FOUR | A FIGHT AT DOUGHNUT SHOP, HOW ICONIC

We slid into stools inside Griddy's Doughnuts, "Do you even have money to pay for your food?" I asked, sliding into the seat. Five ignored me as he rang the bell aggressively.

I saw a truck driver arrive inside and take a seat next to Five. He placed his hat on the counter. I just waved politely and he smiled back at me.

Agnes came out from the back, "Sorry the sink was clogged," Agnes greeted, tying her apron around her waist. I gasped softly at Agnes, remembering the sweet memories of her serving me.

"Tate?" Agnes looked at me with a smile. "That's me," I grinned happily. "It's been so..." Her eyes wandered over my face. "Long?" I asked before she nodded awkwardly, I guess she's never seen me before again.

She asked Five and the truck driver, pulling out a notepad and preparing to note down the orders. "What will it be?" Agnes asked. "Give me a chocolate eclair," The man said as Agnes noted it down, scribbling on her notepad.

"Can I get a kid a glass of milk or something?" I held in my laughter. "The kid wants coffee, black," Five stared at Agnes. "Cute kid," she just commented and Five proceeded to grin widely, mocking her. "Jelly doughnut," I tried to keep my smile.

Agnes wandered to make our orders. "I don't remember this place being such a shithole," Five commented. "I used to come here as a kid, used to sneak out with my brothers and sisters and ate doughnuts till we puked, simpler times, huh?"

The man just listened and nodded, "I supposed," Agnes came over and placed down our orders, "I got theirs," The driver offered to pay for our meal, "Thanks," we smiled.

"You must know your way around the city," Five stared at the driver's patch. "I hope so, I've been driving around it for 20 years," I began to doze off but still heard their voice loud and clear. "Good I need an address,"

Five shoved the address he had written down a napkin into his pocket before taking a sip of his coffee.

The door opened, and a group of people dressed up in black suits with guns came up from behind us. "That was fast, I thought I'd had more time before they found me," Five said. "Okay, So let's all be professional about this, yeah? On your feet and come with us, they want to talk," A man in a black suit ordered.

"I've got nothing to say," Five said, brushing the cup handle. The hitman seemed frustrated, "It doesn't have to go this way, you think I want to shoot a kid and go home with that on my conscience?"

Five just sat there unfazed, "Oh I wouldn't worry about that, you won't be going home," He swiftly grabbed a knife, turning to the man before teleporting over behind the man and stabbing him in the back causing him to shoot up the place before falling on his face.

The rest of the guys became more alert of Five's abilities, some of them even pointed their guns at my face, I lifted my arms, proving my innocence.

Five teleport onto the counter, "Hey assholes," He grabbed their attention, turning the focus back onto him. I got off my seat slowly while they shot aimlessly at the space that Five teleported away.

Five knocked on the door. The gunmen turned around and fired at the door causing the glass door to shatter.

I walked over to one of the guys stabbing a fork into their abdomen before seeing Five doing the same with another guy but with a butter knife.

Blood began to spray onto my face as Five pulled down another guy onto the table choked him with his tie and grabbed a pencil stabbing it into the other guy's crotch.

I threw a plate at the remaining guys before Five used the same pencil and jabbed the last guy in the eye. Five and I saw the two of the men get up so we both rushed to the front, teleporting causing them to shoot at each other.

He grabbed his tie from the previous man and tied it back onto his neck before snapping the last guy's neck sharply.

I sat down next to him, watching in horror as Five pushed a sharp knife into his skin before digging into his flesh to retrieve what seemed like a chip.

"Five, what the hell are you doing!" I yelled, trying to stop him. "Would you shut up?" He tugged onto my arm again and pulled me out of the shop.

"Five, this is insane!" I yammered as Five threw the chip down. He readjusted his tie as he walked on, "Come on, I'm fixing your wound," He ignored me and we got in the car before driving off again.

Five teleported us into a mysterious apartment, "Whose house is this?" I got worried. "Vanya's," My eyes widened, "Why are we even here?" Five just sat on the armchair and I sat next to him on the sofa beside him.

"Why are you so far away?" Five stared at me, I glanced at him. "Because I want to be as far as I can from you, you psycho," The door began to rattle, meaning that Vanya was home.

The moment the door was opened, Five switched on a light, "Jesus," Vanya jumped back, scared, "You should have locks on your windows," Five commented.

"I live on the second floor," Vanya said, placing her keys on a stack of magazines. "Rapists can climb," Five stated. "You are so weird," Vanya mumbled.

"Do you have anything to drink by any chance?"

I asked. "Yeah, I- Iโ€” got something, is coffee good?" Vanya stuttered while getting up from the couch and walking towards the fridge.

She began to pour a cup of coffee before adding in some sugar as I watched Five continue to sit there while glancing occasionally at Vanya and me, he kept rubbing his hands worryingly.

After we sat back down together, Vanya sat back on the couch while I chose to sit on the floor. Five looked at us, "I have decided that you two are the only ones that I can trust," I looked at him funny, "Why us?"

"Because you'll listen," Five just nodded to us. "Okay," Vanya got up again from the couch went into the bathroom, and came out with bandages and gauze.

Vanya sat down with us, Five automatically pulled up his sleeve, revealing the wound he had when he and I were at Griddly. Vanya winced at the wound, she began to dab the washcloth on Five's wound to remove the blood.

While I looked at the severity of Five's wound, Five started, "When I jumped forward and got stuck in the future," I took a deep breath, preparing for what was to come. "Do you know I found?"

"No," Vanya shook her head. "Nothing, absolutely nothing," He just stared back, "As far as I know, I was the last person on earth, I never figured out what killed the human race, but...," Five paused, I was getting uneasy so I begin to fiddle my telekinesis, lifting my cup, twirling it around.

"I did find something else, the date it happens. The world ends in eight days and I have no idea how to stop it," I stopped fidgeting and dropped my cup on the floor, inducing it to shatter.

I was in disbelief at what Five said, I didn't know whether to believe him or go home on the spot right now.

"I'll put on a pot of coffee,"
