"no, i'm just saying, aera," kevin heaves out a tired breath, shaking his head, "we don't have to fight over this right now. let's talk later," he grabs his keys, sending a forced smile towards her as she stands still in front of their room, still in her loose t-shirt and shorts, hair up into a messy bun for she hasn't showered yet. and despite it being early morning, this particular thing had to come up and ruin aera's all the upcoming hours for the day.

she stares at kevin, not saying anything to him which he doesn't minds as well, shutting the door after he steps out, leaving aera by herself until they're both done with their work and return home too tired to argue about anything. she shakes her head, rolling her eyes at the voice of her mother-in-law, who's staying here for the weekend.

not so surprisingly now aera knew why kevin was suddenly worried about having a child. aera told him it's too early and she's not ready yet, considering that she's still in her initial years in the journey of being a great lawyer, and getting pregnant right now might mean saying at least two years (if not five or six) of goodbye to her job, which would be a big loss. however, apparantly her reason didn't sound as convincing to her in-laws. kevin was cool in the beginning, not having any particular opinion about kids until his mother told him that now that he's married he should start planning a perfect family too.

kevin ignored a few a times, straight up denying to even talk about it, but then his mother started bugging him too much, using emotional manipulation techniques like bringing up their imaginary death bed where they'd be lying without even having the fortune of seeing their grandchildren.

aera found that absurd and down right stupid, making no sense to her. although she trusted kevin and assumed that old people probably have that attitude towards life goals claiming them to be marriage and kids, while in reality there's so much more beyond that. aera ignored the constant bugging and direct or indirect appeals for her and kevin to have a baby now that they've been married for a year. she didn't take it seriously until kevin himself came up to her a few weeks ago, saying that they should just get done with this or the parents will not leave them alone.

that bugged aera even more. she tried explaining him that having kids isn't something they could do just to shut the parents up. kevin said he agreed but didn't know any other way out of it. ever since the day to that discussion things haven't been that smooth between them. every little issue would ignite up a bigger argument that somehow ended at the same thing no matter what the initial subject might've been.

aera takes a deep, going to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day as she promised jimin and haewon to have breakfast with them, then spend the rest of the with them and their kids like an enjoyable sunday.

as aera's in the bathroom, drying herself with the towel, she hears kevin's mother's voice calling for her, "aera? are you in there, darling?"

"yes, mom," she replies, "what happened? do you need something?"

"no, me and your dad were just going sit down for breakfast. so i thought i should call you as well,"

aera sighs, forcing a smile as she opens the door, the bathrobe keeping her body covered, "no, thank you. i'm actually going out. you guys should go on and eat,"

"oh okay, where are going you going by the way?" she asks, glancing back at the clothes aera has kept on the bed, "looks like something special...? did you tell kev?"

aera's jaw ticks, almost telling the woman to leave her room, but for the sake of politeness and reminding herself that she's kevin's mother, her mother-in-law, and older in age, she says nothing like her mind, "uh it's nothing that special, mom. and yes, kevin knows that i'm going out today," she says, adding with more emphasis, "like i do every other day, right?"

"but it's sunday," the mother says, playing dumb and innocent, making aera groan inside.

"is it?" she mutters, then covers up the sarcasm with a smile, "i mean, of course it is, mom. isn't that why you're here? to spend some time with your married son on the weekend and ask him to give you a grandchild?"

the woman falls silent, not saying anything and leaves the room, muttering something to herself, "god! what have i got myself into?!" aera groans, locking the door quickly and shakes her head. "why does she even come here- on second thoughts, kev can just go visit them instead. yeah," she mutters to herself, determined to talk to her husband about it and if necessary she might just straight out tell him that his mom is a toxic presence for their relationship.

but for now, she focuses on dressing up and dries her hair, smiling at the reflection once she's done with everything and picks up her phone, calling on jimin's number. aera heads out of her room, holding the phone near her ear and finds the in-laws on the dining table. she smiles at them, waving goodbye for the day, which is when jimin answers and her mother-in-law stops her for some reason.

"hey, aera. i was just going to call you—"

"do you know what time kevin will be coming home?"  the mother asks and aera pulls the phone down for a moment, shaking her head, getting a sigh from the lady, "he's working too much these days. my poor boy, he's gotten weaker,"

"yeah, i told him that he should take a few days off. but he doesn't listen," aera says.

"you should be a little responsible, aera," the mother shakes her head, "he's your husband and you should take care of him. provide him with proper meals at least,"

aera stares at her with disbelieving eyes, "i do cook for us, mom," she pronounces, turning to the father, who is also done with his wife and gives aera a subtle smile, as though virtually telling her not to mind the mother-in-law's words.

"then why is my kev getting skinnier?"

"let her be, meena," the father says and looks at aera, "you should go, you must be getting late,"

"thanks, dad," aera smiles at him, waving at him quickly and moves out of the door, heaving out a deep breath, almost going to her car when she realises jimin was on the call all this while, "shit..." her lips mutter, glancing at the screen which is still showing jimin's on the background with some typical symbols. "uh i'm sorry, oppa. mom was saying something, so—"

"is everything okay at home?" jimin asks.

"yeah. yeah, eveything is okay," aera says, "just normal stuff. i didn't know in laws were such a pain, especially the mothers. dad is cool,"

"i don't know about that," jimin sighs, "mine are fine,"

"you're the husband, that's why,"

"maybe," jimin hums, "uhm if you don't mind me asking, is she bothering you too much? i mean, i hope it's not affecting your relationship with kevin,"

"well, no, we're... we're good," aera says, taking the car outside the driveway and into the street. she places the phone on the stand, nibbling on her lip nervously although mentally she's thankful that jimin can't see her.

being an adult and most of all being married made aera realise what responsibilities she has. now jimin's worried and tired life made sense to her that she used to see ever since she was younger. even though she doesn't have to worry about every tiny thing or look after a kid and a moody teenager like jimin had to do back when she was a kid, things still linger at the back of aera's head. especially her recent arguments and disagreements with her husband.

as much as she wanted to vent out and just fight him to use his brain into thinking about them, and about aera herself, she knew it wasn't going to help. she told everyone that they were doing fine, as though she didn't feel like walking on thin ice for the last few weeks with kevin, aera still believed that the matter is personal to the couple and they can sort it out with some mature talking rather than involving other family members to work it out for them.

even though kevin's mother is too involved already, aera didn't want to tell her brothers anything yet for she knew that some issues arising between a couple were more than just normal. no marriage is perfect and they all have their phases and moments. maybe this is aera and kevin's? and on second thoughts she didn't feel like discussing with her brothers about whether she should get pregnant or not. that would be a bit awkward for all of them.

jungkook is already busy with his life going like a rollercoaster these days, especially when he just started seeing a girl. like they show in movies, jungkook too, stumbled upon a girl he recognised from his childhood— the only girl he was ever friends with. she was with him in pre-school and then half of elementary years before she moved to japan due to her father's job. aera didn't know any such girl as jimin said she wasn't born then, but she had surely seen her in a few pictures with jungkook and realised that she was the girl whom jungkook liked and used to call her his girlfriend.

the ladies including aera found the coincidence of their reunion adorable and almost miraculous, considering that they were never in touch and lived their lives in two different places, possibly never thinking of each other unless they opened the book of pictures from many years back, reminiscing the good old days they had in their childhood.

aera was yet to meet this girl and for jungkook is out of seoul these days, busy with a massive photoshoot. but he did promise to introduce her to his girlfriend as soon as he returns. aera was happy for him, and so were the rest of the hyungs and jungkook's noonas, proud of their boy for finally getting in a relationship.

between all this, aera couldn't just go and whine about her own marriage going rough at the time. she wasn't scared though. not even a bit, because she's confident enough about her and kevin fixing it soon without major damage. she knows she loves him too much to let him go, and he loves her back as well no matter what. that was the only thing giving aera hope and not actually making her freak out with the thought of being pressurized for giving the family a child. she knows herself and her husband enough to be relaxed with the assurance that both of them together won't let anything wrong or impulsive happen.

so when jimin asks about them again, mentioning how she doesn't sound that convincing, aera just smiles to herself, "we're really fine, oppa. thanks for asking though," she says with the smile increasing gradually as she pulls up in front of the café they were supposed to meet up at. she gets out of the car after parking it next to jimin's and fixes her hair roughly, heading towards the entrance of the café.

her eyes scan around the hall, only to be ushered in with a tug on her hand, knitting her brows together into a frown as she looks down. a chuckle rolls out of her lips, recognising jimin's eight-year-old son and her apparent 'little brother' for the boy still believes that aera is his real noona, "mom and dad are sitting there, noona," the boy says with a wide smile, leading her towards the booth where she finds jimin, haewon and their three-year-old babygirl sitting together.

"well, hello to you too, jiwon," aera scrunches up her nose, ruffling the boy's hair as he grins sheepishly.

"hi noona," he bites his lip, letting go of her hand when they're almost near the booth and runs to his parents first, "dad! noona's here!"

aera chuckles at him, glancing at her phone buzzing in her hand and notices a text from kevin which makes her stop in her place, thumb clicking on the notification with the speed of light, so fast that if it wasn't her husband she wouldn't been embarrassed with herself.

i'll be home late.
tell mom not to wait for me

aera stares at the text, regretting opening it now and sighs softly, leaving it on seen only for her man to send another text.

you know i can see you reading my
msgs right?

aera rolls her eyes at that, but then ponders for a moment as she remembers him talking that way when he wasn't mad but a little playful and actually in a good mood. she shakes her head, uncertain of what to think of it anymore and just puts the phone in her bag, smiling over at her brother and his wife as she sits in front of them, "hi, sorry did i keep you guys waiting?" she asks.

"no no, we just arrived," haewon smiles warmly, "how are you doing? there's been no news about you, no visits, nothing?"

"ah yeah," aera chuckles lightly, "just been really busy. eveything's good though. my work is going fine, kevin is also working hard,"

"and what about home?" jimin pushes with a subtle sigh as he sees aera shaking her head dismissively at his question, smiling like she didn't know what he meant by that. "i understand if you don't wanna tell us. i was just a bit worried hearing kevin's mom over the call. i'm sorry, i didn't know what to think of that," jimin admits.

"that... was..." aera looks down with a tired smile, "that was nothing. honestly, just— it's better to ignore,"

"is she saying something to you?" haewon asks this time, causing aera to stop and think for a moment.

"god, look at you," jimin shakes his head, sliding a glass of water towards his sister and nods his head subtly, gesturing her to drink some, "you look stressed, ri. you can share anything with us, with me or with your unnie separately if that helps,"

aera nods slowly, nibbling on her lower lip as she leans forward, resting her hands on the table between them, "uhm how did you... how did you both, like— decided that you wanted to have kids?"

jimin and haewon stay quiet for a moment before exchanging a glance with each other, "that's..." jimin sips the coffee he ordered a few minutes ago, humming as he glances at his wife again, "i think i was the one to bring it up right?" when haewon nods, jimin joins her too and they turn to aera, "why are you asking that?"

"nothing just curious. kev kinda said he wants a baby...? but he doesn't mean it,"

"what does that mean?" haewon frowns with confusion.

"that sounds messed up," jimin comments.

"well, okay here's the thing. mom has been asking me and kev to start 'planning' our family now. we've told her that we're not ready yet, especially i'm not ready yet. but she just doesn't understand. now kev's like let's do this so she'd leave us alone,"

"wow..." haewon lets out, "i didn't expect that,"

"me neither," jimin frowns, "are they, like— pressurizing you or something? and how's kevin so casual about this? have you both actually discussed this, aera?"

"woah, wait, relax," aera chuckles softly, shaking her head at the elder brother, as her attention moves to the little kids, busy with their own thing just because they got bored with the elders' strange conversation. she feels sorry now, for her brother and haewon too, knowing that they were just supposed to fun today rather than discussing this when she's aware how quickly her brothers get worked up when it's something bothering her. and this time it might bother them even more because they won't be able to handle it unless aera allows them to intervene in her married life, which she sure wouldn't.

"tell me, aera. did you and kevin talk about it?"

"we tried," she nods, "but we both have been too busy to have anytime for talking this out. i wrapped up two major cases this month and signed another one yesterday. kevin has been working too. he is busier than me— i mean, he went to office even today,"

"really?" haewon frowns, glancing at jimin, "didn't you say there's not much work these days?"

"kevin is our legal advisor and he's related to finance department. they do work a bit more than the sales and marketing," jimin explains, then glances at aera with slightly uncertain eyes, "but they still get weekends off. everybody does,"

aera falls silent at the words of her brother. of course she knew they got weekends off, she had seen jimin working and running their company all her life. but when kevin told her about working overtime sometimes or having to go extra days she believed him right away without a single doubt occuring in her head. never did she question him nor did she try speaking to jimin about it for she wanted to maintain their professionalism and keep relations aside from work, especially when kevin works under her brother.

"are you sure?" haewon laughs nervously, turning to jimin and nudges him to say something that cover up the way his words sound, "i think you're missing out on something, jimin. there must be some important work, that's why kevin and probably some other people too, are working on weekends as well,"

jimin doesn't say anything, busy watching aera's reaction as she's staring at her hands, looking confused and unsure about many things. he sighs softly, taking her hand in his and kisses her knuckles gently, "don't worry, your unnie is probably ri—"

"i think he just wanted to get away from home," aera mumbles, lifting up her gaze to meet jimin's eyes, "he was stressed about work, then mom was bugging him, and we had frequent arguments too... i think he needed space to breathe..."

"is it that bad?" jimin asks, "your fights,"

"no, nothing that harsh. but yes, we do happen to argue a lot these days. the short period of time that we're at home and not working, we'd be arguing. mostly about how i don't wanna get pregnant because one, my job. two, i don't think i'm prepared to take care of a child. and three, just because his parents want someone to play with doesn't sound like a solid reason for me to have a baby,"

"i agree with you on that," haewon nods subtly, "look, aera, i know what you're trying to say and you're not wrong in your shoes. it's your body and you should be the one to make a decision here, because carrying a baby for nine months inside you is going to be easy. but i just think you should consider talking about it with kevin. he's your husband and he does have a say in this with you,"

aera nods at her words, resting her head on her arms crossed on the table, heaving out a deep breath. jimin says nothing to her for now and calls a waitress over, asking for what everyone wanted to eat instead. aera shakes her head, giving her brother the look she used to give when she was younger and didn't know what to order. so jimin automatically tells the waiter to get her the same order as him and his wife, which includes croissants, scrambled eggs, sausages and french toast, along with a milkshake for aera and jiwon, and orange juice for jieun.

"oreo milkshake please," aera adds.

"yes!" jiwon nods eagerly.

"alright, thank you for your order, sir. please wait for a moment," the girl bows, smiling at jimin, getting a subtle nod from him before she turns around and leaves.

aera's attention shifts to her phone as it buzzes on the table, a frown making it's way to scrunch her brows together as her friend's name flashes on the screen and she wonders why he's calling now. it could be about a hyped plan of the possibility of him wanting to hangout with her and clay to take advantage of today being sunday, or it could just be a lazy ring to catch up on each other's life for aera knew too, that it's almost been a month since they all got any time to see each other.

aera answers the call, giving an apologetic smile to her brother and his wife, standing up as she also tells them that she'll use the restroom once by the time the food arrives. "hey," she glances at her phone, greeted by a lazy, raspy voice of jake rather than an excited one like she had guessed, and it makes her sigh, check-in the time again to see if it's actually so early that could have possibly woken up now. 09:40 am. okay not so much.

"hey," she responds with a smile, entering the ladies' restroom, glancing at herself in the mirror, "still sleeping?"

"it's sunday," jake grumbles.

"well, sleep it off then. why did you call me?"

"mmm'bout that," his voice is deep and aera tries to recall if it has always been like this. this deep and low, and raspy, and definitely attractive. "you free today?"

"well, depends on what time you're asking," she opens the door to one of the cubicles, keeping the phone close to her ear while she sits on the closed toilet, finally taking a breath with silence ever since morning.

"evening...?"

"i guess so? what for?"

"nothing just thought of getting a drink. you, clay and i," he hums and aera hears him sigh on the line, followed by a yawn, "it's been a while,"

"yeah... yeah, no, you're right. i've been so caught up with work, home and just eveything in general," aera nods to herself, "i talked to clay two days ago and we were thinking of hanging out soon,"

"without me?"

"obviously not," aera rolls her eyes on hearing him grin, "anyway, i'm out with jimin oppa and haewon unnie right now. we're getting breakfast together and then just some stuff with the kids,"

"that sounds fun," jake genuinely sounds interested as he chuckles on the line, "ri, i uh... i think clay— fuck it, i'll tell you when we meet,"

"wha— nooo! don't do that. you know leaving anyone hanging with suspense isn't a good thing. especially when that someone is me,"

"okay fine, first tell me did clay tell you anything that recently happened?"

"like him working extra hours under some asshole senior doctor...? or maybe getting drunk last week and texting soomin?"

"yes! exactly! well, she replied him. they're hooking up now,"

"what?! i thought they're done— oh my god! that's juicy," she grins and jake laughs, "shit, i really thought they're over each other. i mean technically,"

"bruh, it's getting serious now. that jerk left me and our pizza at midnight to attend his chick,"

"wow, that's... just wow," aera laughs amusingly, "i'm happy for him i guess?"

"yeah," jake hums, "anyway, tell me about you and your little husband? how are you both? any casualties yet?" aera chuckles at that and jake remains silent, until he probably realises that she isn't going to say anything. so he adds up eventually, "should i come visit him?"

"for what?" aera laughs lightly, "i didn't even say anything,"

"exactly," he points out, "you're not bragging about how good of a man you've got for yourself,"

"i don't do that, shut up," she gasps.

"yes you do, missy," he chuckles, "anyway, see if you can wrap it up early today? i can pick you up then and we'll go take clay as well?"

"uh yeah, sure," although she agrees to hangout with him and clay, deep in some corner of her mind the thought of kevin and the in-laws bugs her a little, not sure if they'll react well or just confirm their doubts on her being a spoiled girl. kevin is fine, he understands her friendship with jake and clay, but aera is not sure if his mother would understand that. and considering that she's already not happy with aera refusing to give them a baby just yet, she might as well not take this well.

she hangs up the call on a good note, feeling strange as she knew herself enough to know that she wasn't the type to care what others thought of her, especially about hanging out with guys all the time. but now that she's married and has people looking at her, whom she also has to call family, it bothers her a little and she can understand why some people don't want to get married at all.

it's not like she didn't enjoy being married to the man she loves. it's absolutely amazing being in love and having someone who cares for you, understands your silence better than most people and would go out of their way to see you happy. it's a nice feeling, but saying that it's the only feeling in the world would be wrong. or saying that you can be happy only when you're married to a certain someone would not be right either, because as far as aera knows, love is a beautiful feeling that could adorn one's life, however it couldn't be bigger than life itself. so if you see a willful single person next time, you know better than to assume they're unhappy, or when you see a married one who knows what kind of relationship they might be in?

there are pros and cons of both. love or no love.

as aera gets up with similar thoughts lingering her head, she decides to let it slide and dials kevin's number. her eyes stare at her reflection, now standing outside the cubicle, in front of the mirror, hoping he would answer her. fortunately when he does, there isn't his voice but some muffled shuffling voices, "hello? kev?" she speaks first, waiting for moment until she hears a voice.

"kevin, your phone fell behind the couch!"

the certainty that it's a female voice makes aera frown in confusion. "hello? who's this?" aera asks, but the person can probably not hear her since the phone is behind the couch. as she waits for a few seconds, her husband's voice finally makes it to her ears, leaving her stunned at his words when the woman mentions it was his wife's call.

"i'll call her back later. she gives me a lot of attitude these days," he sounds tired, "i just want some space," and aera was right about him leaving home early and returning late. but what she didn't know at all was that he was going off to another woman to get his 'space'.

"did you fight again?" the girl with him said. to which he replied with, "when do we not fight? i'm so done of this. i wanna tell her that i don't like us fighting. i married her because i love her, but now her being so bitchy, and never having time for me is just too much. also there's mom always asking us for a child. can you believe it? now this has become another issue between me and aera. she doesn't wanna get pregnant... i just need some time to clear my head,"

"i'm here for that," aera cringes at the tone of her voice, shutting her eyes in disgust, hand clutching the edge of the counter tightly, while the one holding the phone also grasps as hard as is it probably can. as silence on the line is broken over some giggles and the girl calling out kevin's nane in between, tears blur aera's eyes, churning her insides violently such that she could feel the pain physically.

she never imagined herself to be in this position, hearing her husband's frustrated tone of voice, while he rants about her to someone he's cheating on her with. this is awful and too much to take. aera covers her mouth, tapping on the screen a few times without looking as the tears stream down her face and she fails to keep in a sob, trying her best to recall if she actually got on his nerves so much. she doesn't find a single reason that could possibly justify him cheating on her only because he was frustrated.

she hurries back inside the cubicle, shutting the door and leans against it, her palm pressed on her mouth to contain her sobs. his voice keeps ringing in her ears, the way he sounded frustrated and annoyed even on mentioning her, making her question if she was that hard to deal with. yes, she had been working hard and got less time to spend with him, but that didn't mean she didn't love him with all her heart.

ever since they started dating aera knew he was the one and fell in love deeper every day until they finally got married and now even celebrated their one year marriage anniversary two months ago, just when things had started going down the hill gradually. and today it feels like it has all come crashing down at once at aera, leaving her with nothing more than a heart shattered into a hundred pieces.

she wishes he could talk to talk her, hear her out and actually try sorting this out with her instead of seeking space at other places, completely forgetting about his wife to whom he, ironically, asked that they should start trying for a baby. it puzzles aera too much, wondering whether he actually meant it or not, because one thing she was sure of was that no man would tell his wife that they should have a baby then go cheat on her the very next day.

aera's cries turn tired, eyes puffy when she glances at her phone again, feeling it buzzing in her hand again, this time it's jimin. she sighs deeply, closing her eyes, causing more tears to slide down her cheeks, suddenly feeling the deep urge to be in her brother's arms. although then she remembers about his little kids being here with them, making harder  than it already is as she doesn't even know what to explain to him if he asks. she takes a deep breath, rubbing her eyes and gathers herself together, acknowledging that cheating would be a big accusation on kevin and she should first confront him about what she heard before telling anyone else about it, especially her brothers who won't see left or right and just be up kevin's ass for hurting her.

she nods at her thought as it sounds reasonable to her and she drops a text to kevin, telling him to come home early today and she has something important to talk about today itself. with that, after making sure she doesn't look like she just cried her eyes out, aera makes her way back outside, forcing a smile on seeing jimin and haewon waiting while the kids have started with their meal. aera sighs softly, shaking her head dismissively when jimin asks what took her so long while feeding his daughter.

as hours pass and aera can't seem to take off her mind from what kevin did to her even when jiwon's dragging her up to the next the ride, claiming that he'll be brave, enjoy the ride with aera, and then brag about it to his uncle (jungkook). although she refuses a few times, telling him that she's tired now and wants to watch him having fun instead, the boy doesn't listen, pouting at his dad to persuade her. jimin on glancing at his sister, noticing her dull mood ever since they left the café, says nothing to her. rather he consoles his son to leave her alone for sometime.

with jiwon's last ride ending and jimin's worried glances becoming more frequent to aera, she takes a deep breath, smiling at him lightly and looks down, "i uh, i think i should leave now," she should. it's almost four and she still has to prepare herself for confronting kevin.

"if you want," jimin gives a subtle nod, his hand gradually making it up to her back and pats gently, "i've said this a lot of times before, and i'll keep saying it that you can can always, means literally always, talk to me, alright? i hate to see my child unhappy," he says in a tender voice, wrapping his arm around her with a smile as he tilts his head to look down at her, leaning to peck the side of her hair, "i know things can be hard and really bad at times, but all you need to do is hold on. you have your brothers, sweetheart, at all times,"

aera nods at his words, hugging him back tightly as she hides her face into his chest, nibbling on her lower lip to contain her sob. although before jimin said anything more or saw her crying, aera pulls away slowly, fixing her hair while sneakily trying to get rid of her tears, "i'll go now. it was fun today," she lets out, sending him another one of her fake smiles and turns around, not even caring that she didn't bid goodbyes with haewon and the kids.

walking away from jimin, still in his field of vision as his eyes hold a glint of concern, staring at aera's back, knowing something's really wrong when she lifts up her hand to her face. the mannerism gives it away that she's probably wiping off her tears, for jimin could see right through her while she kept struggling to hold on a smile for the day. heaving out another breath, he's pulled out of his trail of thoughts by his daughter's crying voice as she's holding her half eaten cone of ice cream and jiwon grinning next to her.

"you—" haewon gasps, crying the three-year-old in her arms and shoots jiwon a glare, causing him to snigger silently, shrugging his shoulders as if he didn't eat his little sister's ice cream.
