When they were kids they were best of friends, Maija and Quil, Quil and Maija, they just worked. He always had a crush on her, even proposed to her when they were seven, she obviously said yes and then they had a fake little ceremony in Quil's grandpas backyard. She always liked him back, and neither one of them hid it, especially when they got older.

Everyone knew they were together without actually being together, they were constantly all over each other, and sneaking off together for kisses more often than one could count. They were perfect. They never dated, but they may as well have been together, they did everything a couple would do. But Quil never had the guts to ask her to be his girlfriend, and Maija started to get annoyed.

Maija and Quil got into an argument about it, a nasty one- she wanted to date, he was scared it'd ruin the friendship and that labels we're stupid. They both said things neither of them meant, but both believed. A month went by of no contact, only longing stares from one another across the crowded classroom. The occasional pissy comment to mutual friends, knowing that whatever they said would get back to the other. Really the two just trying to hurt one another because of the hurt they felt themselves.

Then, suddenly, Quil got a girlfriend-but plot twist, it wasn't Maija. Wanna know the worst part? It was Maija's best friend, Layla. Then, he phased. And everything got even more f'd up.
