Misconceptions and Baby Fever

"Violet meet your aunty Layton." Rose soothingly says.

Layton shoots Cass a look of disbelief before coyly smiling back at the baby.

"Amor who was at the door?" Rick finds Layton standing in front of their guests flabbergasted.

"Amor? When did this happen?" Rose looks condescendingly at the couple.

"I'm going to take off, Tessa and I have plans, good luck with this." Cass weakly smiles and rushes off, obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

"Come in, we have plenty to catch up on." Layton steps aside gesturing Rose to enter her home.

Violet starts to cry, her screeching renders everyone else barely audible.

"Can I perhaps hold her, I'm actually great with kids." Rick sweetly asks

Rose was a bit apprehensive, handing her child to a stranger and looks to Layton for advice.

"It's okay, you can trust him." Layton approves.

Rose hands Violet over, who instantly stops crying as Rick gently rocks her.

"If you guys want I can take Violet to the park, that way your'll can talk."

"Alright, thank you Rick, but if anything happens to my daughter I will end you." Rose's 'mama bear' instinct makes an appearance.

Rick gathers Violets stroller and heads off.

"You start." Layton suggests as she pours tea

"Well, I met Violets dad in Amsterdam. We partied too hard one night and ended up in each other's bed, 9 months later I had a baby."

"Is he in your life now?"

"To an extent, I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything and well ghosted you, I just didn't see my life going this way and well I was worried you'd want nothing to do with us because of Cassidy."

"Cass is my best friend but you know he wouldn't off had a problem he's a great guy, I would have been there for you had you let me."

"I know, enough about me. You're living with Rick? What did I miss?"

Layton fills Rose in on her whirlwind romance and it was just like old times, two friends in comfort confiding in each other.

Kiandre's p.o.v

Blue fall's or as I like to call it 'The place where the love of my life is happily dating another man"

My advanced math professor Mr. Kent, was doing a lecture here and guess what he dragged some of his students with him, can you sense my excitement?

On one hand I was praying not to run into Layton because I don't think I could stand seeing her and not claiming her as mine once more, but on the other hand I did want to see her, to remind her "I'm still here and I love you" but how selfish would that be of me.

Tyler made me promise that if she's truly happy I shouldn't interfere, something about Karma and if you love something set it free blah blah. In some other news I was ambushed on multiple occasions and set up on blind dates by my friends and since I'm still single you can guess how those went.

Mr. Kent's oration went on for what seemed like hours- seriously it's a Sunday god dedicated it as a day of rest. The lecture hall was stuffy and I ended up needing fresh air so that's what prompted me to take a stroll in the park.

The sun was shining, birds chirping you get the idea and my mood was elated until I heard a familiar voice and look in its direction.

"Who's an adorable baby? You're an adorable baby."

I immediately spot Rick playing with a baby on a nearby bench and my stomach churns. I wanted to go over there and punch him until his insides became his outsides but then something else clicked within me.

The baby, she looked about two months old and by the way she smiled down at Rick, the thought that instantly invaded my mind was "Could that be his and Layton's child?" I mean the math did add up.

The more rational side of my brain said "Perhaps it's a friends baby" but seeing how happy he was and how comfortable the infant was made me second guess everything. Was I been a creep staring at them - yes but I needed a definitive answer because this little human could change everything.

"Hey amor, Vi and I are on our way home, I think she misses her mummy, see you soon."

And just like that my worst suspicions came true, why was god punishing me like this? I tried my best to save my family but little did I know I would be losing my future in the process. I walked of briskly, I didn't want Rick to see me pre breakdown.

This was it, the last straw, the final nail in the coffin, proof that sometimes 'happy ever after' doesn't exist. I wouldn't be the man that breaks up a family.

Back at the loft, sometime later

"So where's Rose staying while she's here?" Rick curiously asked

"At a hotel, she's only here for a few days, she'll move back in with her parents."

Rick moves behind Layton and wraps his arms around her waist

"You know if you wanted you could have told her to stay here with us, we have an extra bedroom." He plants a kiss on her neck and she turns to face him.

"I think you just wanted to spend some more time with Violet, someone has baby fever." She jokes

"Nah I'm in no rush, I want to spend as much time as I can with you first before I have to share you, plus men can have babies in their 70's and women in their 40's so we still have plenty of time."

"Well I'm sure it won't be such a long wait, what is it about seeing a man that's good with children that makes a women's hormones go crazy, argh Rick." She complains and he finds it amusing

"Let's go to the beach mi amor, we can catch the afternoon waves and sunset." He suggests

Layton's p.o.v

The beach, salty air and sand between our toes. This has become Rick and I's 'home away from home', our 'spot'. We share so many happy memories here, it's like the sound of the crashing waves is enough to make life's stresses seem irrelevant.

I had taken a book to read while Rick did a few laps in the water. Once done he was back at my side. I watched the water droplets glisten down his skin and his wet messy hair was daring me to run my hands through it.

"Clean thoughts Layton, we are in public and we don't want to get sand in certain places" I had that on loop in my head. It's a beautiful thing really, that no matter how many times I see him like this, I still get butterflies like the first time.

End of p.o.v

"You look THIRSTY love, can I get you anything?" a mischievous and satisfied expression beamed across Rick's face.

"Oh you think you funny Mr.?" Layton moves over to him and starts tickling him relentlessly.

Between the laughs and Rick's heavy breathing things seemed normal in the situation, until he couldn't breathe and started coughing up blood.

Layton panicked but soon survival mode kicked in, she carefully helped Rick into the car and rushed him to the hospital probably violating most road rules but in that moment she didn't care, he was her main priority.
