder came from outside, causing the music to stop playing. I froze, and Luther did too, "It's March. How the hell would there be a thunderstorm?" I said.
The types of vinyl and I began to fly towards Luther, who quickly caught both of us, but we were confused about where the strong wind and thunder were coming from. Luther and I ran out of the room and headed outside.
