"You got everything?" Breton was standing at my door.
"Yep." I zipped up by luggage and make my way down.
"I'll help you with that."
"Thanks."
"Just remember, if you need anything-"
"I'll call you. Again, thanks for everything." And I went in for a hug.
"I really hope you find the answers you need."
"Me too."
And we heard the car horn.
"That's my cue."
"Stay safe."
Efren stepped out of the car and put my luggage into the car trunk. I opened the back door and saw that Nicandro was already sitting inside.
"Hey."
"Hi."
"You okay?"
"I've been better."
This was awkward. I mean, how am I suppose to act in front of the prince of Spain? Should I address him as your highness or something?
"This is why I didn't tell you, besides the fact that you might expose me. I know I'm the prince of Spain, but I'm still a regular guy."
"Being a prince does not make you regular." I snorted.
"I'm still a human being."
"A human being with a royal title."
Then there was silence. I even saw Efren looking at us in the review mirror.
"I'm-I'm sorry, okay? I haven't had the time to process everything yet. Two weeks ago I was a nobody, an orphan living in the streets. Since then, my best friend was killed, I've been to two countries, found out my parents were drug lords, had multiple people tried to kill me, been captured, escaped from a bomb, made a new friend who died a few days ago and now I'm sitting in a car with a prince and going against a drug lord who apparently killed my parents."
I let out my breath I didn't know I was holding. That felt a little better, to let everything out.
I felt something warm on my hand. I looked and I saw that Nicandro has placed his hands on top on my hand. That sent warmth all the way to my heart, making me feel ten times better.
"No normal person can go through all of that in the span of two weeks and still persevere on. You're much stronger than a normal person."
"Thank you, your-"
"You address me by my name. And that's not a request." I can see a smirk forming on his face.
"As you wish, Nicandro." I couldn't help but smile a little.
After an hour, the plane took off with me still kind of freaking out being on a private plane for the first time. Although it does feel kind of weird that I'm on a private plane right now, as my parents were killed when they were on their own private plane. The reassuring thing here is that the prince of Spain is on the plane with me, so I can feel secured that I won't fall into the ocean, I would drown cause I don't know how to swim.
"Would like anything to drink?" An air stewardess asked me.
"Just water will be fine." She nodded and walked away.
Less than a minute later she returned with a glass of water in her hands.
"Nice to see you're already getting comfortable." Nicandro said as he came out from the washroom.
"I'm on a private plane, of course I'm comfortable." I chuckled.
"Where are you staying?"
"Some cheap hotel." I shrugged.
"Not happening on my watch." He took a seat on the couch beside me.
"You expect me to stay with you in the castle?"
"Actually I stay in a private house, it's nearer to my school."
"I totally forgot school even existed for a minute."
"Wish I can forget about it, I have lessons tomorrow. Sadly I can't skip it as I already missed a week of school. So you'll stay with me in the meantime."
"I sense that's not something up for debate." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"It's not." And he took my glass of water which was sitting on the table in front of us, taking a sip.
"That's mine." I deadpanned.
Nicandro's eyes widened and slowly set the glass of water back on the table.
"You guys just kissed indirectly." Efren said, he was sitting at the corner.
"Mind your own business, Efren." Nicandro said through his teeth, I could also see his cheeks turning pink.
"Right. My apologies, your highness." He cleared his throat.
I rolled my eyes and face Nicandro again, "So you're going to help me track down felon?"
"I'll ask the detectives taking the investigation about it, doubtful they'll give us promising answers. I suspect whoever tanked the investigation is most likely working with or for felon."
"I think so too, and that can lead us directly to felon." I agreed.
I spent the remaining time of the flight reading this book that Breton gave me, called suicide notes from beautiful girls. After landing, we went by another way through the airport security to avoid paparazzis which took us less than five minutes before we got in the car going to the private house.
The gates opened to the house and I was in awe. This shouldn't even be called a house. It is a mansion. It's mostly covered in beige colour, with some dark blue colours for the roof. There're many small water fountains surrounding of what looks like a monument of some sort.
I notice there was a man standing outside the door and I saw Nicandro stiffened at the sight of him. Even Efren shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
The car stopped in front of the 'house' and before I could open the door, Efren had already got out of the car and opened the door for me.
"Thanks." I murmured to him as I stepped out.
I saw Nicandro already talking to the man who was standing outside the door.
"I hope you've enjoyed your trip, your highness. Your grandfather expects you to-" He stopped talking when he saw me.
"Who are you?" He glared at me.
"Um I-"
"She's with me." Nicandro said, raising his voice a little.
"I don't mean to offend you, your highness, but if she's just some girl you brought back wherever you came from just for your own entertainment, might I suggest you-" Excuse you? If he didn't work for the royal family, I would've slapped him.
"I don't think I need to repeat myself, I said she's with me." Nicandro shot back.
"Apologies, your highness." He bend his head low.
"Whatever my grandfather asked you to do, come back tomorrow after school. I'm tired and not in a mood, Dante."
"Of course, your highness." And he walked to another car parked in the corner.
"Who is he?" I asked, the anger within me had not completely dissolved yet.
"He's my grandfather adviser for me. Everyone in my family who's above eighteen has an adviser from my grandfather to help assist with their duties. He's my adviser."
"Oh, he's seems like..."
"An asshole? Yeah, I know."
I almost got startled when he phone rang. He took it out of his pocket and sighed.
"Ive got to take this. Leya here will show you to your room."
With that, he put the phone to his ear and walked away. I noticed a young women standing near the pillar as she walked towards me.
"Follow me Miss, I'll show you to your room." She said politely.
I nodded and followed her and she walked up the flight of stairs. Efren was walking behind me and carrying my luggage. As we were walking along the hallway, there were many silver table cabinet with many small nicknacks placed on top of it. Note to self: try not to break anything. There were also quite a number of paints hung on the wall with gold frames and ancient lightbulbs built onto the walls.
Leya stopped walking and opened the door, my jaw literally dropped. This room itself could be considered the size of an apartment. The room itself is mostly white, with a huge window to allow sunlight in and an enormous bed. There are also couches and coffee table near the window.
"If you need anything, just press the button here and I'll be here." She pointed to a white button near to the door.
"Okay..." I said softly, clearly still in shock.
"I'll leave you to it, dinner will be ready in two hours."
And the door closed. I was too busy staring at everything that I did not realised Efren had put my luggage beside the bed. Well it's my bed for the time being...
I walked towards the white door beside my bed which leads to the bathroom. Everything in there looks so shiny I feel as if I might slip if I step inside. There's also an opaque glass door near the fireplace which leads to the closet. It is mostly empty, but there're some coats, shoes, hats, pants already filled up.
I let out a laugh and cover my mouth with my hands.
"This is insane."
