"I know you're not looking at the stars, Hyung."
And Minho clearly wasn't trying to hide it. Hyunjin could hear the smile in his voice.
"I am. As I said, the stars really are beautiful today."
Hyunjin knew he should stop it while he still could. The tension between them had grown and they both knew. While he wasn't entirely certain about what he felt for Minho, it was clearly nothing they should be indulging in.
And still he exhaled, letting his head rest on Minho's shoulder.
"Thank you, a lot." He didn't even have to explain why he was thanking him, clearly Minho knew. He was grateful for the other being there for him, when no one else was. He loved all the members, and yet no one was as quick as Minho. No one sat on the cold balcony floor with him and looked at the stars. "You should show STAYs this side of you more often. They shouldn't be thinking of you as someone mean and cold."
A chuckle. "As long as you know I'm not like that, I'm alright with things staying the way they are."
Minho truly was adorable. Everyone knew he struggled with expressing his feelings and emotions, but Hyunjin knew that in reality he was a sweetheart.
Perhaps he shouldn't taken the chance and let the other know that they had gotten too close, but he couldn't. Deep down he too wanted it. Minho matched his personality perfectly. They worked out so well. If it weren't for the company and the government.
Again the male exhaled and closed his eyes.
"You're not looking at the stars anymore, Jinnie."
Hyunjin took a hold of Minho's hand and intertwined their fingers. The elder didn't let go. "I'm thinking." "About?"
For a moment he stayed silent. It was difficult to put his thoughts into words, especially without giving Minho false hopes. They weren't meant to be.
"Thinking about the stars. In a way, they know what everyone feels in their most lonely moments. I'm thinking about what they could know about me."
He could hear Minho exhale as his lips curled up into a smile. Instantly he got himself ready to be laughed at, but instead Minho squeezed his hand and wrapped his free arm around his body, to pull him closer. "Stars can't talk, but IΒ can. Maybe one day you can trust me with your secrets as well."
Others would have laughed at him, made fun of him and stated a scientific response. But Minho didn't.
"I love poetry. I read poems before I go to sleep." It was just one of so many things Hyunjin had never told anyone. It wasn't really a secret, many knew, because they had asked. But he never said it just because he felt like letting someone know more about him.
Although right when he could hear Minho start a sentence, someone opened the balcony door.
"Jinnie, Jisung wanted to apolo- oh! I'm sorry! Sorry!" It was none other than Felix and when Hyunjin turned around to look at him, he could see the smirk on his face. The male rolled with his eyes and gently let go of Minho's hand, getting up to join the others once again.
The next morning he was expecting to have breakfast with his roommates and then get ready for shooting the next parts. But when he woke up, he found a small envelope on his nightstand. Just what was that?
It was only natural to open it and read what it said. And the words made his heart beat faster.
"If only stars could talk,
They would tell you that there aren't enough words to express how I feel.
If only stars could talk,
They would tell you to let me kiss you,
And let my lips paint the pictures not a single brush could paint.
If only stars could talk,
They would tell you that you could say nothing,
And I would believe everything you said.
So let me be you star,
And tell you the things they can not."
Hyunjin didn't have to be a genius to know who wrote that for him. It was such a short poem, but it seemed to be expressing how he felt perfectly. And that was what made it so special.
He had written it just for him, based on their relationship from before. He had taken the time to sit down and write it. And it made Hyunjin's heart melt.
Carefully he letter was placed back into the envelope and put inside the drawer of his nightstand. That's where it'd be safe from Han's curious hands and Changbin's noisy ass. That poem was meant for him to read. And he would keep it safe.Β
What he didn't think about, was the fact the letter was in his room. Meaning someone had let Minho in to place the envelope on his nightstand.
And who could that someone be? None other than Chan. Because his facial expression definitely said enough.
"What?", Hyunjin asked and raised an eyebrow. "Am I not allowed to smile now?", Chan answered and the other man furrowed his eyebrows. "I know what you want to know. I saw it, don't worry about it. It was obvious enough."
"It wasn't from me, though." "I know that." "What did it say?" "That's private."
"Okay, what the fuck is going on?", Han interrupted them and looked between Hyunjin and Chan.
The latter shrugged. "No idea what you're talking about?" "Oh, I hate you two and your weird secrets."
But thankfully he didn't keep asking. Because he had absolutely no idea how he would come up with an excuse.
And he thought that would be it, but it wasn't. As soon as he got out of their car and met up with the remaining members on set, Felix wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled him closer. Oh no.
"Did I interrupt your little flirting yesterday? Oh I'm so sorry about that, Jinnie. Now tell me, why did Minho leave in the middle of the night? I know he went to your dorm." Hyunjin quickly covered Felix' mouth to shush him. "Don't say his name so loud! He's gonna hear it", the male complained and Felix took his hand away.
"Okay, okay! What about... Marigold?" "Marigold?" Yeah, that was it. Felix was insane. "His birth flower!" Okay. Maybe that wasn't too much of a bad idea. So he just nodded. It was alright.
"So why did Marigold visit you in the middle of the night?"
In the middle of the night? So Minho saw him sleep without pants on! That was embarrassing. How was he supposed to look at him ever again?
But Felix kept nudging him, he clearly wanted an answer. "He didn't visit me, he left a letter in my room." "A love letter? Hyunjin, that's just what you've always wanted! It's romantic, you love romance."
He did. He loved romance and he had always wanted to receive a love letter. But the letter Minho wrote was better than that. It wasn't just a love letter, it was a love poem.
Felix probably caught a glimpse of Hyunjin's smile before it disappeared again. "You shouldn't be encouraging this. It's wrong. It shouldn't be this way. That's just crazy."
There was a pain in his chest and he left before Felix could say any more. They had something important to do. They had to give their best for STAY. The absolute best music video.
Yet it was so difficult to concentrate when someone was clearly looking at one. Hyunjin knew he was looking at him. He could understand. If he could, he'd also be admiring Minho all day long. That man was gorgeous, just beautiful. And everyone knew.
And when their eyes met, it was as if time had stopped. It was so tempting to just drop everything and go to him, wrap his arms around his neck and pull him closer. That thought brought him back to reality and he looked away again. But he knew what he would be doing that evening.
"I'm sorry, Changbin. Maybe I can watch your evening workout another time. I have something important to do." Smiling he patted his shoulder and left to go to his room, where he sat down on his table.
He had the best ideas just an hour ago and now his head was empty. Just how could he make it sound good? Make it sound special?
Or how to put it into words without making his intention too obvious. He had to let him interpret the words.
Hyunjin wanted to bring a part of Minho's poem into his own. At the same time, he needed him to know that they weren't meant to be, before their tension would get unbearable. It wasn't the members reaction he was scared of, he knew they would be happy. It was the staff, the entire entertainment, the entire world he was scared of. And only because he had felt an emotion that was so human β love.
While brainstorming some ideas, he pulled out a piece of paper, where his finished poem would be written on. But just that would be boring. So to make it even a little bit more interesting, Hyunjin began sketching a Marigold.
"Hm.." He quietly hummed to himself, only coloring the orange of the flower and leaving out the green. And on top of that drawing he would write the poem. The only thing left for him to do was actually write it.
Usually Hyunjin had so many ideas, was so creative and knew exactly which words to use to make it sound as beautiful as possible. But now that he had to know it was about him, he had to make it more special.
And so he called Felix.
"Lixie, I need your help."
A giggle could be heard.
"Are you writing him a love letter?"
Hyunjin furrowed his eyebrows and rolled with his eyes.
"It's a poem, not a love letter. Forget about it, I don't think you can help me right now."
"Hey! Don't hang up. I can help. Actually, maybe you just wanna confess to him right now. He's in the kitchen, I'm in the living room."
His eyes widened. "Felix! Don't yell! He's gonna hear you."
"You should write about how special he makes you feel. Because he does, doesn't he? Oh, Hyunjin, I've no idea how you managed to fall for someone as icey as Minho Hyung."
Ah, of course Felix ignored what he had said just a few seconds ago. That was just the way that guy was after all. The idea itself wasn't bad. Minho did make him feel special. But icey? Was Minho really like that? No, he was so sweet and nice to him.
"He's not icey."
"Already defending him? Hyunjin, he'd bite Changbin's arm off if he'd touch him in the wrong moment. He nearly stabbed Chan with scissors when that guy bothered him too much. He is icey. I've never even seen him cry."
Felix wasn't wrong. But Minho simply didn't like showing his emotions a lot. That was just how he was.
"I think I know what I'm gonna write. Thank you, Felix."
"Hey! Hold on! Don't Don't wanna com-"
"See you tomorrow!" And he hung up.
If it was important, he'd send him a message right away. So he put his phone on the table and picked up his pen to start writing.
"There is a set answer,
An objective reply to a subjective question.
I imagine falling into your dizzying charms.
As someone who's fallen in love,
It's a bit hard to explain while being blinded by love.
I delude myself into thinking that someone who's cold to everyone is only warm to me.
And if you'd ask me,
I'd take you to a place far away,
A place where my star and I are side by side, laughing,
Because in a place far away, they aren't meant to be."
