Hearts and Halos // Chapter Four

// Ponyboy's Point Of View //

I left after a few hours of just sitting there and crying. It tired me out a lot and I really didn't even want to do anything but sleep and stay in bed.

My brothers are "worried" about me and they want me to get outside more often. So, I pretend to go to the park and hang out there while I'm actually visiting Johnny.

I arrive at my house and open the door slowly, hearing a loud creak come from it. Stepping inside, I close the door behind me and turn around.

I walk into the living room, it was completely dark so I couldn't see a thing. The lamp turns on suddenly and I gasp in surpriseโ€‹.

"Where have you been? Do you know what time it is," Darry screams while standing up from his chair.

'Not this again', I think while rolling my eyes slightly.

"Darry I'm okay. I just. . . I just went to the lot to watch the stars," I said with a shrug.

Darry knew how much I was obsessed with the stars so maybe he would believe me for once. Darry uncrosses his arms and places his hands on his hips, tapping his foot.

"Ponyboy I don't believe you. . . This is the fifth time this week you've been out so late. What's going on with you," Darry asks, his voice softening.

"Nothing is going on with me. I'm okay," I say.

"Ponyboy don't lie. . . This is about Johnny isn't it," he asks.

"D-don't say his n-name," I say quietly, my voice cracking.

"Ponyboy. . . We've lost him too so don't go on your pity trip," Darry says.

"Pity trip! Pity trip! Dammit Darry! I lost my best friend and it was all my fault! I lost the person I loved most and it was my fault! Don't you dare tell me I'm on a pity trip," I scream out.

"Don't use that tone with me! Go to your room," he yells pointing down the hall.

I rolled my eyes and stomped down to my room, slamming the door behind me. He makes me so mad sometimes!
