"oh, my god!" keilah gasps, flinching away from her screen the moment the call connects.

sunny giggles, bringing the camera closer to her face. "hehe heyyyyyy," she sings.

"i'd like a warning the next time there's going to be a jump scare," keilah retorts, giving sunny the stink eye.

"what's the fun in that?!" rowan shouts from the driver's seat.

keilah brings the camera closer to her face, confused as to where rowan is. "row? where are you?"

a peace sign flashes into the frame for two seconds before disappearing. "driving! suns and i are picking avery up from the airport. his portion of filming for the flash wrapped yesterday."

"do you guys want to come over for dinner tonight?" zendaya calls from the opposite end of the couch, nudging keilah with her foot. the two were in the gaming room, eating their way through the bags of candy they bought yesterday.

"YES!" sunny exclaims, a bright smile covering her cheeks. "yes, yes. a million times, yes!"

someone groans on the other end of the call. "god, you're so embarrassing," rowan grumbles.

keilah nudges zendaya back, shooting her a half-smile. "so, why'd you call?" she brings her attention back to the conversation at hand.

"well, you told kc in person and ave over facetime yesterday about joshua's most recent texts..." sunny trails off, hoping the blonde would get where she was going with this. unfortunately, she didn't, and that was made clear by the confusion on her face. "what do you want us to say if avery asks us questions after we pick him up? and when are you going to tell harrison?"

"'cause he—harrison, obviously—cares a lot about you, and i mean a lot. we all know this..." rowan is promptly interrupted by keilah.

"first, tell avery he can ask me whatever questions he has tonight. second, i don't want to talk about harrison. third, i don't even want to talk about joshua, actually." she ignores the disappointed facial expression zendaya shoots her. at this point, she's seen it so many times it no longer causes her heart to ache in shame.

sunny glances at her sister, beginning to feel an inch of the frustration she knew rowan and the rest of their friend group was experiencing.

things were reaching a tipping point, and everyone but keilah could feel it. all of them were living in reality while she was living in a fantasy land where ignoring the world around her would fix everything, but it wouldn't and it couldn't. her "ignorance is bliss" attitude was going to backfire and burn her soon, and her friends were trying to save her from feeling the flame.

"i'm just gonna say it—"

keilah cuts rowan off again, "do you have to?"

"yes because i'm fed up with your shit and i know i'm not the only one! am i, z?"

everything goes silent and the girls wait for the actress's response.

turning her head in zendaya's direction, keilah raises an eyebrow. in a way, almost challenging her not to agree, but that wasn't going to happen.

"no, you're not the only one." zendaya sighs, running a hand through her hair. "keilah, girl, don't look at me like that." rolling her eyes, the scowl didn't fall from keilah's face. "we're all sick and tired of this endless cycle of denial, anger, deflection, and projection. you need to touch some grass and stop playing games. what happened with joshua happened. it was god-awful and understandably will take time to heal from, but he's back. he is out and about, and has told you he will be seeing you soon. you are in danger, but here you are in LA, playing happy go-lucky influencer. i think you should be taking this more seriously and finding a way to let your loved ones help you. all of us care about you, harrison included, and we're here for you. let us in."

those final three words were spoken individually and slowly, each one tugging at keilah's heart. sunny and zendaya can visibly see tears pooling in her brown eyes. finally, a shred of emotion is being displayed.

all was silent for a moment.

"couldn't have said it better myself," rowan sighs. "it's time for you to wake up, keils."
