ROADTRIP!
BILLIE LOVED MAKING NEW FRIENDS, SO IT WASN'T SHOCKING FOR HER TO GET ALONG WELL WITH THE QUILEUTE PACK.
Especially Embry, now that the secret of their existence was out— meaning he could stop all the avoidance that he dished out before Jacob had phased, too.
She could see what all the hype was about: the members of the pack were loud and energetic, two traits that Billie herself had. Though their rambunctiousness did have her on the edge of her seat, Sam's fiancée Emily was always quick to remind her that the boys were practically made of steel, and that they couldn't be hurt that easily.
It was a full week of trying to balance her new reservation friends and her Forks friends, and by Friday, when she was already on her way to the Newton residence, she realized she was meant to meet Bella and grab some history study notes. Mike was always easygoing, told her that they'd reschedule their video game night to another day, but also made sure to ask the blonde to send Bella his regards. Oh yeah, he was still on that.
Pulling her car into her friend's driveway that evening, she turned the engine off before walking up to the front door.
Only, when she approached, she noticed that although the lights were off, the door was actually ajar. Nudging it open fully with her foot, the wood paneling unleashing a large creek, she yelled into the home. "Bells?"
The blonde took a tentative step inside, feeling around on the wall for the light switch. When she found it, she flicked it on and unleashed a shriek at the sight of one Alice Cullen sitting on the Swan's couch. Her breathing was suddenly ragged, a hand pressed to her heart as the girl— no, vampire, rose from the couch. "Oh my god, Alice!" she all but screamed, noting how the girl in question raised her hands in surrender. "Do you just enjoy sitting alone in the dark?!"
"I'm sorry—" she rushed out, blinking away a sudden haze that overtook her eyes. "Where's Bella?"
Billie shook her head. "You tell me, I'm just here to get study notes!" she said, still a little frazzled. Alice came to where she was standing by the door, inquisition in her amber eyes. The vampire didn't have the chance to answer before Billie heard footsteps coming up from behind her. From her spot in the foyer, the girl that they were both looking for waltzed through the doorway soaking wet. "What the—"
"Alice?!" Bella breathed out, instantly jumping into the Cullen girl's confused embrace. She looked nearly frantic at the sight of the vampire. "What are you—"
"Would you like to explain to me how you're alive?" Alice questioned with a sort of anxiousness that was rare to see on her.
Billie blinked, fully taking in Bella's teary eyes and wet clothing. "Bella... where have you been?" she asked slowly, and it was then that the girl's attention started snapping between them both.
"I saw a vision of you," Alice started, "you jumped off a cliff. Why in the hell would you try and kill yourself?"
The blonde girl bristled at the accusation, looking to her brunette friend with a pleading look. Don't admit it, don't admit it.
"I didn't try to kill myself," the Swan girl argued back, cutting off Alice's rant. "I was cliff jumping... recreationally. It was fun."
Billie nearly screamed once more at that, a vein in her forehead pulsating at her sudden anger. The Burbank girl valued responsibility and safety above all, and to her, there was no such thing as safe recreational cliff jumping— much less cliff jumping alone. At least the pack did it together in case something were to happen, but Bella? Bella had risked her life.
The three girls migrated over to the couch. "I've never met anyone more prone to life-threatening idiocy," Alice told the girl, clear exasperation on her face. "And you know, too?"
That last part was directed at Billie, and the question was clear. "Yeah, I know about your family's dietary restrictions," she mumbled out from her spot on the end of the couch, Bella in between them with a blanket over her shoulders.
Bella piped up next. "Did you— I mean, did you tell h—"
"No," Alice responded, lips pursed as Bella gestured for her to explain. "He only calls Rose once every few months... says he wants to be alone." There was a beat of silence before her nose shrivelled up. "What is that god-awful wet dog smell?"
Billie tentatively sniffed the air, gesturing her thumb in the brunette's direction. "Might be Bella," she laughed, trying to bring a little bit of light to this already tensed situation.
Then, Bella revealed that the smell might actually be coming from Jacob. "He's... kind of a werewolf."
Alice scoffed, distastefully. "Bella! Werewolves are not good company to keep."
Billie's eyes widened at that, a sudden burst of protectiveness over her new friends coming forward. "They didn't up and leave Bella in the woods alone, though. I think that alone makes them great company."
"Yeah, and speak for yourself."
Another voice, one that belonged to Jacob Black, sounded throughout the space. Alice was up at her feet in an instant, looking at the boy as though he was an intruder— and Billie didn't like it, not one bit.
"I had to see you were safe," he said, looking solely at Bella like she was the only one in the room.
"Well I'm not gonna hurt her," Alice refuted, taken aback by the obvious insinuation in the boy's statement.
No, this wasn't a conversation she needed to be a part of. "Uh— Bella?" she called out to the girl still seated on the couch next to her. She rose, gesturing to the staircase. "Can I just grab the study notes, and then I'll be out of your hair?"
Bella, thankfully, could tell that Billie was about to crawl out of her own skin. The girl hated confrontation of any kind, much less the supernatural kind. "Sure, they're in my desk," she nodded, and that was all the permission Billie needed to scurry towards the stairs.

Billie took her sweet time in trying to locate the history notes Bella promised to give her. Hell, she'd say in the girl's desk chair and simply looked at the desk without making any move to search for the papers at first.
The chatter downstairs raged on, though she couldn't really hear much of it. Eventually though, she did pry open her friend's desk drawers only to be met with loose papers everywhere— and so, her search for the history notes began.
All of five minutes later, though, the chatter downstairs ramped up significantly. It was louder, the three voices downstairs all speaking over one another while footsteps were rushing up the stairs.
Bella tore into the door, grabbing her school bag and opening her closet. "Woah, what's going on?" Billie asked, watching her friend shove some clothes and her damn passport into her backpack. "Bella, hold on—"
"Edward's in trouble," the brunette rushed out, now searching for her wallet. "I'm going to Italy with Alice to go save him."
The Burbank girl's mouth dropped open. "Uh, no you're not," she scoffed out, and that made her friend stop in her tracks. "This isn't just a roadtrip to Seattle... this is Italy we're talking about!"
"I'm going, and I'm not asking for your permission, Billie," Bella retaliated, zipping up her backpack with haste.
Billie tugged her bottom lip between her teeth before a string of words toppled out of her mouth. "Then I'm coming with you!" she blurted out, standing from the desk chair she'd put herself in.
"Billie—"
"No, Bella. Who the hell's gonna keep you out of trouble out there?" she questioned fiercely, and when she got received silence, she nodded. "That's what I thought... you're so lucky I keep my passport in my purse."
It wasn't that she didn't trust Alice, she seemed nice enough, but what if she was an enabler. Billie would personally make it her to job get Bella in and out of the country without mishap.
So much for not getting involved, though.
