"Maybe they'll have a kid your age," Francesca smiled as she looked at her daughter,

"I don't want to meet them," Lillian shook her head as she tried to let go of her fathers hand.

"That might be a little late," Matt began as he saw the door open,

"Dad! There are people at the door!" Brett yelled as he looked at the three strangers,

"Oh hello," Ian was quick to see what it was that his youngest son was talking about,

"Hi we are your new neighbours," Francesca smiled as she introduced herself,

"Wonderful, would you like to come in?" The Edwards father was hoping that his wife was still in the living room to meet them.

"If you go out those doors at the back you'll find my son Ethan." He added as he finally saw the young girl who was being pushed in front of her father,

"You can go Lillian," Matt smiled as he watched his daughter turn and look at him with a face of uncertainty.

"Brett can show you the way," Ian motioned in the direction that his son was walking in,

"Ethan meet the new neighbour!" Brett called out as he walked outside,

"I like your shirt," Lillian was quick to say as she saw the taller boys graphic shirt,

"Thanks," Ethan nodded as he took a second to look at her,

She was pretty.

"You know how to play?" He added as he motioned to the hockey stick that was in his hands,

"Not at all," the blonde shook her head as she had never played hockey before, she actually found it a really boring sport.

"I'll teach you," the brunette smiled as he went to grab a second stick.

Over the next two years Ethan and Lillian grew close.

"Red or blue?" Lillian asked as she held up two different hoodies,

"I don't know?" Ethan groaned as he looked up from his phone,

"Just pick!" The girl matched his tone,

"Red suits you better," the boy sighed as he motioned to the hoodie that he had given her,

"You sure?" The blonde asked wanting to make sure that he was certain on his decision,

"Yes, Lilly." The brunette nodded,

"Now can we please go before we are late!" He added as he let out a groan,

"We aren't late," Lillian pointed out as she looked at the clock on her wall,

"Yeah but I want to get there early," Ethan explained in a duh tone,

"Hey you made me do the same for you when you had tryouts," he added as he saw the judgemental look that formed on her face,

She had soccer tryouts for a club just months before.

"Give me five minutes," the girl asked as she grabbed her bag,

"Lil-" the boy began but was quickly cut off,

"I promise I won't take any longer!" The blonde yelled out as she ran out of her room making sure to not take any more time.

Lillian barged into her best friends room the second she saw the news,

"Lily," Ethan looked up with tears in his eyes,

"I know E," Lillian didn't hesitate to wrap her arms around him engulfing him into a hug,

"It hurts," the boy explained as he let out a sob,

"You know it's not to late for me to go side tackle her," the girl offered causing him to let out a laugh,

"She's not worth it," the brunette shook his head,

"I know," the blonde nodded as she finally sat down next to him,

"What can I do for you?" She added as she look up at him,

"Just stay here," Ethan spoke softly as he motioned for her to lay down,

"Done," Lillian smiled as she watched him rest his head on her shoulder,

As the duo lay there in silence for a while before she fell asleep first the boy noticed something,

This was the night that he fell in love with her.

Ethan and Lillian found themselves at the local diner for their weekly Saturday brunch.

"So you ready to share," Lillian asked as she cocked her head,

"On three?" Ethan asked as the girl nodded,

"Three," she counted out the final number as they both now had to announce where they were going to university.

"U Mich," the duo spoke at the same time causing their eyes to go wide,

"No way," the brunette was the first one to break the silence,

"Yes way," the blonde nodded as she let out an excited squeal,

"We're seriously going to the same place?" She added as she grinned,

"I guess we are," Ethan nodded as he ran his fingers through his hair.

The day of senior prom had finally come and Lillian was rushing to get ready.

"Lillian honey," Francesca called out to her daughter as she knocked on the door,

"He's waiting for you," she added as she stuck her head in the room,

"I'll be down in a sec!" Lillian explained as she finished putting her earrings in and made her way to the stairs,

"Where is he?" She added as she couldn't see her best friend,

"Wow," Ethan muttered from the archway of the living room,

He had turned down the ten dates that had asked him to go to prom because he wanted to go with his friend,

"Is it too much?" The girl asked as she gave him a spin,

"No, of course not." The boy shook his head as he felt his throat go dry,

She looked perfect, but of course he'd never admit that.

"Then what is it?" The blonde cocked her head,

"You just look really pretty," the brunette explained as he looked down to her red dress.

"This is for you," he added as he remembered that he still had her corsage,

"Tulips?" Lillian grinned as she looked at the the pink flowers that made up the bracelet,

"They're your favourite," Ethan explained his reasoning for picking them as he placed the corsage on her wrist before he wanted to take a moment to just look at her.

"Come on you two, we need pictures!" Their parents quickly snapped them out of the intimate moment that they were having,

This was the day that Lillian fell in love with him.

The day before graduation Ethan found himself stood at Lillian's window,

"What are you doing here E?" Lillian asked as she opened her window,

"It's midnight," she added as she looked at the alarm clock on her table,

"Amelia called me," Ethan explained with a sigh,

Amelia was Lillian's best female friend,

"We were drinking and I said some stupid things," the girl quickly explained as she turned a bright shade of pink,

She had confessed to the fact that she had a crush on Ethan.

"I'm sorry if I put you into a weird posit-" she rambled on as her eyes went wide,

"Lilly," the boy tried to cut her off,

"I didn't even think about what it would do to our friend-" the blonde continued on as she began to feel bad.

"Would you just shut up and listen?" The brunette asked as the girl finally stopped and looked at him,

"Okay," Lillian nodded as she waited for him to carry on,

"Have you ever thought about how I felt about us?" Ethan began to slowly close the space between them,

"As you've said I'm your best friend," the girl pointed out as she had grown accustomed to the title,

"I didn't go to prom with you because I felt bad," the boy shook his head as he finally decided to tell her the truth,

There was a rumour going around that he went with his best friend because nobody asked her to prom.

"I went with you because I wanted to go with the girl I like," he added as he finally closed the gap between them as she was now against her table,

"You don't-" the blonde shook her head,

She had liked him for years and didn't need him saying this because he felt bad.

"You don't know how I feel about you," the brunette muttered as he moved his lips dangerously close to hers,

"E," Lillian's voice was breathy as she wanted to have their lips connect,

"Just let me have this moment," Ethan finally made the last move and it felt like the final piece of a puzzle that had just been connected,

"What do you say about me taking you out tomorrow morning?" He asked as he slowly pulled away,

"I'd say that you should get back to bed if you want to wake up for that," the girl pointed out in a teasing tone,

"Can't I stay here?" The boy sent her a playful pout,

"No, no you can't." The blonde let out a laugh as she shook her head,

"I'll see you tomorrow E," she added as she placed a peck on his lips before she sent him back into the direction of her window.

The next morning he asked her to be his girlfriend.

It was move in day and after getting Lillian's room unpacked, it was now Ethan's turn.

"Put me down!" Lillian let out a squeal as she got thrown over her boyfriends shoulder,

"Is this the wrong room?" A voice asked as he stood in the door,

"You Mark?" Ethan was quick to place the girl back down as he turned around to the boy,

"Yeah," Mark nodded as he tried to figure out what was going on between the two,

"I'm Ethan, your roommate." The boy smiled as he introduced himself,

"Hey dude," the American shook his hand before he turned his attention to the girl,

"This is Lillian my girlfriend." Ethan began as he realised that he hadn't introduced his girlfriend,

"You two from the same state?" Mark asked as he cocked his head,

"I'm actually Canadian," the boy shook his head realising that his accent wasn't being noticed by his new teammate,

"She's lived next door since we were eleven." He added with a smile as he looked at the blonde,

"Oh cool," Mark nodded as he scratched the back of his neck,

"I'm going to go so you two can catch up," Lillian began as she could tell that the boy seemed to be a bit shy,

"I'll see you tonight," she added as she smiled at her boyfriend,

"It was good to meet you," the other boy sent her a soft smile as he watched her turn to the door,

"You too Mark." The girl sent him a wave before she was back off again.

It was the middle or March and Lillian found herself questioning her relationship. The duo hadn't spent a lot of time when she was in season, and now they were going through the same but with Ethan.

"Are you being serious right now?" Lillian let out a groan as she pinched the bridge of her nose,

"The boys want to go out before the big game," Ethan explained as he shoved his hands into his jacket pockets,

"You promised that we'd watch a movie tonight," the girl pointed out as she messed with the end of her shirt,

"We can do that tomorrow," the boy sighed as he placed his hand on her knee,

"I haven't see you in weeks," the blonde looked up at him with nothing but sadness in her eyes,

"We had lunch together last week," the brunette pointed out,

They only spoke a handful of words during that meal, but who's counting?

"I mean where it's just been us." Lillian corrected him as she shook her head,

"And every time we do see each other we fight," she added as it was true,

Since Christmas they seemed to just constantly fight,

"That's not my fault," Ethan pulled away from the girl was he let out a scoff,

"I never said it was!" The girl shot back as she realised where she stood in terms of this battle tonight,

"Look if you want to go just go," she added as she raked her fingers through her hair as she accepted the loss,

"I'll talk to you tomorrow babe," the boy smiled as he turned around and made his way to the door,

"Bye," the girl whispered as she pulled her knees to her chest hoping to find a sense of comfort,

"Not even a kiss," she muttered as she placed her fingers on her untouched lips.

It was the last party of the year and whilst everyone was having fun, the couple was in the corner fighting again.

"Are you seriously breaking up with me?" Ethan let out a scoff as he furrowed his eyebrows,

"I don't even see you anymore," Lillian was quick to shoot back as she let out a defeated sigh,

"Don't do this," the boy muttered as he placed his hand on her cheek,

"I can't go through another year of us arguing E," the blonde felt tears well at her eyes

"I don't feel like a priority in your life and I don't think that it's going to change," she added as she placed her hand on his leaving it there for a moment before she pulled his hand away,

"I'll see you around Ethan," the girl tucked her hair behind her ears before she turned around and headed for the door.

"Lilly!" The brunette called out as he began to follow her,

"Just give her space," Mark shook his head as he quickly cut his friends park off,

"You two can get past this, but not tonight." He added as he patted the boys back before he went to get another drink,

That was the night that the duo went to bed heartbroken.
