⊱ ─ First Game Fail ─ ⊰
Daisy laid in her bed staring up at the ceiling, she wasn't really keen on the game today 'cause she knew the team was gonna lose and Coach Bombay was not gonna be impressed. He hadn't taught them anything nor had he held any practice in the two days he had been their Coach which wasn't the greatest. Jesse and Daisy knew they were just gonna be an embarrassment playing against the Hawks and it was gonna suck... Big time! Daisy had practised down at the lake by herself the night before knowing she needed it.
Once Daisy got to the rink, she spotted Fulton Reed walking up to the building which made her smile. "Hey Fulton!" Daisy called out catching the taller boy's attention. He turned to Daisy with a smile as she caught up to him, "Hey Daisy." Daisy smiled up at him as they walked in together. "Ready for the game?" Fulton asks as Daisy took deep breaths. "Nope, we are gonna suck like usual. Any tips?" Daisy asks the taller boy who smiled at her, "Just do your best." Daisy nodded happily before waving to Fulton and rushing to the locker room to get ready.
She said her greetings to the team in the locker room before walking around the lockers to her own locker next to Connie's who was looking over at Guy as he spoke with Averman. "Keep staring like that and he'll think you're in love," Daisy teased snapping Connie from her staring. "Oh, shut up!" Connie replies after lightly shoving her causing both of them to laugh. The two girls finished getting ready and headed out to the bench where Coach Bombay was waiting and soon enough the rest of the team came out and sat down.

The team went out onto the ice for warmups but every puck hit was a fail until Daisy skated up and took her shot hitting it into the net perfectly. Bombay took a moment, noticing the familiar skills and though he wouldn't voice it, he was impressed by her obvious natural talent for hockey. Daisy let out a sigh as she looked over at the Hawks watching their perfect form and great teamwork before looking over to District Five only to witness Karp and Jesse teasing Peter again. "Hawks! Hawks! Hawks!" The crowd cheered causing a headache to form in Daisy's mind, she already wanted to go home.
Jesse skated over to Daisy and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "Are you alright?" Daisy looked at Jesse and nodded before resting her head on his shoulder, "I want to leave already." Jesse looked at her with a sad smile. One thing Daisy Jacobs and Hawks player, Adam Banks have in common was that they both took Ice Hockey seriously. Daisy wanted to play in the pro's one day but with her peewee team struggling this much, what can she really learn? Jesse and Terry always went out of their way to support the blonde girl, the Hall brothers truly believed that she'd get there one day.
The team came together and McGill skated over from the Hawks, "Hey girls and geeks!" Daisy rolled her eyes as he glared at her, he wasn't over the time Daisy, Averman and Jesse messed with the Hawks' shower heads resulting in them having neon pink dyed hair for two weeks. Karp was fired up and ready to attack, Daisy and Jesse pulled the boy back as McGill laughed and skated away. Daisy looked over to the Hawks spotting Adam Banks looking at her, he smiled slightly before focusing back on Coach Reilly as he hyped up the kids.
The eleven District Nine kids skated over to the bench where Coach Bombay attempted to hype up his team copying the Hawks' "Win! Win! Win!" only for them to look at him in confusion and disbelief. Coach Bombay had the kids copy the Hawks and hit Goldberg's chin pads as they skated by only for Charlie to hit him hard enough to knock him over. Daisy and Connie stood behind Averman, Karp and Coach Bombay as Jesse, Guy and Terry skated over to center across from three Hawks players. "What's this? The Oreo Line?" McGill teased making his friends laugh while Jesse went to attack him only for Guy to stop him.
Averman, as per usual, was speaking complete nonsense, "Hum, batter, batter. Hum, batter, batter. Hey, batter, batter. Swing, batter, batter." Until Coach Bombay turned to look at him, "Averman! It's Hockey! There's no batter. Idiot." Daisy looked up at Coach Bombay with a slight glare but Averman shrugged it off, "Hum, goalie, goalie. Hum, goalie, goalie. Hey, goalie, goalie." Daisy laughed quietly as she shook her head at her best friends playful antics despite Coach Bombay's decision to walk away from him.
The team was being crushed out on the ice as they all continued to fall over, Jesse almost getting into fights with the bullies on the Hawks team. Goldberg was complaining as he failed to do his simple job, stop the puck. Daisy was on the edge of her seat wanting to force her way onto the ice until Coach Bombay called for a line change, Connie smiled sympathetically at Daisy who was still stuck on the bench watching as the Hawks went straight for Connie cornering her into the boards. Daisy looked up at Coach Bombay waiting for her chance to go on but nothing was said as Banks knocked Charlie to the floor.
The crowd chanted "Win! Win! Win!" as Daisy stood up and leaned against the boards awaiting her chance on the ice. Soon enough it was halftime and the team gathered into the box for a quick break. "They're killing us out there!" Bombay snapped after ripping the bottle from Goldberg, "How many times do I have to tell you? Get those rebounds, get your heads up! Get those loose pucks. Get, just... Just get the hell out of here." Daisy looked up at Bombay who nodded at her making her smile before going onto the ice.
Bombay let out a sigh, "Jacobs! Take center!" Daisy nodded and headed to the center facing off against Adam. "He's finally letting you play?" Adam asks sincerely. "Yeah, our coach kind of sucks... guess he really matches the team," Daisy replies making Adam smile at her before they focused back on the game. As soon as the ref blew the whistle, Daisy took the puck and passed it to Guy as those two managed to work well on the ice. Guy passed the puck back to Daisy who then psyched the Hawks goalie and scored.
The team cheered for Daisy and hugged her in celebration. Daisy was in the face-off against McGill, they fought for the puck and Daisy had won. She quickly skated around him and passed the puck to Averman who quickly passed it back to Daisy before being checked to the side. Daisy looked around quickly before passing the puck to Charlie who had a clear shot as she tried to keep the Hawks players away from him. But despite his great skating skills and good form, the Spazway slipped and went straight into the boards only for Banks to ram into him.
Daisy skated over to Charlie, "Need a hand?" Charlie let out a sigh before letting Daisy help him up. "Time out!" Coach Riley hollered before motioning his team to huddle together. District Five huddled up at their own bench and Bombay turned to Daisy, "That was a good shot, I wanna see more!" Daisy smiled slightly and nodded. They took their places on the ice, Daisy was facing off against Adam again who looked at her slightly worried. "Hey, watch out for McGill," Adam warned Daisy who glanced at the mentioned boy and noticed the harsh glare on his face.
Daisy smiled at Adam, "Thanks, Banks." He nodded slightly as the ref blew the whistle, the two players fought for the puck and Daisy won. She skated away with the puck, passing to Connie and dodging Larson before Connie passed the puck back to her. As Daisy went to shoot the puck again, McGill came up and shoved her down hard causing the crowd to gasp. Connie and Jesse skated over to Daisy and helped her up as she took careful breaths, the ref grabbed McGill and took him to the penalty box.
Bombay opened the box door and Averman helped Daisy in before helping her sit on the bench. Peter took Daisy's helmet off and brushed her short hair from her face, "Are you okay?" Daisy closed her eyes holding her side as she nodded. "Just need a minute or two, I'll be fine," Daisy tells them but Bombay wasn't gonna risk it. "You're sitting out for the remainder of the game, Jacobs," Bombay tells her sternly making her look up at him with sad eyes. Daisy didn't try and fight back knowing that his decision was final, so instead, she had to sit back and watch the team lose again.

District Five lost badly and Coach Bombay was not happy at all, Daisy actually feared for her team knowing the standards Bombay was known for. "I thought we came here to play hockey!?" Bombay barked at the team to which Daisy leaned into Jesse hoping to escape the yelling coach, the Hall boy wrapped an arm around her waist being careful with her sore side. "You know, I knew we forgot something," Peter comment making the team laugh, while Daisy tried to hide her face in Jesse's shoulder to stop herself from laughing.
Coach Bombay wasn't amused, "Oh, you think it's funny? You think losing is funny?" Daisy looked up at Bombay with a blank expression. "Well, not at first, but once you get the hang of it," Averman tells the Coach. "We're the ones out there gettin' our butts kicked," Jesse added making everyone agree with him. "Yeah, it's not like you coach us or anything. At least we tried," Terry continues while Peter verbally agrees. "You didn't listen to a word I said. I said, keep your heads up. You put your heads down. I said, hustle. You went slower!" Bombay snapped.
Daisy looked down as she slumped in her seat, it felt like she was back in mathematics class with all the negative yelling. "That was the sloppiest playing I've ever seen. Why the hell won't you just listen to me?" Bombay asks angrily. Jesse let go of Daisy and stood up, "Why the hell should we?" Jesse made his way out of the box to the locker room. "I don't care. You want to lose, fine. You're the ones who look like idiots out there," Bombay says before walking off onto the ice while the team went off to the locker room to get changed.

Daisy walked home slowly from the rink, she had the loss trapped in her mind. Her side wasn't as sore anymore but the team doctor still recommended that she takes it easy. "Daisy!" A sudden voice caught her attention, she stopped and turned to see Adam Banks running up to her. "Hey, Banksy, good game today. You're still the best player," Daisy said with her usual sweet smile as they continued walking. "Thanks, Daisy. I'm sorry about McGill, he didn't hurt you too badly, did he?" Adam asks sincerely. Daisy shook her head, "Nope. I'll be fine, don't worry about me."
The two continued talking about random topics before saying goodbye once they reached Daisy's house. Daisy up to the door, unlocking it with her key before closing it behind her. She noticed the note on the fridge and instantly knew that her mother was working the night shift again meaning she'd have to sort out her own dinner and clean up. With a sigh, she walked over to the record player and began playing some Elvis Presley before she started cleaning the house.
She made herself spaghetti for dinner and had some chocolate cake that she decided to make randomly for dessert before she finished off her homework, having a shower as soon as she finished. Once she was finally relaxed, she sat down on her bed and began reading until she started to feel sleepy. She climbed into bed and switched off her lamp slowly closing her eyes and letting sleep overcome her as she prayed tomorrow would be a better day at practice.
