Kane and Jaha looked up as the gate to their cell opened and two grounders with mask entered followed by a buff ma with a tattoo on his face and a girl with snow blonde hair carrying a jug of walker.

The leader nodded to Jaha and they rushed over and began to hit him as Kane yelled.

" We came in peace " Kane yelled " We came in peace, please ".

The grounders stopped and pulled Jaha up and the commander looked at the small girl behind him and she put her head down and limped over to an empty corner and placed the jug of water down before sitting.

" You speak of peace, yet you send and assassin into one of my village " the commander growled.

" what are you talking about? " Kane asked in confusion.

" Blood....must have blood " he replied and grabbed a dagger from his belt " One of you will die, here....today by the others hand, I will hear the terms of your surrender......from the man, who lives " he then threw it on the ground.

" Fetch us, when it's done "  The commander said to the girl in the corner in grounder tongue before walking out.

1 hour later

It had been an our since the ultimatum and the men were sat on the ground as the girl was tucked away in the corner of the room with her back to them.

" They want us to turn on each other " Jaha said.

" They want justice " the girl spoke causing both men to look at her.

" Lives have been lost on both sides " Kane spat and began to yell as he ripped his jacket off " THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO END THIS WAR ".

The girl just looked at him.

Jaha stood and walked over to the girl and kneeled in front of her as she shifted away.

" What's your name? " Jaha asked.

" Kota " she replied.

" Kota....." Jaha repeated and introduced himself " I'm Thelonious......" he then pointed to Marcus, who looked at her harshly " and this his Marcus.......your commander spoke of....an assassin in a village? ".

" Yes " Kota nodded as she looked down " 18 of our people were murdered......elders......" she looked at the man in front of her as she continued " children ".

Jaha and Kane looked at each other.

" We had nothing to do with that " Kane replied.

" It doesn't matter.....the commander thinks you did " Kota said and she looked at them " One of you must pick up the knife......that is our way ".

" And if we refuse? " Jaha asked.

" Then the commander will use it to slit both of your throats " Kota replied.

5 hours later

" this has gone on long enough " Jaha said as he pushed himself off the wall, he was leaning on " There has to be some other way to resolve this.....something, we haven't thought of yet ".

" There isn't " Kota responded and quickly looked down, when Jaha looked at her.

" She's right, they're not budging " Kane said.

Kota watched as Jaha leaned to his friend and began to whisper as she watched cautiously, Kane then stood and grabbed the knife.

" Marcus, what are you doing? " Jaha asked.

" If we don't make a choice......then we'll both die " Kane replied and looked at the girl in the corner before continuing " and the killing won't end ".

Kane then faced Jaha, who stood and watched as Kane held the knife with caution.

" There's only one way out of this " Kane said and walked to his friend causing Kota to stand up and she watched as he gave the knife to Jaha " You have to kill me.....you have to do this, it's our only choice ".

" Kane, no " Jaha replied.

" They respect strength, let's show them ours " Kane said.

" I said.....no " Jaha replied sternly " You did not order the massacre ".

" Not that one " Kane sighed.

" Marcus, you don't need redemption " Jaha reassured his friend " The choice, we made on the Ark was about survival, we did what we had to, so that the human race could survive ".

" The human race was already surviving " Kane snapped.

" Then we did it for our people " Jaha yelled.

" Yes and now we must do this.....it's the only way " Kane replied.

" Not gonna happen " Jaha shook his head.

" Your a good man, Thelonious.....I won't let you die for me " Kane said and walked backwards and used the knife to slit his wrist causing Jaha to yell in panic.

Jaha flipped Kane over and held onto his Bleeding wrist and looked at Kota " Help us, please ".

Kota paused before grabbing a bandage from the bag next to her and limped over to Jaha and handed it to him and he placed it on his friends writs.

" I told you.....we didn't come all this way to die " Jaha said before grabbing the knife and then Kota and held it to her neck.

" Thelonious, no " Kane shouted.

" I chose to live " Jaha replied.

The commander rushed into the room with four warriors and a girl behind him.

" Take off these chains " Jaha demanded.

" Thelonious, please....she's just an innocent girl " Kane pleaded.

Kota looked at the man and girl before speaking in their language " He made his choice......this one's mine ".

Kota hit the man holding her in the face causing him to loosen his hold and she then proceeded to break his arm and flip him over and held the knife to his neck.

" Okay " Jaha nodded in surrender.

Kota stood and looked at the people in front of her " I've heard, what I needed to hear ".

" Yes, commander " they replied bowing as she turned with her back to them and faced her prisoner.

She held the knife up and one of the warriors grabbed it as the girl behind her grabbed Kota's shoulder armour from the man next to her and placed it onto the blonde's petite shoulders and Kota clipped it on herself.

" You're the commander? " Kane said in shock.

" I've learned much about you " Kota said as she walked to Kane " It's clear, your intentions are honourable.....your desire for peace is true " she turned her head slightly " Free him ".

Her two of her warriors walked over and began to unchain Kane.

" We will talk later....in the meantime, you friend will be used to send a message " Kota replied, she nodded her head and one of the warriors held Kane back as he protested and the other three warriors began to hit Jaha before lifting him up.

The warriors dragged Jaha out as the other let Kane go.

" The massacre must be answered......blood must have blood " Kota said before leaving the cell.

Kota was in the bath as Lexa wiped all the dirt off of her with a rag.

" Are you sure, you're okay? " Lexa asked for the fifth time.

" Yes, I'm fine " Kota laughed " You don't have to worry ".

" I'm always going to worry " Lexa replied.

" Your the best friend a girl could ever ask for " Kota smiled and leaned over kissing Lexa's cheek.

Lexa smiled at the contact but couldn't help the growing pit in here stomach at the word " Best friend ".
