Quiet

"I'm sorry. Once it...passes through... or comes out. I shall return it." I hold my hand over my chest. Feeling very bad for allowing this to happen. Flippy just waves his wands and smiles. Telling me that it was no problem. And that it wasn't my fault. Nutty has an act for constantly eating things he thinks are candy.

"What's the big deal? It's just a stupid necklace... Didn't even taste good." Nutty had picked up a book and was holding it upside down. Not even really reading it. I pinch the bridge of my nose with my free hand.

"Military dog tags are used to identify fallen or wounded soldiers and provide essential medical information for their treatment. We also call them identification tags. So, they usually hold all of our information. Veterans still keep theirs as a symbol or just something that means dear to them. They're not just a necklace. Which is why I'm going to make sure Flippy here gets his back one way or another." Detailing it to the best of my abilities so even he could understand. But I'm pretty sure he either wasn't paying attention or straight up just didn't care. Flippy on the other hand...

He looked at me with the heartfelt expression. As if he was surprised that I am willing to wait for nearly an entire day just for his dog tag to come back. Like he was so in shock. I don't know what's so shocking? I do it for anyone.

"Thank you...y-you really didn't have to. But thank you.." His expression was so happy yet tired. Poor guy.

After a while we just kind of stood there. It got awkward incredibly fast. What else were we supposed to say? I didn't want to leave, but I had to go to work soon. So, I figured I'd might as well make best of the situation. It's been awhile since I have set foot in a library. I could catch up on some books I've wanted to read. Hopefully they have 'em.

"Since I'm here I'd like to take a look at some books. Do you mind showing me the history section? Accident history if you please." I asked. While Nutty was chewing on the handcuffs trying to break free. This broke the tension quick. He nods his head happily and takes my arm. He's very touchy for a veteran. Most comrades I'm affiliated with became less affectionate or more so distant. If anything it feels like he became more clingy. Which I suppose is a good thing.

"Any particular time setting?; War, Old world, perhaps famous historical icons?" He asked me. His face bright and shiny as a child on his way to an amusement park. I don't blame him. Not a lot of people go to the library these days. I guess with all new technology coming out. Kind of sad, I love the smell of new books. Though they make me sneeze.

"Ughhh!! So boringggg! I can feel my brain melting from all this nerd stuff!!" Nutty's legs had gave up on him so I was now practically dragging him along. I felt like a single mother dragging along her kid who was a brat. "Nutty hush. You don't get to negotiate since you're the reason for all this... And old world would be good. I'm trying to find a book I read when I was little...It's called 'Hellish nature of our ancestors.' I remember reading it in Primary School. All predator children we're obligated to read that book."

We finally came to a halt in one of the books sections where it was a dead end. Showing a whole wall of books. And a movable ladder that helped reach the highest top. Flippy looked kinda concerned that I wanted to read that kind of book.

"Da, I uh have that book...are you sure you want that one? I still get nightmares remembering the graphic illustrations... Vather use to also read it as a bedtime story to me and-" "There it is." Nutty points up at a large and deep red book that's stuck out among the rest of the other books around it. Flippy stares at him.

"You've read it before, Nutty?" Question the green bear. Nutty shrug. "I was bored. I like the pictures. They were funny. My favorite part is where the bear ate that-" "Don't finish that sentence." Flippy growled.

He kindly climbed to the top to receive the book to me. It looked exactly how I saw it the first time I read it. A thick leathery red covering. Old and uneven sheets of paper...giant and old English font that read the title. I remember how hard it was for me to read the title since we weren't learned cursive that well.

"Thank you. I appreciate it." I thank him. To which I earn him placing his hand on my head. Rubbing it while also rubbing my ear. My ears flick. Affection is fine for most...Each animal has a particular spot that is sensitive to them. Some places you can touch and places you really shouldn't. Ears are fine. It makes us feel praised and rewarded... But sometimes other people so it to taunt us. Call us nothing but mutts who have no purpose in life than to obey...

This is why I hate headpats.
I move my head away. It felt rude but I liked my space. I knew he didn't mean it intentionally. "Sorry..." I apologize. He just told me it was fine and that he was the one who was sorry.

After I got the book. I found a nice area to read at. Nutty was in a chair neck to me dead asleep. Using his tail as a pillow. Pretty smart. Flippy also sat to join us. Because the library was kinda dead today. He didn't need to stay so much up front.

I clear my throat to grab his attention. He seemed to be stuck in a daze. "I like to uh read out loud. Is that okay? I know you hate this book so I don't want to be rude." I look down at the book. Not wanting to make eye contact.

"You...care for me?~"

„~¿ǝɯ ɹoɟ ǝɹɐɔ˙˙˙no⅄„

His words made me look up from the book. "Huh? What was that?" My ears flick. Could of sworn I heard two voices. The green bear shakes his head and smiles. Resting his head on his palm. "Uh nothing. Just saying how nice it was for you to ask. But no, I do not mind. You read. Go ahead." Odd...but I didn't question. I opened the book. Just for a BUNCH of dust to hit my face. Blowing the dust away with my hand as I cough into my shoulder. Feeling my nose tickle as I sneeze.

"Wow...is the book really that old? I remember reading it back in-.... Nevermind it's just gonna make me have a midlife crisis." "Basically saying your old?" "Go back to sleep, Nutty."

I cleared my throat. Flipping out of the table of contents and started on chapter 1. It had a interesting chapter page. Just like I remember... The pages resembled dried up blood and claw mark. With a dead animal carcass right underneath the words 'Chapter 1.'

"Graphic ... Ehem!... Chapter one."
