โ•ฐโ”ˆหš ยท ยฐ . ย ย THE ONLY WAI I EFFECTIVELY ย got Alec to leave me alone for one night was for a slumber party that we were having at Allison's houseโ€” or more so spending the entire evening on our homeworksโ€” and still, that had been quite a fight.

Sebastian was the first that fell asleep, his head lolled back, a book resting on his lap as sat in an armchair in the Argent's girl room. Allison then quickly followed by Lydia. Books, pens and notebooks all surrounded them as they fell into a deep slumber.

And still, when the clock signaled midnight, no sleep came to me, only too painful memories. And fortunately, to stop my mind from wandering too far away into the rabbit hole, there was my phone that pinged with an incoming message. I almost snorted out loud whenever I saw the new contact name that I saved Scott's number under. I mean, it fit him, so...

Wanna have a midnight stroll

into the woods to search for a dead body?

๐–๐š๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐œ๐ก

Sure, why not.

I mean, I did not have anything better to do anyway.

I quickly changed out of my pajamas, closed all the books and placed a blanket on each of my friends before sneaking out of the room.

"Going somewhere?" The voice of Chris Argent caught me completely by surprise that I jumped, putting my back against the wall as I tried to calm my racing heartbeats.

"I think I almost died." I managed to say. "And... no?" The men looked at me, from my boots, to the jeans and leather jacket that definitely was not my nightwear, raising a single eyebrow in my direction daring me to lie. "Maybe?" Not impressed, Chris Argent crossed the arms on his chest. "Fine, I might be going into the woods to search for a dead body."

"A dead body?"

"Don't look at me like that, Scott asked, it's literally my duty as the witch connected to him and the pack to help him." I nodded my head multiple times, dramatically patting my left bicep where the tattoo-mark was hidden underneath the leather jacket and the sleeve of my graphic crop top.

"And?"

I narrowed my eyes on the man before finally exhaling out a breath of defeat, "I might be having some serious nightmares and I don't really wanna go to sleep."

"Alright." He simply said, opening the front door for me. But before I could take a step outside he stopped me with a hand on my shoulder. "Be careful."

It was something so simple, and still, it strung a cord deep inside my heart. If it had been another moment, another person maybe I would have just replied with a sarcastic comment or a simple glare, but instead, I gave him a sincere smile as my eyes softened.

"I will." I said before closing the front door behind me with a sad smile.

I missed my father.

โ•ฐโ”ˆหš ยท ยฐ . ย "Soโ€“" I started once we entered the Beacon Hills Preserve, "Your father, Stiles, thinks that an accident that happened eight years ago was caused by a werewolf."

"Yes, and one of the girls' bodies, Malia, is still missing. And we are going to search for her." Stiles explained with a nod of his head.

"More like Scott and I." I said pointedly, tapping my nose with my index finger.

"Whatever." The boy scoffed.

"You, Scott and Allison literally have a door open in your mind and we are searching for the body of a little girl who was killed eight years ago. An opening to whatever that is causing me to have very detailed nightmares of my dying family by the way."

"You did the spell, Lizzie. Meaning you did something wrong to create that open door. Do I have to remind you that again?" Stiles asked, snarking his question in my direction.

"And like I said, it's not my fault. I did everything that the instruction told me to do."

"We are doing this for Stiles' father. One more resolved case before mine makes him lose the job." With clear distaste Scott said the last phrase.

"The father of the year." I commented sarcastically earning a snort from the Alpha.

"That's him."

"You know, if my dad's right, that means there's another werewolf in town

that we haven't met yet." Stiles said then.

"I know."

"There are probably dozens of werewolves or other supernatural creatures in this town that we don't know." I pointed out.

"If it turns out to be something like triplets that form into, like, a three-headed hound of hell, I'm seriously not up for that."

"Definitely count me out from that."

"Yeah. Me either." Scott replied as he followed the map on his phone to where the car of the accident still was even after all these years. "Especially if I can't even control my own transformation anymore."

A howl echoed through the forest, different from the one of a wolf.

Stiles jumped at the sound, grabbing with each hand mine and Scott's shoulder, but the unexpected touch made the McCall boy's phone fall out from his hand, rolling down the small hill until it landed in a puddle of water.

"Sorry, buddy. I hate coyotes so much. They always sound like they're mauling some tiny, helpless little animal." Stiles said, shuddering only at the thought.

"Take your hand off me Stilinski." I grimaced at his touch.

"Right, sorry." Stiles did as I told him to do, awkwardly cleared his throat.

Scott was the first to jump down, retrieving his phone and cleaning the screen with the sleeve of his jacket. I followed behind the True Alpha, easily making the descent and landing swiftly next to him. When I turned back to look at Stiles, he had a contemplating look on his face.

"Do you need me to pick you up and carry you down?" I asked with an amused grin staring at the boy with a quirked upwards eyebrow.

The boy scoffed, proceeding to carefully step down until he slipped on the stone and glided down quite ungracefully. He shook the dirt off his clothes before pointing his finger in my direction. "Don't say a word."

I raised my hands up, still looking quite amused, with a grin shining on my lips.

"It still works." Scott told us pointing at his phone.

"Let me see the flashlight." Suddenly Stiles said, taking the torch in his hand, shining it down the path. "I think we found it."

And just further down, there was the relic of a car, turned upside down, with dirt, foliages and branches to slightly cover it.

"Uh... Why wouldn't they move it? Isn't it evidence?" Scott asked as we approached it.

"Probably too much of a pain in the ass to tow out." Stiles replied. And then, he scanned the car with the help of the flashlight to light the way, finding a particular detail. Four scratches marked the metal of the car. "Look at this. See those? Animal claws would be closer together, right? A lot closer."

"Then it was a werewolf." Scott stated.

"And a homicidal one at that." I added with a shake of my head.

"So, my dad was right."

To check out the inside of the car better we all crouched down, the flashlight helping us to see without the usage of our werewolf glowing eyes.

"What is that?" Scott pointed.

Stiles took the object, a very old doll, with disassembled limbs and a bald head. Accidentally pressing on it, the doll unexpectedly let out words.

"I'm hungry." it said with its electronic voice making us all jump away in fright.

"I think I just had a minor heart attack." Stiles commented as breathed the fear.

"Same." I sighed out, my hands resting on my thighs as I tried to breathe once again properly. "That was so creepy, oh my god."

With a slight chuckle, Scott nodded, his hand still on his rapidly beating heart.

And then, with the heightened hearing that between us three only Scott and I had, we clearly heard a growl.

"Hey, guys... Please tell me you see that."

"You are not the only one seeing it." I said as I looked at the coyote before us, growling and baring its teeth.

"I see it. too."

Once the animal started to run away, the alpha was quick to follow. "Wait, hey, Scott! Scott, wait!"

"Where the hell are you going?!" I shouted with wide eyes.

"Go after him, Lizzie?!" Stiles yelled, shoving my shoulder.

"I'm not leaving you alone in the woods defenseless with a rabid animal around!" I snapped.

"I'm not that defenseless." He said, looking quite affronted at what I had said, adding a dramatic gasp to his words.

"You don't even have your bat." I pointed out. Not that it would help anyway.

"You- you are insufferable."

I smirked with the addition of a chuckle. "You know who will be insufferable? Alec when I tell him that I ditched the slumber party with the others to search for a dead body in the woods in the middle of the night without him."

With a snort, Stiles nodded his head. "We are not going to hear the end of that for sure."

I shoved his shoulder lightly, taking the flashlight in my hand. "Let's go and search for Scott, come on."

Searching for Scott had been easy by following his scent, but nevertheless, when we met him as he ran straight in our direction, he still took us by surprise, loud screams falling from all of our lips.

"Gods, what the fuck! I am so cursing myself for coming with you two idiots!" I shouted as I once again, for the third time that night, tried to calm my racing heart.

"No one forced you Elizabeth." Stiles scoffed, his hands both placed on his hips as he spoke my name with distaste.

"Well if it wasn't for me you would have for sure lost yourself in this forest."

"Wrong."

"Are you two done?" Scott asked, snapping our focus back to him.

Stiles held a finger up to him as if to say 'wait a second' "I really hate you."

"The feeling is mutual." I scoffed my reply.

"Bitch."

"Dickehead."

"Okay, okay... let's calm down." Scott put a hand on both our chests. I glanced down, the single sign that made the Alpha quickly removed it.

"We found something."

"So did I."

We walked back to the place we discovered when we searched for Scott, a small cave, hidden between big rocks.

"It's a coyote den." Stiles said as he shined the flashlight beam all around the space.

"Werecoyote." Scott mumbled. Apparently the coyote that he had run after was actually Mailia, the girl whose body was never found.

"You see this? This is Malia's. Remember, it's the same one she was wearing in the photo." The son of the sheriff explained as showed us a blue jacket.

"We shouldn't be in here." Scott said after a second of looking around.

"What do you mean?"

"She's not going to come back now. We just invaded her home. Our scent's going to be everywhere."

Nodding my head with sigh, I added, "Our very wolf scent that coyotes hate."

"If she's not going to come back here, where's she going to go?" Stiles wondered.

"I don't know."

"Can you track her now? You think you got her scent?"

"Maybe. But I'm better at this when I'm a full wolf. And I'm still worried

that if I do it, I won't be able to turn back."

With a sigh then Stiles said what we were all thinking, "The door's still open."

"And I don't have her scent to track her and with what is in here I can't do a locator spell." I shook my head as I tried to leave the preoccupation out of my voice to what I had to say next. "If I can't get to Derek, we're gonna have to find someone else to help." He still had answer any of my texts or calls for almost a week. Peter too. I was actually debating if I had to do a locating spell for them too at that point.

"This is basically a crime scene, right? I think it might be a little

out of my boss's league..."

"And more in my dad's." Stiles concluded what Scott had trailed off.

After calling the Sheriff department that showed up twenty minutes later, we waited outside, still with the night sky above, as Stiles' dad searched the den.

"You're sure it was her?" Noah Stilinski asked as he approached us teenagers.

"I looked her right in the eyes. And they glowed just like mine." Scott replied, sure what he had seen.

"It makes sense dad."

"But it wasn't a girl. It was a four-legged coyote, right?" The Sheriff asked, confused by all the supernatural. He was still trying to grasp everything that had happened in the previous year and months. Everything that was real and not just fiction.

"Well, okay. But yeah, see, that's the point that we don't exactly have figured out yet."

"I mean Alec can change into a full wolf." I shrugged my shoulders.

"If I remember correctly, Alec does not follow the same rule of normal werewolves because he comes from the line of a werewolf that was cursed by a witch. One of your ancestors, Elizabeth. I'm pretty sure no one in your family cursed a nine year old girl. " Sheriff Stilinki said, arms crossed on his chest.

"I mean I don't think so." I shrugged my shoulders again. "And it's very rare, but werewolves can shapeshift fully into wolves."

"Isn't the Hale family the only one who had this rare gift of fully shapeshifting?" The Sheriff asked even more confused.

"No but- I mean yes, recently at least-"

"Okay, but if it was a full moon and she did change while her mom was driving, then anything could've happened." Scott told the adult interrupting me.

"Horrible things could've happened." I said with a nod and pursed lips.

"Ripping, shredding, tearing things." Stiles listed.

"Which is probably what caused the accident." Scott finished.

"Think about it, dad, all right. They're driving, Malia starts to change, she goes out of control, the mom crashes and everybody dies... She blames herself, all right, goes off running into the woods and eventually becomes trapped inside the body of a coyote."

"That makes sense." The Sheriff said, making us all let out a sigh of relief. But our feeling of accomplishment dimmed when he continued. "In a Chinese folktale. Guys, this is... This is insane. I need this kept quiet. The three of you, not a word. I don't want anyone hearing about this. I especially don't want Mr. Tate hearing about this."

But then I noticed the far away look that the Alpha had in his eyes as he stared away "Scott? Scott!" I jammed my elbow lightly in his rib making him snap from whatever hallucination he was currently having.

"Sorry." He cleared his throat. "What did you say?"

Another cruiser arrived at the scene, this one having Agent McCallโ€“Scott's dadโ€“ and Mr. Tateโ€” Malia's dad.

"Oh, hell." The Sheriff cursed under his breath at the sigh of the two. "Mr. Tate." He titled his head in acknowledgement.

"It's hers." The man said with a tear filled eyes and distress coated tone.

"All right, wait here." Agent McCall commanded the rest of us.

"Dad." Scott tried to talk with him only to be interrupted by the man.

"I'll talk to you in a minute. I wouldn't mind hearing how your mom's okay with you running around in the woods this late." His stern eyes narrowed down on me then after berating his own son.

I raised my hands up with a grin. "Mine is dead."

"You still have a grandmother, Miss Hale."

When he was gone I leaned slightly towards Scott mumbling. "Your father is an asshole."

ย "Are you going to say something?" I asked out loud to my boyfriendโ€” who did not utter a word to me since he discovered about my night stroll into the woods with Stiles and Scottโ€” as we walked towards the entrance of the school. "Alec, please."

His body was coiled tight with anger, muscle straining underneath his black shirt shirt that hugged tightly his upper body.

I tugged his arm making him stop in his tracks, his gorgeous brown eyes darker than normal evaded mine. "It wasn't planned. The others had all fallen asleep and I was not tiredโ€“" I stopped myself from delivering the lie, deciding to just go with the unfiltered truth. "I did not want to sleep and had to go back there. It was probably the first night of full sleep that you had in two weeks because you are always there for me when I wake up from the nightmares. You are there with me, staying up for hours until I can go back to sleep. You are probably sleeping even less than me because I know that you are too worried so you stay up making sure that I'm actually sleeping. I did not want to sleep but you needed it, okay. And I needed a distraction, please understand that."

"You could have sent me a message at least, but no, Allison did because you weren't at her house when she woke up and she was worried about you. But you weren't with me and you weren't answering any of my calls or messages. So no, Elizabeth, I didn't sleep because I was too worried about you. " He snapped, chest heaving up and down as he breathed heavily through his anger.

"My phone was dead!" I yelled in retaliation before calming down with a sigh. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you worry. I wasn't thinking."

"You certainly didn't." He scoffed. His voice was tinged with his italian accent making it sound even rougher, "Fortunately Scott answered my messages before I went on a rampage. I barely kept myself from shifting into my wolf and hunting your scent down!"

My heart skipped a beat at his words. "You can't say things like that!" I yelled trying to hide the flush in my cheeks with anger. Apparently not good enough as his rage simmered down when he noticed it, a grin spreading on his lips that I was sure he was trying to contain.

"Are you really blushing right now?" He asked, trying to sound still as angry as he previously had been.

"Shut up!" I glared, having all the intent of walking away from this conversation with still a bit of my pride intact.

I mean, he could not say things like that. Going on a killing rampage and hunt me down because he was that worried?

His laugh, so carefree, boomed at my back. He laughed without restraint, so hard that he held his hand on his abdomen. It melted my heart as much as it enraged me how much I loved it. With a grin that most would describe as unhinged, Alec stalked towards me where I had stopped after taking only a couple of steps. He wrapped an arm around me, placing it on my shoulder as he brought me closer to him until he could nuzzle his nose on my cheek.

"Quanto cazzo ti amo." He said amusedly through his grin, eyes alight with mischief. [I fucking love you.] He laughed again at how my cheeks ablaze. The Italian words falling from his lips rekindled my blush. "I love the way you blush when I talk in italian. You don't even know what I'm saying and still you are a blushing mess."

"I swear, I'm going to learn it one day." I mumbled, melting in his embrace.

"Nope. I forbid you from doing that." He shook his head jokingly.

"Just wait."ย
