T H I R T Y - T W O
There was a knock on my door.
I looked up from my homework to see Nikita standing at the door. I immediately noticed her puffy eyes and red nose.
"Bad day at work?" I asked with concern.
"No." She sniffed and sat beside me on my bed.
"Then what is it?"
"You know the past week I've had trouble breathing."
I nodded, "It's your asthma."
"But my inhaler hasn't been working so I went to the hospital and they told me it wasn't asthma."
A tear rolled down her cheeks and I held her hand tightly.
"It's cancer." She finished.
I've heard that word in school before, it's a deadly disease and there's a small percentage of surviving it. I looked at her speechless.
"I knew it was almost time, both my mother and grandmother had it when they were around fifty. This is the reason why I didn't have children of my own." I can hear the lump in her throat as she talks.
Tears started coming out and she pulled me into a hug. This isn't happening right now. She can't leave me. I would have no one.
"Please don't die." I sobbed.
"I don't have a choice in that, sweetie." She cried.
"You can't leave me."
"I'll never leave you. Even when I'm gone, I'll always be watch over you."
"I love you." I hugged her tighter.
"I love you too."
I opened my eyes and found myself in a room. The room is very dusty, the white paint on the wall had turned brown and there were also stains on the wall which looked like blood. I don't want to wonder who was in this room before me. There were four small holes at the corners of the wall to allow sunlight in. The only way out of this room is the wooden door. I was lying on a mattress and tried to sit up but felt my head spinning so lied down again.
Went back to the suite. A masked man attacked me. Felt something hit my head.
This must be where the masked men took me. I rolled to my side and touched the back of my head, I flinched in contact. It bloody hurts. After much effort, I managed to sit up straight and saw a glass of water near the door. I took it and drank the whole thing within seconds.
Where am I? How long has it been since I was knocked out? Who kidnapped me?
I peeked under the door to try to find any clue as to where am I but I only saw a hallway of at least ten more doors. I sighed in defeat and went back to lie down on the mattress.
Are there other people here? Of course, this is where they torture people to extract information. Are they going to kill me? Most likely.
I must have been staring at the wall for about an hour, watching the sunlight fade as the sun sets. Suddenly, the door opened and two Spanish men walked in and saw that I was not unconscious anymore. They something in Spanish to each other and then grabbed my arms, walking out of the room. We walked all the way to the end of the hallway which is a metal door instead of a wooden one. One of the men put his finger on the scanner and the door opened.
It revealed to be another room where there's a table and two chairs which are opposite each other. There a light bulb attached to each corner of the wall which gives the room light as there are no windows. The two men let go of my arms and gestured me sit down. I noticed a door on my right and whoever we're waiting for must be walking through that.
Could it be felon? Meeting the person responsible for my parents death after all this time gives me a shiver down my back.
Just then, the door opened and a man wearing a grey suit walked through it. Why does it look a little familiar? He's definitely Spanish, with a very distinctive burnt mark on his neck, travelling all the way up to his cheek. My eyes widened in surprised when I remembered who he is.
Luis.
He's alive. He survived the bomb.
"Glad to see you still remember me." Luis pulled out the chair and took a seat in front of me.
"So you're here to kill me."
"My boss says some information needed to be extracted out of you and I volunteered." Felon.
"I don't have any information that you need. I'm an orphan, a nobody."
"A nobody who has been hanging out with the prince of Spain." He spits.
"How did you guys find me?"
"Your dear friend Zen, god rests his soul." Zen is dead...
He must have found some amusement to my shocked face and started laughing. I wanted to punch him right there but I know if I do, those two men behind me will do much worse things to me.
"We found him two days after the bombing and killed him. Took his phone just in case you contacted him. Which you did that narrows down our search of you down to Madrid. Then there's been this huge gossip about the prince bringing a date to a party who is Asian and my gut says that it's you."
"What about the guy in Palencia?"
"You were in Palencia before you were in Madrid?"
He doesn't know about the person that tried to kill me in Palencia? Did Nicandro lied to me that the person was there to kill him and not me? Who does that person work for?
He ignored my comment and jump into the questions, "How long were you and Zen working together?" The what now?
"Working together?" I asked to confirm the question.
"Yes, how long did you guys take to plan this whole thing?" He was getting irritated.
"We didn't work together."
"Stop lying. Or I'll find a more effective way." He took out a knife from his pocket and placed it on the table.
"I wasn't done talking." I snapped.
"Continue." He growled.
"Zen had wanted to get his justice when you shot his finance when she accidentally saw you and your men shooting other people."
"So you and your friend just happened to be there. Too bad the both of you didn't make it." Now I really want to punch him.
Breathe in, breathe out. "What did you do with his body?"
"Burnt it to ashes along with the men who died in the explosion." He shrugged.
I took a sip of water while gripping the glass tightly. I need something to exert my anger on.
"Why did you kill my best friend?" I said through my teeth.
"You do remember that Zen is the one who had the bomb right? Or that concussion is getting worse?"
"I meant Zari."
"Who?"
"Alley way. A woman killed her."
He let out a laugh, "No women works for felon."
So that means felon didn't kill Zari? Who did then? Is it the same person that was responsible for trying to kill me in Palencia? Wait... does it mean felon also doesn't know my real identity? Ugh, so many questions.
"Anyway, let's talk about the prince now. Has he told you anything that we can use again his family?" Felon's unknown grudge towards the family.
"He didn't tell me anything." I wasn't exactly lying either.
"Have it your way then." He signaled the two men behind me to hurt but they didn't move at all. That's when I realised something.
"Are you guys blind?" Luis raised his voice.
I chuckled, "Wow."
"Is something funny?" He glared at me.
"No one here is going to hurt me. Because they take orders from felon, not from you." I answered him.
"Why wouldn't felon want to hurt you?"
"What? You think he kept me alive just to question me about me working with Zen? He could've just have me killed me and that's it. He even patched up my head and let me sleep on a mattress. He's smart, he wants something more."
"Get to the damn point." He rolled his eyes.
"He wants to put me up for ransom to the prince."
