9| YOU DON'T SCARE ME

"Who even are these people?" Aria spoke as she followed Rafe around the room, "Does she have cancer?"

"What?" Rafe looked back in disbelief, the woman on crutches doing the same, "Aria, you're being rude."

"Well, I have zero clue why these people are here." she spoke, leaning on the table and eyeing the two, "Who are you? The cripple and rat."

"Aria." Rafe spoke again with a crazy look her way.

"We're here for the island room." the woman said back, hobbling slightly to out reach her hand, "Carla Limbrey."

Aria didn't shake her hand, looking over at Rafe, "Well, what do you want with us?"

"It's about gold." Rafe waved her off, "Would you stop talking now?"

"The gold?" Aria head turned to the blonde woman again, "You know where it is."

"We need the island room first." she spoke, staring at the Whitlock girl, "You look like your grandmother."

Aria pulled a look of disgust, "Okay, moment ruined."

"Hey." Rafe spoke, grabbing her arm and pulling her away from the pair, "Just stop talking to them."

"Gladly, considering they think I look like my grandma." Aria spoke with a cringe, "At least I know I better stock up on some aging cream."

"It's just the nose, you don't look like her." Rafe grabbed her hand suddenly. It was a violent grab, like he was trying to hurt her but ended up just having his fingers lacing up with hers. Aria gave a odd look down at their hands, because why on earth was he holding her hand.

"What are you doing?" Wheezie spoke, watching as the four headed into the hallway.

"Jesus, go upstairs." Rafe demanded her. Wheezie rolled her eye, shoving her phone into her pocket and heading up the stairs with loud steps to show she'd been angry.

"Aw, best big bro." Aria teased Rafe, her fingers squeezing his as her gave her an annoyed look. Aria looked over her shoulder as the pair following close behind, "What room are we even looking for?"

"They don't know." Rafe spoke.

"We search the whole house."Renfield spoke for the first time, his clear annoyance for Aria seen across his face, "Is that alright with you, sweetheart?"

"Don't know." Aria gave a shrug as they walked into the office room first to look around, "Is it alright with you if I shove my foot up your ass?"

"Both of you." Rafe spoke up as he looked at the pair, "Knock it off."

"Yes, dad." Aria let his hand go as they looked around, "What are we looking for?"

"A form of map." the older woman spoke, leaning on the table and taking a breath. Aria nudged Rafe, a odd look as he gave her a reassuring one back. Aria took a painting off the wall, looking in it, doing the same with the others.

A hour later and they nearly had the entire house searched from head to toe, just the bedrooms and dining room left. Rafe latched onto Arias hand each time they finished a room, she kinda like it though. His rings were cold against her warm palms, his hand bigger then hers yet let her feel as though she'd been the one to hold his hand rather then the other way around.

"We looked all over the house. This is the last room to check out." Rafes annoyance echoed in his tone as they walked into the dining room, Aria going first as she pulling him in with her. His eyes set on the hole he punched that morning, "Well, look. Is this what you were talking about?"

Aria leaned on the wall, her arm hanging forward after not letting go of Rafes hand. Carla hobbled closer to the broken wall, looking through the hole Rafe made. Her pale hands pulled at the paper, gasping when words appeared, "Yes! That's it! That's it! This is it. All right, let's get the rest of this wallpaper off."

Rafe let go of Arias hand as they removed anything and everything off the walls, tearing at the wallpaper to get it off each wall. Rose walked in, looking around alarmed while Clara laughed, the large map filling up the walls.

"Holy shit." Rafe spoke in disbelief as he looked around. Aria looked his way a second before pulling the rest of the wallpaper off, looking up at the Parcel Nine.

"It's a church." Renfield announced as he looked up at his wall, the large white church bared before his eyes.

"We found it. We finally found it." Carla gasped happily as she smiled around at the stripped walls.

"That's so crazy." Aria spoke as she road in the passengers seat of the Range Rover, Rafe driving, "I mean, the gold goes missing and now we're getting a gold cross. It's like gold is in our veins or something."

Rafe cracked a grin over at her, following close after the large truck with Renfield and Limbrey inside, "Gold in our veins, huh?"

"I'm just saying. I mean, we're gonna be so rich." Aria spoke with a shake of her head, "Goodbye piece of shit shack on The Cut, hello mansion on Figure Eights with a fucking hot tub or something, walk in showers."

"Personal golf course." Rafe went along with her words with a nod, "Not have to deal with dumbass, old geezers."

"I still need to learn to golf." Aria nodded, "I just like stabbing stuff with the little peg."

"I'm well aware." Rafe nodded, his arm rested on the console moved slightly to try and get her attention, "I'll teach you."

"Yeah." Aria hummed, looking out the window, "We can be neighbors. But i'll have two houses because too much of you will make me wanna blow my brains out."

"Good idea." he agreed, "I couldn't handle dealing with you every day either."

Aria cracked a grin, nudging her arm against his so their hands touched, "I kinda forgot what it's like to live the Kook life again. I know I miss it though."

Rafe glanced her way, "Ar."

"Yeah?" she hummed, her head back against the leather seats.

"You know when you're dad got arrested..." he trailed off, and he realized she really didn't wanna talk about it, "I didn't wanna just up and abandon you or anything."

Aria let the grudge go a long time ago, but she still had her questions, "Then why did you?"

"Got scared." the Cameron boy said back, pretending to be paying attention to the road when in reality he was watching every move she made.

"It's not like I was gonna drag you down or anything." Aria tried to understand what he could be so scared of, "Or, like, hurt you or anything. I know you figured everything out about my family after that but-"

"No, I don't care that you're related to them or anything." he shook his head, nose scrunched in the slightest, "It didn't really seem like a big deal to me. And I could have shut everyone else up, but I didn't."

Aria pulled a odd look as she took her eyes off the window, "Then what the hell could you be scared of?"

Her whole stomach did a flip when she looked over. The sun just came up and the sky was orange, his blue eyes lighting up and the marks on his face clearer. He thought the same thing about her though. Her brown eyes looked a bit more green, her skin look glowey and golden but the scars and marks stood out more.

"I don't know." Rafe lied to her with a shrug, "Not of you, though. Just, like, everything."

Aria looked away, "You should be scared of me."

Rafe cracked a grin, "You don't scare me."

"I should." she argued, turning her head to look his way, "I could really hurt you if I wanted to."

"Yeah, but you don't want to." Rafe spoke again, turning his head from the road to look her way, "You don't scare me."

Aria gave a smirk, "Well, you don't scare me either."

"I don't wanna." he nodded, arm twitching against her skin, "Maybe a little."

"You wanna know what I think?" she spoke up, inhaling with her head rested back. Her chest rose when she did so, and he stared a second before she could catch him, "I don't think I scare you, but I think that something about me does. I think that I have a pretty heavy affect on you, though. Maybe not to scare you, but to cause something."

Aria put in perfect words what he was feeling, head turning her way. He gave a fake thinking look, a sarcastic nod before looking back at the road. His arm went under hers, Aria thought for a second he was gonna grab her hand. Instead, Rafe placed his hand on the base of her thigh. Right over the little light house, the hem of the leather shorts brushing against his palm, "You're not wrong."

Aria hummed, her thigh flexing against her hand slightly in an attempt to get him to move a little higher, "I have an idea."

"Yeah?" Rafe hummed as Aria did the same, "Let's here it."

Her entire body turned his way, "We should fuck on top of the gold when we get it."
