I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for a new day, something that rarely happens for me. I figured it was because it was the first time I got to sleep on my own bed in so long. The sun was shining in my eyes causing me to squint at my clock, it read 9:57. I rolled over and threw my blankets off, stretching dramatically and picked up my phone on the way out of my bedroom.

My phone buzzed 3 times in a row as I started the coffee pot. I unlocked it and saw they were messages from Alex. I shook my head and smiled a little bit making my hair untie itself from my ponytail.

Alex: V wake up :))

Alex: Babyyyy

Alex: V***

V:
How did you even make that typo?

V:
???

I laughed quietly to myself knowing she would come up with some excuse whether is was a typo or not. It made me think. I still really like Alex and while yes Lilah just left we broke up nearly a year ago. The thought had a slightly bitter after taste to me, I was so wrapped up in trying to help someone who didn't want my help that I pushed aside all of my personal feelings and today it feels like they've just crashed back down. My phone interrupted my chain of thought.

Alex: well you see here...

V:
Yes?

Alex: I got really lazy and didn't want to type so I used the voice thingie and let's just say we aren't friends.

V:
You got too lazy...

V:
To type one letter???

Alex: erm yes lol

Alex: btw I'm about to knock on your door

I thought she was joking but hardly seconds after that text was sent a loud knock came from the front of my house. I went over to it slowly and opened the door sure enough there she was. I was suddenly aware of the fact that I was in my sports bra and spandex shorts. Her face flushed and needless to say mine did as well. I invited her in.

"Hey, so what made you want to just drop in without warning?" I asked throwing on my hoodie.

"Hey, I gave you a warning! But I don't know I just wanted to come over."

"Okay hun, sure."

"Hey," she started.

"Hi."

She sent me a glare and continued, "So I've been wondering for like awhile now and I've been wanting to ask and I know that you'd probably say no and I don't know I'm really nervous hence the rambling but would you uh maybe want to go out...on a date...with me?"

I stared at her in shock, maybe things could work out for me after all.

"Of course."

She smiled and I returned it. Maybe sometimes just sometimes I need to fight for myself so more things like that can happen who could have thought a smile so genuine could be so beautiful. After all you can't be everyone else's fighter.
