"And finally, the garden," you said, stopping at the entrance to the garden. "And that's the end of the tour."
You turned to glance back at Kou, who hadn't taken his eyes off of you since you had entered the office, and part of you wouldn't be surprised if he had been too focused on you to remember anything about the actual tour.
"Thank you-"
"Now tell me," you narrowed your eyes at him. "Why did you insist on me giving you the tour?" Kou chuckled nervously.
"Well, I just wanted to say sorry f-for making you mad earlier and um-"
"Oh, speaking of earlier!" You said, completely disregarding his apology as you reached to grab his hand, and the hearts in the boys' eyes were almost visible as you did so. You lifted his hand, letting out a thoughtful hum when you saw the burns on his hands.
"Just as I thought," you muttered, glaring up at him. "You were holding your staff wrong. Do you even know what you're doing?" Kou quickly snatched his hand back.
"I-I know what I'm-" Ignoring his arguments, you looked at the clock to see that school was almost over and after-school activities would be starting soon.
'I'd normally be on my way to see Hanako by now,' you thought before turning back to Kou. 'He can wait a bit.' You shrugged before holding our hand out.
"Let me see your staff." Kou titled his head in confusion, and you rolled your eyes before reaching out and grabbing it from his belt.
"What are you-"
"Do you wanna keep burning your hands or not?" You asked, and Kou shook his head. "That's what I thought." You gripped the staff, switching it from one hand to another and swinging it around a few times as you got used to its weight. "So I'm going to show you how to use it correctly."
"Do you get it now?" You asked as you watched Kou swing the staff around as he tried to get out of the habit of holding it wrong.
"Yeah, this feels much better now," he grinned. "Thanks a lot, Y/n!"
"Oh, and one more thing." You took the staff from him once more and took out a seal.
"This is to make sure you don't hurt yourself anymore," you said, slapping the seal on it.
"What the hell, Y/n!" Kou snatched it from your hand, desperately trying to remove the paper to no avail.
"It's going to take a while for you to get out of the habit of holding it wrong, so to make sure you don't hurt yourself, I put that seal on it. You're welcome." The sound of laughing caught your attention, and you turned to see groups of students walking out of the school. You looked back at the old building.
'I guess I won't be able to meet Hanako today after all.' You sighed. 'I guess It's fine. I can just visit him tomorrow.'
"Well, I should be heading home now," you said, grabbing your bag and opening the gate to the garden.
"Wait!" Your eyes widened when Kou ran around you and stopped in front of you. "Please let me walk you home to thank you for helping me!" You stared at him for a moment and couldn't help but give a small smile.
"Sure."
"Yes!" Kou cheered, and you chuckled lightly.
"Alright, let's-" A sudden chill ran down your spine, going from your head to your toes.
You grabbed your staff, swinging it as you turned around ready to attack whatever it was only to find that nothing was there. You looked around for a moment, trying to spot whatever caused the disturbance.
"Hey, are you coming?" You glanced behind you to see Kou was now waiting by the school gates. You turned to look around one more time before sighing.
'Maybe it was just nothing.'
You shrugged before rushing to catch up to him.
"Yeah, sorry about that," you said turning around just in time to miss Haku-Joudai appear behind you and fly up to the old building.
You yawned as you entered the school gates.
'Why did I think this was a good idea?'
"Hey, Y/n!" You turned to see Yuki enter through the gates and rush towards you. "What are you doing here so early?"
"Oh, I came to study," you lied. "Since I came in the middle of the year, it's a bit hard to catch up. Why are you here?"
"Oh, my moms a teacher and likes to come to work early, so I don't really have a choice," he shrugged as you two entered the school.
"Y/n," he said, just as you were about to head to the old building. "If you're having trouble with your work, I can study with you if you want."
As much as you wanted to decline and keep your promise to Hanako, you actually were having a bit of trouble with the work. You checked your watch.
'I have a few hours before first period. I can just study one subject with him and then visit Hanako afterward,' you thought before turning to nod at Yuki.
"Sure," you agreed, seemingly to his surprise. "Let's go to the cafeteria."
Hanako clenched his fists as Haku-joudai told him that you were leaving him to go study with some boy. The rage of that and seeing spend all your time with Kou the other day slowly building up.
'It's happening again...She's going to forget about me.'
A sudden idea came to his head, and a smirk made its way onto his face.
"I won't let her," he muttered, gripping his knife tightly. "I'll just have to make sure the past doesn't repeat itself."
"And that's how you find the Y," Yuki explained. "Do you think you've got it now?"
The two of you intended to work on at least two subjects, but you ended up spending the entire time working on your math. You looked over the work for a minute before slowly nodding.
"Yeah...I think I get it now. Thank you so much," you said, and Yuki blushed.
"I-it was no problem!" He stuttered, and you checked the time.
'I still have time to see Hanako!'
You rushed to gather your books.
"I have to go! Thank you for the help!"
You dashed off before Yuki could question you and rushed to the old building. You turned the corner only to gasp as you crashed into something hard, making you drop all of your things.
"Sorry about that," you said, gathering your stuff.
"Here." You looked up to see a woman with green hair and green eyes holding one of your books out to you.
"Thanks." You grabbed the book before moving to run off again.
"Are you interested in the seven wonders?" You stopped and glanced back at her, preparing to say no until you remembered that Hanako was one of them.
"Um, yeah...I guess," you said awkwardly. She hummed thoughtfully.
"You work with Hanako, right? That cat-like kid?" You turned to face her fully.
"What do you mean cat-like, and how do you know about him?"
"When I say he's cat-like, I mean he's strong-willed, selfish, and needy, isn't that how you'd describe him?" You slowly shook your head.
"No...I've never seen him act like that." Another thoughtful hum came from the woman.
"You will," she said as she walked away. "But if you want to know more about him, then you should visit the fifth of the seven wonders." Her voice was almost hypnotic, and you hadn't even realized she had turned the corner until she was out of sight.
"Hold on!" You rushed after her, turning the corner only to see the hallway was now empty.
"What the-" The sound of the bell ringing made you jump, and you stood there trying to process her words as students began to fill the hall.
'Selfish? Hanako's not selfish. But then again, do I even know enough about him to be sure of that?'
You were so deep in thought that you didn't notice the small black paper crane flying into the front pocket of your bag.
