Layton's p.o.v

The schooling year had finally come to an end and all that was left was the dance and graduation, can't say I'm particularly excited about either. Rose had dragged me around to find the perfect dress, to quote her 'we have to look like goddesses'. Freddy and I had been practicing for our performance, we finally agreed on a song and were ready to rock it.

I didn't want to be the third wheel with Rose and Cass even though they weren't together anymore so I agreed to meet them at the dance. I had gotten ready, took plenty of photos with my dad (I could have sworn I saw a tear escape from the side of his eye) along with the Becker's and was now ready to leave. I just had to fetch my bag from upstairs.

Bag in hand, walking down the stairs I heard my father open the front door and speak to someone

'Could it be Kiandre? Did he change his mind? Was he here for me?' These thoughts had me swooning as I hurried to see if my hopes had come true. Unfortunately I was wrong but somehow disappointment didn't fill my heart, sure it wasn't whom I expected but it was a pleasant surprise.

"Surprised to see me?"

Rick stood tall and proud in front of me in a perfectly suited black tux and smile plastered across his face. He looked like a model straight off the runway and I wondered what he was doing here.

"You look like a breath of fresh air. I know you weren't exactly expecting me but Jamie had thought you deserved someone to accompany and compliment you all night. So here I am, would you allow me to take you to the dance?" Rick shyly asked

"Wow, I don't know what to say"

Rick takes Layton's hand and places it on his chest

"Say yes, I promise we will have fun"

"Let's go"

Rick leads Layton to his car and opens the door for her, it wasn't the impala, he thought she would prefer something classier for her carriage. Upon arrival at the dance all eyes were on the two of them. Layton felt shy for some reason but Rick placed his hand on her back offering reassurance.

The two quickly found their way over to Rose and Cass who were happily conversing while indulging themselves in champagne.

Layton's p.o.v

The evening was magical we had been dancing and celebrating the end of an era. Rick really did do his best to ensure I wore a smile on my face at all times. There was no sign of Kiandre and I had wondered how my night would have went if he were by my side. Soon it was time for Freddy and I to perform on stage.

"I can't wait to see you up there, good luck" Rick squeezes my hand and smiles

We get on stage, Freddy starts and I await my turn

I'm sitting eyes wide open and I got one thing stuck on my mind

Wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life, oh

As I sang, I watched the crowd, couples were dancing while others listened, I made eye contact with Rick who had been watching me intently.

For a moment I could have sworn I saw a silhouette of Kiandre in the crowd but my mind was probably playing tricks on me, he should have been here, I even suggested to Freddy we do this song because it relates to Kiandre and I and I really wanted him to hear it.

We had finished perform and the crowd applauded. Rick had made his way towards me.

Kiandre's p.o.v

Tonight was our senior dance and instead of getting my suit ready and going to pick up my beautiful date, I've just come from finishing my shift at the café and all I wanted to do was take a hot shower and sleep.

I had wondered how Layton had looked, like an angel and no less, I had been checking my phone hoping she had at least sent me a picture but I knew I didn't deserve one.

I checked the school page and the entire dance set up had looked enchanting

, I instantly regretted missing out on what could have been one of the greatest nights of my life with the girl I loved.

"What the hell are you still doing here and not dressed" my siblings barge into my room scolding me

"I'm not going to the dance"

Elle came over and slapped me on the head

"You're just going to leave Layton alone on such a special night, that's a dick move brother" she was mad at me

"Seriously we can handle things for one night, go it's not too late." Tyler begged me

They were right, if I hurried I could make it and have at least one dance with my Bellissma. I rushed and put on a suit I had bought for court and made my way over.

I arrived in time, catching the final glimpses of Layton on stage, I stayed somewhat in the shadows. I didn't want my presence and peoples whispers to distract her up there. I knew the song was dedicated to me even if she didn't say so. She looked like Aphrodite and many eyes were on her, but I had noticed someone stare at her too keenly almost with the same admiration I did.

I kept my eyes on the stranger and watched how he moved through the crowd to get to her. It was freaking Rick, seriously what the hell! He whispered in her ear, his breath probably on her neck and my blood began to boil, of course I had no claim to Layton and had let her down more than once but I loved her and when he took her hand in his and walked off my heart shattered into a million pieces.

"You were great up there, do you want to get out of here? Not like that I mean uhmm..." Rick was fumbling with his words

"Yes" Layton needed some fresh air after all and trusted Rick

He took her hand and intertwined their fingers before leading her off.

The two got into Ricks car and drove off, the radio played in the background as they discussed anything and everything. Rick pulls up on a hilltop and escorts Layton to the bonnet of his car. They sit in silence looking at the twinkling lights of the city.

There was something magical about the city at night, it seemed so peaceful from afar.

"Thank you for tonight Rick, I'm glad you and Jamie schemed to ensure I have a great night." Says Layton

"Well you deserved it, I had a pretty good time oh did I mention you look great"

"A few times actually" the two laugh and sit in comforting silence once more.

Layton's p.o.v

Graduation day had come and I was actually looking forward to getting my high school diploma and starting a new chapter of my life, of course there was going to be some adjustments I had to get used to but I knew I could do it. Jamie, his parents and my dad had all showed up, Rick sent me flowers and his apology for not been able to make it, he had another undercover job.

Kiandre and his family were actually present. Elle waved me over and I nervously made my way over. She hugged me while the others said their congratulations.

Kiandre wrapped his arms around me and we stayed like that for a little too long, he felt a bit tense against me and seemed like something was worrying him.

"Mi mancherai, trova la strada per tornare da me e sfrutta al Massimo la tua vita"
(I'm going to miss you, find your way back to me and make the most of your life.) I whisper in his ear

"Italian? Since when" he said in shock

"I've been practicing for when we move to Verzi" I smile at him

"Ti amo tanto" (I love you so much) he utters before pulling me into another hug.

Even though we weren't on the best terms I'm glad we had a 'see you later' instead of a 'goodbye'

We receive our 'oh so important pieces of paper' and threw our graduation caps into the air. This was the beginning of something new and amazing.
