Chapter 6 *Getting Warmer*

The night got darker after that and colder too. The boys both pulled blankets out of their bags and spread them onto the leaves.

If only I'd been so prepared. I dug around in my own knapsack to no avail. Unfortunately, I hadn't planned on spending the night in another world. Soon, I could hear Tip snoring softly. Huffing to myself angrily, I lied down on the ground and propped my head up on my bag. I pulled my jacket around me tighter to keep out the cool wind but I still shivered. My breath emitted from my mouth in puffs of white smoke as I curled up into a ball to keep me warm.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could feel someone watching me. I sighed when I looked up to see Jack gazing over at me intently.

"It's not nice to stare," I teased him and he blushed a deep scarlet.

"Sorry. I just...Are you cold?" he asked across from me, stumbling over his words.

I snorted.

"No, it feels like a sauna over here," I bit out sarcastically.

He looked at me quizzically, clearly not understanding what a 'sauna' was. I rolled my eyes, not unkindly.

"Yes, I'm cold," I told him.

He bit his lip in thought for a split-second before lifting up an edge of the blanket covering him. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"What?" I asked, dumbfounded.

He patted the ground beside him and I arched an eyebrow. I let out a long sigh before relenting.

"Fine..." I said softly and walked over to him.

Lying down on the ground beside him, he wrapped the blanket around my shivering form. He looked at me a moment before grabbing me by the waist and scooting me closer to him. I felt my skin tingle where he touched me.

"What are you-" I started to protest, almost struggling against him.

He didn't answer me. Just smiled in response like he hadn't just sent shocks of electricity through my skin from his contact. I sighed and rested my head back on the leaves. They rustled beneath me as I twisted onto my side, facing Jack. His gray eyes bored into mine before he spoke.

"I never got your name," he said softly in the darkness.

A few seconds passed between us before I answered him.

"Dawn. My name's Dawn," I whispered back quietly.

He smiled slightly, those gray eyes reflecting the light of the moon overhead.

"I'm Jack."
