ʚ┊entry : prologue

furuya y/n is a new transferee to seidou and also the famous monster rookie's sister. rumour has it that she had gone to inashiro before getting transferred to seidou, thus arriving a bit later than the normal expected date.

currently, you were thinking of a club to join for extra credit. in fact, you had to join one anyways. it was requirement set by the school.

"maybe i should just lie and say i'm in one already." you mumbled to yourself in satisfaction of your new plotting idea.

as a second-year, it was a requirement to join in at least one club. unfortunately for you, there were no specific clubs that you held any interest in. well, besides all the sports clubs.

there was just so much of a variety to choose from! from volleyball, to kendo, to even badminton. all these options available just excited you.

initially, you applied for three different sports clubs. one had rejected you as they stated how they only accepted males as managers. the other one rejected your application with no exact reason. fortunately, it seemed like lady luck was on your side. in the end you got accepted to be a manager for seidou's baseball team.

it worked well in your favor. baseball was an interesting sport you understood, and it gave you a good reason to keep watch on your younger brother.

walking near the baseball practice fields, you noticed how all the boys in the field played exceptionally well. the majority of the guys were roaring out with energy.

searching for your brother, you soon found him running, along with all the, you presumed, other first-years. jogging up to them, you swiftly latched yourself onto furuya's back as soon as you arrived. right away, furuya could tell it was his sister's doings. "y/n-chan..."

"why are you out of breath already, satoru," rather a statement than a question, you tried to hide your growing smile from showing.

it was not just furuya who has been lagging behind. you could tell by their faces that all the first-years were ready to pass out at any given moment. their paces slowed down and their breaths were heavy.

"i need stamina roll.." was all he muttered out, ignoring your teasings. the poor boy looked as if he would die if he took another step.

you shook your head and put him in a headlock, typical satoru. "how can you become ace at this state!"

satoru made a dark face for a second and huffed at you, escaping your grasps to catch up with his peers who were forced to shout as they ran.

"one! two! three!"

"let's go!"

"four, two, three!"

"let's go!"

"no way, his stamina is still as low as ever ahahha." you laughed to yourself, unaware of the set of eyes staring at you.

as expected, people gave you weird glances. not that you cared enough to worry. you knew it was strange for a random girl to come out to the fields and talk to furuya, out of anyone in the team.

calming yourself down after making fun of your little brother in your head, you went back to fulfilling your main agenda: finding the baseball managers. you wouldn't officially start working as a manager until tomorrow. yet it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with the place.

it wasn't as hard as you thought. in the corner by the light post, you spotted four young girls who were carrying a variety of boxes for the team.

you walked up to the four while grabbing their attention. you greeted them politely.

"hello! i'm furuya y/n, a second year. i'm the new manager," you said confidently, a mannerly smile placed on your face.

a girl with dark blue hair gave you a warm smile back as she placed down boxes of foods donated onto a table. without doubt, the quantity made you slightly amazed. "hello, furuya-chan! rei-san informed us earlier, it's a pleasure to have you."

the other three managers greeted you as well, ecstatic to have another person join them. you watched as all the managers went around the group and introduced themselves.

not too long after, you were giggling and chatting away with them. the young managers had all made you feel welcomed.

"so you're the furuya y/n we've been expecting! i hope you're prepared, the intense practice lately has been such a hassle for us." umemoto sachiko said.

"make yourself feel welcomed, we're happy you've joined the team!"

the tall dark haired manager, turned out to be the oldest and most experienced one, fujiwara takako, third-year.

the other two who are natsukawa yui, second-year and yoshikawa haruno, first-year embraced you just as brightly. you learnt that haruno was also a new manager and the most clumsy one.

they gave you a brief understanding and instructions about your duties as a baseball manager and what you should expect. all the tasks seem simple enough to complete, quite similar to what you've been doing for inashiro.

the five of you decided to chat for a while so they could get to know you: and vice versa. they reassured you that they've finished up for now and that you weren't bothering them. it was truly a nice experience. talking with the other managers really had time going by swiftly.

"w-wait, so you're furuya-kun's older sister? you guys look so similar!" bursts out haruno, causing a group near you to turn around and give you guys a good stare.

"is that so?" your cheeks heated up in embarrassment, people always commented how similar both furuya and you looked, yet you could never get used to it.

"totally! do you play baseball too?"

"only casually, but i haven't played since junior high." you answered, nervously chuckling.

right after you answered her question, two figures slowly approached you. it was easy to make out who it was, rei-san and coach kataoka.

coach kataoka nodded at you while rei-san smirked, a special glint in her eyes.

"nice to see you again, furuya-chan" rei-san said politely. you greeted her back nicely before turning your gaze to the intimidating coach.

back when you were at inashiro, everyone had said the reason seidou hadn't gone to nationals in six years was because coach kataoka was being too "green." this specifically included coach kunimoto and your close friend, narumiya mei. if anything, you were curious about what he thought of that.

judging by all of the recent games seidou's had, coach kataoka's coaching seems to have improved rapidly incomparably to last year.

he took your hand firmly, and shook it professionally. "welcome to the team, furuya-san. thank you for your support, i expect hard work from you." he stated with an absolute stare.

"we're glad to have you, i hope you'll assist us in making it to nationals." coach continues, lowering his body to bow down.

you were taken aback. furuya had always mentioned how straightforward the coach was. now, you could finally understand what he meant.

"yes, sir!" you stiffly said, reciprocating his bow. it was quite embarrassing as you never expected him to bow down to you.

you didn't want to lie, but it would take some time getting used to staff and members on the team. of course, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, though.

overall, coach kataoka was a man of few words but was very frank. he was someone who you could enjoy talking to, unlike the previous coaches you've had before.

not to mention rei-san, who told you that you should refer her as rei-senpai now, has a pleasant personality as well.

the staff members here were much more gratifying, you're grateful that furuya had chosen such a notable school. after all, you initially planned to continue your studies at inashiro if he hadn't begged you.

"i'll assemble everyone here to meet you," the coach interrupted your thoughts, gathering all the members, including the managers you met earlier.

hushed whispers filled the large crowd and familiar faces appeared within it also. you were a bit excited to get to know the team.

this was also due to the fact that you were a fan of some of the players. this included mostly the cute third-years and exceptional second-years. your deep admiration for their hard work had inspired you at some point. not to mention, narumiya talked a storm about some of them.

"listen up, everyone! welcome the new manager, furuya y/n."

to say the least, you were sure that this year would be a year filled with adventures and fun mishaps.

barely concentrating in class, you glimpsed through the class' windows. all the little motivation to learn in class right now had been dissipated long ago.

your thoughts had drowned out sensei's voice as all you were paying close attention to was the picturesque window next to you.

the sun was gleaming and the weather was oddly nice. "i should go out for popsicles later," you thought as you continued to observe the scenery.

patterns and arrays of clouds filled the sky with wonder. spring time was near and the grass had started to flourish along with meadows filled with endless wildflowers.

your thoughts had finally disappeared when a voice had interrupted your alone time. "y/n-san. lunchtime just began, stop staring into space" a voice chuckled from behind.

flustered, you quickly turned your head to the source of noise. there stood one of your classmates and club members who you had met at practice yesterday, miyuki kazuya.

"o-oh! hello, miyuki-kun." you choked on your words on accident.

not that you noticed before, but the classroom was completely empty with the exception of the two of you.

"what are you waiting for? lunch will be over soon, you can look at the view again when class starts back, idiot." miyuki snickered jokingly, the smirk on his face growing.

"don't you have a group of friends waiting for you?" he continues cheekily, making sure to emphasize his words.

"you don't have room to talk, mr. catcher," you deadpanned, knowing miyuki's only friends were people on the baseball team.

feeling offended, miyuki rambled on with excuses. " baseball takes up a lot of my time—hey! she's ignoring me..."

"damn right i am," you retorted back.

before you left, you started to clean all of your school supplies off your desk. placing your stationary back into your pouch, you quickly head towards the door.

just as you were about to leave, a metallic sound had made its way to your ears. you cast your eyes over to the brunette who you had forgotten was there, as he sent you his signature, brazen smirk.

he threw a can of green tea in your direction before speaking again. "catch quick, manager!"

in the midst of catching it, you sighed exasperatedly. "thank you for the drink, miyuki-kun. just so you know, i'm not returning it back."

"also, if you have nothing else to say, i will be taking my leave."

you tapped your foot against the school tile, waiting for an answer to be said. this wasn't the case all, as you were greeted with an earful of laughter.

"are you waiting for me to ask you to stay and chat with me like the ones in romantic films?" miyuki joked around playfully.

your eyebrows furrowed in agitation while your eyes widened. "shut up! you're the one who bothered me first–" your sentence got cut off when you saw the comical boy's expression. "my my, manager-chan, i never knew you were this type of person."

"this wasn't worth the wait, i'm leaving." you grumbled in reply, enchanting miyuki to let out a laugh.

the whole time your conversation was ongoing, miyuki had taken the chance and made his way up to you.

either way, you turned your back and made your way towards the door. you didn't want to deal with the baseball player's antiques.

"leaving so soon?" miyuki called out teasingly.

right as you were about to retort something smart, someone had ran into the classroom in fury.

"hyahah! i looked like a fool waiting for you outside, miyuki. you little–"

let's just say you ended up wasting your lunchtime to watch a certain cheetah beat up miyuki.
