Elijah is in the middle of packing up Hope's nursery when Scarlett finally returns home. She joins Elijah in the nursery and stops dead in her tracks.
"What do you think you're doing, Elijah?" she demanded, her voice sharp with anger.
"Welcome back. What is it, the third night this week?" He replied. He was getting aggressive. He cared about his brother and Scarlett neither of them was doing good. Scarlett's behaviour has changed over the months. She was annoyed by everything
"I don't need a caretaker. I am invincible, remember? What are you doing, Elijah?" she snapped. "As we have discussed, our illusion needs to be flawless. Now, months have passed. It's the appropriate time," Elijah calmly replied, knowing she was at the peak of her irritation.
Scarlett scoffed, shaking her head as she paced the room. "Let me guess—next on your list, Klaus and I put on brave faces and pretend we're ready to start over, like none of this ever happened?"
As Elijah began to reply "I understand this is difficult for you--" but he was cut off "--What's difficult is knowing that Francesca Guerrera is still breathing after she was the one who plotted with the witches to kill my baby" Scarlett's hatred for the Guerreras burned hotter than ever, and Elijah knew vengeance was the only thing keeping her going. "You will have your vengeance, I promise you this" Elijah reassured her but she didn't care. She glared at him "Well, until then, this is my room, and I'll tell you when it's appropriate to clean it out." Scarlett moves out of the way so Elijah can leave the room.
For months, Scarlett and Klaus had barely spoken, avoiding each other as much as possible. Their grief had built walls between them, with Elijah and Hayley acting as their mediators. But tonight, those walls would break. Tonight, they would fight—together—for their daughter, for their Hope.
Elijah was explaining where all the rings were "We're taking the twelve original rings. Now, four of them sit in the hands of the Guerrera brothers. One on Oliver, one on Francesca, three with the home security detail, and the rest scattered amongst her lackeys. Now, each ring is distinguishable by its setting-- gauche, like those that wear them."
Along with the rings that major problem was the missing white oak stake.
"If they believe they can get their hands on the stake, they will come for me when I am weak. Each ring you retrieve will strengthen me, but I will still be at a disadvantage" Klaus explained how missing the stake is also crucial for the plan.
"Ergo, any hope of our success depends entirely upon our working together" Elijah looks at Scarlett "The two of you can no longer afford to retreat to separate corners." Scarlett looks over at Klaus, who sighs and stands up to look at her "This is our fight. Are you ready for battle, Scarlett?" Scarlett was more than ready to dance at the funeral of the Guerreras "Just promise me that Francesca doesn't come out of this alive." Klaus smiles weakly at her as their eyes are locked at each other "Her head will be delivered to you on a silver platter, Golden" Elijah was satisfied that everything was getting into place "I'll deal with the last piece of the puzzle."
Klaus knelt in his art room, surrounded by canvases, his body weakened as he waited for the plan to unfold.
Scarlett leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "I'll stay with you. Hayley can handle the one downstairs."
Klaus gave a slight nod. He was getting weaker by the minute, but then—suddenly—he gasped as strength surged back into him. One of the rings had been removed. He rolled his neck, a smirk forming on his lips.
Many of the Guerrera werewolves, including Oliver, invade the compound and quickly split up. Two of the werewolves head for one of the staircases, where Hayley vamp-speeds toward them and snaps both of their necks instantly. She slips each of their rings off of their fingers, and Klaus, having regained more strength, smirks and grabs his palette off of the nearby easel.
Klaus, growing stronger, smiles widely as he grabs a handful of paintbrushes off of an end table. More Guerrera werewolves stormed the compound, splitting up. Two of them entered Klaus' study, finding him kneeling weakly on the floor.
Scarlett smiled darkly, her golden eyes gleaming.
"Love fighting alongside with you Scar" Klaus quirked a brow with a smile at Scarlett as she snapped, pulling hearts of the wolves out. "Yeah me too" Scarlett replied as Klaus drags the bodies of the two werewolves they killed toward the canvas he laid on the floor, smiling as he does so. He happily dips his paintbrush into the wounds of the corpse's neck and uses his blood as paint while he works on his newest painting.
Scarlett exits the room to find Hayley but meets Elijah. "The last one is yours."
Klaus continues to paint with the blood of the werewolves he killed, as Elijah returns to the compound and joins him. "I'm still not at full strength. Which of the rings are unaccounted for?" Klaus complained as he wanted his strength back fully. "Only one. I must say, the brothers fought valiantly before Ms. Guerrera escaped" Elijah replied as Klaus turned to him and gave him a shocked and incredulous look. "You let her get away?" Klaus questioned Elijah which he simply replied "...Not exactly."
Francesca is desperately speeding down the road in her attempt to flee town before the Mikaelsons can kill her. She anxiously turns around to see if anyone is following her, but when she turns back, she sees someone standing in the middle of the road and slams on her brakes.
When Francesca finally stops, she looks up again, but it is gone. Suddenly, her car door is pulled open, and Scarlett rips her from inside the vehicle.
Scarlett has just returned home and is frantically destroying the furniture in the nursery, completely overwhelmed by her various emotions. Klaus hears the commotion and runs up to see what is going on "Hey! Hey!" Klaus tries to grab her arms to settle her down, but Scarlett backs away from him as though she's been burned. Klaus looks at her in concern and worry, but Scarlett just seems to be exhausted and disgusted by herself. "I killed her."
Scarlett is near tears as Klaus looks at her with sympathy. "Francesca looked me in the eye and begged me for her life as I tore her apart. But I don't feel better! I don't feel peace! I don't feel anything."
"It's perfectly natural given what you're experiencing--" Klaus tries his best to calm her down but she is distraught.
"Nothing about me, Nik, is natural!"
"You have gained more power and thus your vampire instincts are heightening, you know how your magic controls your supernatural status. You'll learn how to control it" Scarlett shakes her head at Klaus' words.
"I don't want to live like this, Niklaus. I hate it." She pauses for a beat "I killed a lot of people tonight before I got to Francesca. What's noble about that?" She looks at him sadly.
"Everything has changed, and not just for me." She walks toward him and looks at him with a heartbroken expression.
"I saw the way people looked at me before. And, I see the way they look at me now. I was a mother, and now I'm a monster." Klaus looks at her with sympathy, but Scarlett is in no mood to be comforted.
"Things are different now. You can't tell me that they're not" She waited for him to reply but Klaus had no words to soothe her. He could only watch as she walked out of the room..
Scarlett and Klaus sat in one of the living rooms and talk about what happened. "It will get better," Scarlett looked at him as she rested her head on his chest.
"When? I'm immortal. If I can't get through today, how am I supposed to get through forever?" Klaus sighs, unsure of what to say, and hesitates for a moment before speaking.
"You know that, over the years, I've had my share of friends, enemies, lovers, losses, and triumphs. With time, they all begin to run together. But, you will find that the real moments are vibrant. The rest... just fades away. Your pain will fade. Nothing is new for us."
Scarlett disagrees with him "No it is not the same not until I can hold my baby in my arms again" Klaus assuringly spoke up "And so you shall. But, to do that, we need to regain control of the city. Now, we work separately a lot of time. We can work together to do it again."
"After ambushing them, nobody is going to want to be our friends, Nik."
Klaus looked her in her eyes "You waged a just war on those who would harm your child. Not only will they respect you, they will answer to you."
"What about all our enemies? The witches don't stop even after they're dead. "
"We defeated my mother and her witches because we stood united."
Scarlett lifts her head to look him in his eyes.
"That is how we will face all our enemies," Klaus vowed. "As a family."
Scarlett leaned in kissing him, erasing all the gaps and distance time built between them.
It had been long. It had been brutal.
But in the end, all they needed was each other.
