AS A CHILD, Maureen Yaxley often found herself feeling drawn to the thousands of love stories crowding her family's library, specially those with the one very specific theme: forbidden love. Stories of the likes of Romeo&Juliet and Jane Eyre, stories that were only placed in the library due to her mother's strange (and somewhat twisted) fascination with muggle literature, one that resembled the appreciation wizards sometimes had for house-elves.

Throughout the later years, she'd think that, perhaps, her love for these stories was what led her life to become one of them.

Erin Danes was the exact opposite of everything the Yaxley girl was expected to fall in love with. The Ravenclaw girl was, for starters, a muggleborn girl, and not the male heir of a pure blood family that Maureen could marry into in order to further her family's reign in the Wizarding World. She was also loud and outspoken and so unabashedly herself, and really, could anyone blame Maureen for falling for her?

However, as the pair find themselves thrown into opposing sides in an impending war, Maureen can't help but fear that maybe they're just a tragedy in the making. K

━ anyways uh!! basic situational info!! maureen and erin are both ravenclaws and in the marauders' year. they're roommates and their feelings for each other have sort of slowly harbored throughout the years

━ bicon erin constantly gets told that she probs belonged in gryffindor because she's super headstrong and like, has a very attention-demanding prescience and is v much brave but she's always like "are you saying im not smart??" and thus the conversation die

━ (later she'll laugh abt it with her dorm mates who all know that erin was super close to being in gryffindor but was also very set on being in ravenclaw and thus she was)

━ maureen is this shy little lesbian who constantly feels like she's obligated to do everything to please her family but doesn't really agree with their beliefs (anymore. it was all she knew before hogwarts so not agreeing was kind of impossible)

━ the fic should spread throughout the years, starting off with first year and finishing with post hogwarts graduation

━ during first year, erin didn't really like maureen mainly because she hung out w other purebloods who were big on blood supremacy like lucius && bellatrix

━ but maureen always looked super uncomfortable with these people who were supposed to be her "friends" and eventually erin was like "hey uhhh your friends suck, wanna hang?" and maureen being the shy little thing she is just sort of tripped around her words while trying to say yes

━ so maureen started hanging out with Erin's group of friends (i recommend making ocs for this but up to you) but she was always closest to erin

━ um erin is friends w the maurauders but they're not the CLOSEST. out of the group, she only really talks to james

━ fast-forward to third year, suddenly girls are talking abt boys and shit, and erin is joining in on it and maureen is over here like "uhhhhhhhhhh" bc she doesn't think of liking girls as an option so she's just super confused about the sudden boy craze

━ but then erin confesses she finds mary mcdonald attractive and has a small crush on her and maureen is like ??? fancying girls is an OPTION ???

━ (she's also lowkey jealous but doesn't recognize it as such at the time)

━ but like throughout the year she starts to realize more and more how all these things her friends are saying they feel towards boys she feels towards girls. more specifically, erin

━ maureen is convinced that erin could never like her back so she doesn't say anything about it

━ it's towards the end of third year when blood supremacists and such rise their stakes somewhat and the obvious tension that has been forming in the wizarding world intensifies bc rumors of Voldemort going around and trying to "purify" magic stop being rumors

━ so Maureen's mother tells her that "they've let this go on long enough," and that "it's about time [she] learn[s] [her] place in society and leaves that mudblood"

━ maureen is super sad but is also extremely intimidated by her mother and really doesn't wanna oppose her so by the time fourth year starts she tries to hang out w people her parents would find more "acceptable"

━ iow, regulus black, and narcissa

━ but erin's like?? oi what the fuck??

━ regulus gets a crush on maureen and is v obvious about flirting with her but she doesn't realize it so erin is sort of fuming and then she's like "oh shit" because that means she has a crush on the girl who for some reason left her for rich pureblood assholes and that's Not Good

━ she sort of ends up spilling her guts out to james abt it who talks to sirius abt it who knows that the sacred 28 got a lot more pretentious and shitty over the summer because of voldemort so he decides to talk to maureen

━ and talk he does, and maureen immediately admits that she's kind of miserable without her friends but that she really doesn't want to anger her parents

━ so sirius is like "well, they don't have to KNOW"

━ and yeah sirius is kind of a blood traitor but he's still considered a part of the noble house of black at this point so they decide that she'll pretend to hang out w sirius when she'll just be off w erin

━ this begins the forbidden love adventure of maureen yaxley and erin danes

━ except neither of them has admitted they like the other yet because they're a pair of idiots despite being ravenclaws

━ finally, FINALLY, james has had enough of their bullshit and he's like "HEY!! YOU TWO LIKE EACH OTHER!! NOW KISS!!"

━ and they're both like "wAIT you DO?!" and then they just giggle a lot when they realize that they had both being completely blind to each other's feelings

━ fifth year rolls around and sirius runs away so maureen no longer has a cover. she's asked to stop talking to him and she's like "well fuck" internally but just tightly nods irl

━ okay so like!! at this point maureen knows fully well that her parents are no good, to her or anyone, but she doesn't know how to get out

━ so she just sort of?? plays along to what they say??

━ but she needs to find a new way to meet up with now girlfriend erin danes

━ DRUMROLL PLEASE!!! introducing: the ROOM OF REQUIREMENT

━ ok so erin is the one to find it

━ but maureen is the one who actually knows what it is

━ they keep it between themselves  because they just really want to have this one place for only the two of them

━ fifth year for the two of them is just sneaking around and being cuties altogether

━ enter sixth year

━ sirius begins constantly being on Maureen's back about leaving the yaxleys but she's still generally not ready for that. her relationship w her parents is mediocre at best but they're still the only family she knows

━ at last, during winter break, she decides to pack up & leave, but her father  catches her in the process. he confronts her, but only verbally, and for the first time ever maureen stands up to him. she defends her gf and her friends and most importantly herself

━ "you won't be welcome back here if you walk out that door!! the dark lord will not spare you if you choose to leave!!"

━ *door slams*

━ oka so now maureen is out but has nowhere to go. thus she shows up on Erin's doorstep at 2am after a whole lotta walking and is like "hi"

━ erin's parents are super cool w taking maureen in until she finds somewhere else to stay but they're also very clear abt not letting the pair sleep in the same room

━ so maureen ends up on a (mind you, v comfy) couch

━ they go back to hogwarts for the rest of the term and although she's kind of terrified of voldemort and his following and what could happen to her she feels the most free she ever has and FINALLY gets to spend time w erin & the rest of their friend group out in the open

━ that summer, maureen finds a job helping out in madame malkin's and gets to stay in a small apartment over it for it. she kind of suspects that that's not the USUAL treatment for employees but no one mentions it

━ seventh year is overall the worst year. this war that has been looming upon them is v obviously here. people are going missing, students constantly get pulled out of their classes to be told about the death of a relative. muggleborn students are dropping out and going into hiding left and right. it's just terrifying.

━ erin's parents deem it perhaps too dangerous to be in hogwarts, and when they're offered a place to hide w their daughter, they immediately accept

━ so erin leaves and maureen has no way of knowing where she is or whether she's alright or not

━ seventh year feels slow and lonely and ill-fated

━ after almost eight months of no contact, maureen gets a letter from erin: she wants her to come with to the hiding place. there's enough space for one more and it feels safe

━ maureen ofc accepts and they meet up and go into the hiding place which is in bacalar, mexico

━ its a small cabin near the lake with a TON of protective wards around it

━ erin's parents are no longer there, they've gone to a separate safe house, this one in france, that has a lot of muggle relatives to witches and wizards

━ the fic should probably be left here, open ended. maureen and erin are away in a relatively safe place but a war is still going on and there are no guarantees. they've sort of settled down together though, and they're both happy with how their lives are

━ anyways uwu i have a separate hp era plot connected to this one so that's a thing you should probably go check out if you wish to write this!! obviously you don't need to write both but if they ever both get taken then it's probably best for the authors to keep in touch and stuff
