CHAPTER NINE—
goth, ghost, ex-bully, and failed wolf.
"Enid?" Wednesday looked around when she'd lost her friend, hearing whispers and rustles all around her. "Whoever you are, show yourself. Trying anything and you'll loose limbs."
"Surprise!" the all popped out from behind the rock with a wide smile. "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear Wednesday. Happy birthday to you."
Wednesday looked back at Thing in betrayal. "I should have known you were behind this. What part of no party under the penalty of death do you not understand?"
"Aw, don't blame Thing." Blake gushed when Thing sulked down in sadness. "He let it slip, we practically did everything else. Idea wise, because of the ghost thing."
"I thought my cake design was pretty inspired." Xavier said confidently, nodding down to the grim reaper on the top.
"The pink balloon was my little touch." Enid added in, smiling as she held the cake out more for her. "Why don't you make a wish?"
Wednesday ignored her and walked toward the little engraving on the wall. "Wait, it's latin. Fire will rain...when I rise."
"K, that's not really a wish." Enid winced as she continued to hold the cake.
"The first part of that phrase was burned into Nevermore's lawn." Wednesday got to her feet once again. "It can't be a coincidence."
"Wait, we're never eating that cake, are we?" Ajax looked around with a questionable look.
"Welcome to my world." Blake nodded her head with raised eyebrows. Wednesday head flew back as her back bent. "Wednesday!"
"What the hell is wrong with her?" Xavier gave an insane look as they all crowded her.
"Wait, don't touch her." Blake stopped Enid. "It could possibly be the early signs of a seizer."
Wednesday sat up with a gasp as she looked back at the rest of them. "What are you looking at me like that for?"
"Hey, looker." Blake greeted Xavier with a wiggle of her eyebrows, floating into his art studio as the music played. "I've been looking for you everywhere."
"Have you?" he gave her a smirk, tossing paint onto the canvas. "What have you been looking for me for?"
Blake sat down on the wooden box as he rose an eyebrow toward her, Blake only curled one finger toward herself to encourage him to come over. He tossed the paint brush down and walked her way, black and red coating his hands as he leaned down on her level with an eyebrow raised. "What is it, Blake?"
"I miss kissing you." she whispered to him like it was a secret.
"Do you?" he smiled, Blake leaned all the way back so she was laid back, Xavier hovered over her. "I thought you said-"
"I know." she cut him off and tried to push her body upwards more but her skin just passed through his. "Turns out I was the one that would hate it more."
Xavier smiled down at her. "I miss kissing you too."
He leaned down, she stopped him. "It's not gonna work."
"I know." he whispered but touched his lips onto hers. They passed just slightly but it was enough to feel the freezing feeling against his lips. Blake didn't feel anything, but watching him was enough. He pushed his hips forward against the box, looking down at her and the tight dress that she was stuck in everyday now. It was enough, pushing against the box she laid back on again and laughing nervously, Blake did too.
"Hello." Wednesday stood in the doorway, making Xavier yank away from Blake. Thing waved his fingers at Blake from the ground. "I need your help. Don't gloat."
"What, do you want some drawing lessons?" Xavier asked, turning the radio off, taking the paper she held. "Your line words a little shaky."
Thing jumped up on the box with Blake and signed at her. She gave him a look and dropped her voice to barley a whisper. "It was nothing."
He flipped her off, Blake did it back.
"I saw that in a vision. Do you recognize it?" Wednesday asked, encouraging Blake to get a look too.
"Yeah." Blake nodded, pointing toward the small drawing on the wall as Xavier leaned closer to show her.
"When did you draw this?" Wednesday looked at Xavier for an answer.
"Couple days ago." he shrugged. "I started having those dreams again, like before."
"Was the monster in them?" Wednesday questioned.
"No, but I could feel it in the shadows." he told her in response as Blake walked over to look at the drawing more too, Thing close behind her. "You know, kinda lurking in my mind."
"Do you know where this is?" she asked. "Blake?"
"It's the Gates mansion." she nodded her head. "It's not far from the school, it's actually on the same grounds. I use to go but I got lost in the woods too many times."
"But, you know the way?" she gave her a raised eyebrow, smacking her in the face so her hand passed right through. Blake nodded. "Good, then you come with me."
"Where?" Blake frowned her eyebrows as she followed her.
"To tells me directors so I can write them down on Things hand." she said in return.
"Bye, lover." Blake blew a kiss toward Xavier and made sure to walk away with more of a sway then usual, leaving him to laugh and exhale, focusing back on the painting before him.
"Ghost Girl." Wednesday found Blake in the library, staring at her blankly. "I need you again."
"Seems like a recurring statement." Blake smiled, raising an eyebrow as she stood up. "What can I accompany you with?"
Wednesday glared at Kent, who was flipping Blake's magazine pages for her, hurrying away to leave the girls. "Tonight, you will go to the Gates mansion and wait for us to arrive."
"Us?" Blake asked as Wednesday rose an eyebrow. "Why are we going there?"
"For my birthday." she stared at her. "Don't tell anyone else. I will know and break your ghost arms."
Blake gave a tight lipped smile. "Got it."
Wednesday turned on her heels and left, leaving Blake to hurry and make an excuse for Xavier before she floated through the woods, despite it being a fear of hers. The furs were out that night, floating above the trees to avoid seeing them despite hearing them below her. Blake went faster till she made it to the gates, hoping Wednesday had a plan on how to get her back considering she had no clue herself.
The sound of the gate opening made her look over when she landed, Wednesday walking over with Enid and Tyler behind her. Blake's face fell. "This is your birthday company?"
"Blake, I had no clue you were coming." Enid smiled. "Wednesday invited you?"
"Yeah, and I still don't know why?" Blake looked to her new found friend with curious eyes.
Wednesday gave her a blank look. "A ghost in an abandoned mansion is what I have always wanted for my birthday."
Blake pursed her lips and nodded. "Noted, consider it done."
The four walked to the door as Wednesday yanked on it, not doing anything as Tyler stepped forward. "Here, let me try."
He tried as well, the door moving but not coming open one bit. Blake looked at Enid hopefully as she nodded her head. "Can I try?"
Wednesday took her flashlight as Enid gave a few yanked before it was yanked open, Tyler gaped. "Woah."
"It's a werewolf thing." she shrugged back and walked in after Wednesday, leaving Tyler and Blake.
"It's nice to see you again." he said awkwardly with a tight lipped smile. "Are you still upset about the-"
"Yes." Blake cut him off, nodding for him to go in. "After you."
"I'm not friends with those guys anymore." Tyler looked over his shoulder as he walked in first. "They're the worst, I really don't talk to any of them."
"Well, that's good you've come to your senses." Blake nodded her head as she looked around the mansion. "But, it doesn't change what happened. You really upset Xavier, he worked hard on that mural."
"I know, i'm sorry." Tyler frowned. "Wednesday talks about you all the time."
Blake was taken back, staring at him. "She does?"
"Yeah, she thinks it's the best thing ever that you're dead." he shined his flashlight in her face and shrugged. "I'm guess it's not so great for you though, huh?"
Blake frowned as she looked down. "No, it's not."
"At least you can still see the people the love, and they can still talk and see you everyday." there was a hint of sadness in his tone, Blake caught it as she saw it linger in his eyes too. "Not everyone else can be so lucky."
"Blake, Tyler!" Enid called. "Come on."
