I knew I shouldn't have let Alex go but she was probably right, I'd been keeping up the tough act all my life, maybe it was time for a change. I lighty wiped the tears out of my eyes and pulled out my phone. It opened to the picture of me and Lilah.
I sighed heavily, having no more tears to cry, and set the phone down. I knew deep down I would never get with Lilah again. It crushed me to know that I wasn't enough to keep her alive.
I gave my face a light tap, "No, we are going to deal with this like an adult." I told myself.
I sat in there and waited for the doctor to come in and tell me I could go home. When she finally did I thanked her and called Jim asking for a ride home. He showed up around 20 minutes later.
"Hey, how are you doing?" He asked concerned.
"I'm actually doing really well, with everything."
He understood my point.
We talked on the way home, he bragged about Simon being so beautiful last night and how he could sing so well. I found it so sweet how he felt about him.
"You guys have been dating a while right?"
"Yep almost 2 years."
"You think you're going to, yknow, pop the question?"
He gave me an excited smile, his eyes shining as he pulled up to my house and reached into the dash. He pulled out a small velvet box, he gently opened it inside was a beautiful ring. It was a band with 3 smalls diamonds surrounded by tinier diamonds. I looked at him with a large smile.
"I'm so happy for you Jim!"
He thanked me as I left his truck.
I took a breath and entered my house. It was quiet, the air was still and stuffy like no one had been here in awhile. I shut the door quietly and creeped up stairs to my room. The door was cracked open, I placed my hand on it gently and opened it all the way praying it wouldn't creak. Lilah was asleep, curled into a small ball on my bed with one of my huge black t shirts on. Then again she probably didn't think to buy any sleeping clothes when I gave her my card. I tried not to think about her sleeping in my shirt in a way that was more than platonic. However, in the most platonic way possible, her light purple hair was sprawled everywhere like her pale limbs.
My phone buzzed lightly in my pocket as I shut the door leaving it cracked how I found it.
I opened the message on my way down the stairs.
Alex: hey bitxh
I laughed to myself and replied. Unfortunately I ended up falling alseep on the couch with my phone flat on my face.
For once it was a peaceful sleep, I didn't toss or turn, and I got a decent amount. My dreams weren't haunted with pictures of Lilah in a bathtub and I was okay.

A loud clatter of metal caused me to wake up from my peaceful slumber. I looked around confused by the bright light streaming in through the windows, my eyes squinted. Standing up to stretch I walked into the kitchen. Lilah was on the floor picking up a pan.
I let out a laugh that I didn't mean to let slip through. Her eyes shot up and she held the pan like a weapon before realizing it was me and laughing slightly.
"You woke me up." I deadpanned taking the pan away from her.
"O-oh I'm sorry."
"Its fine I promise, anyways what're you doing?"
She shrugged slightly towards the pan on the stove, "I was about to try and make breakfast but like I'm really clumsy."
"Breakfast for yourself?"
"Well, kind of, like, I mean I was lowkey only going to eat a really small amount and let you eat the leftovers."
I grimaced at the stutter in her words so she wasn't trying that hard to recover.
"Stop, its not your problem anymore let her go, let her heal how she has to." I reminded myself.
"Well that sounds like a plan." I said gently as I left the kitchen.
She smiled.
I left the kitchen and quietly let a few tears slip our of my eyes, this was going to be hard but I know that things will be okay. Pain is temporary, it's there to make us stronger. And it truly would.
