"My mother is a petty trader. She sells at the market. Getting a scholarship is my only hope of attending the higher institution!" April says. Dumlesi's expression caught her attention.

Science brought up the fact that she was always reading and did not have time for herself. Because she had not been consistent in the hostel since they announced the midterm test.

"What about your father?" Light asks, clearly playing with his food.

"He is late. His family never accepted my mother. They took everything after he died! They even threw us out of our house," April recalls.

"I am so sorry about that!" Light says.

“Are you the only child?" Science inquiries.

"No! I have an older sister!" April responds.

"Wow!"

"What was your Physics score?" April tries to change the subject.

"17!" Light reacts with a smile, totally forgetting their previous topic. "How about you?" He inquires.

"20!" April grins.

Wendy, who was already fed up with her friends' awkward stares, finally closes her book. They were in their usual spot. A lawn adjacent to the cafeteria.

"What?" Wendy asks.
"What is with the look?" She inquires.

"I was wondering if I knew you at all!" Boma speaks with a folded arm.

"Meaning?" Wendy asks.

"Meaning, you had something with that useless thing Tari, and we had no idea!" Boma says looking grim.

"He is not a useless thing!" Wendy fires. Boma chuckles.

"No wonder." Precious nods her head. Making the three friends look in her direction.

"No wonder?" Wendy inquires with a raised eyebrow.

"I always wondered where Tari got the guts to abuse and mock you when no guy in the class can talk back at you. Why wouldn't he, when he had been fucking you!" Precious speaks without pausing.

The expression on Wendy's face was priceless.

"The funniest part is, we never knew. They just stopped seeing each other last term. Wendy, what else don't we know about you?" Boma asks.

"You both should stop barking. I knew all along. Besides, it's nothing important. Their Mums are best friends, they literally grew up together. What else do you want to know? What's the issue?" Darlintina asks.

Boma and Precious turns to them with a raised eyebrow.

"The issue is that we are best friends. Keeping things from each other is bad, Wendy; if I had heard it from someone else, I would not have believed it!" Boma confirms.

"Did you two date?" Precious asks Wendy, who stares at them, clearly tired of their questions.

"No," Wendy says, turning to her friends, who look at her as if she is grown two heads.

"You two never dated!" Precious asks, like she didn't believe her.

"His mom and my mom are best friends. His mother is not always present in town. She is a businesswoman. Tari and his younger sister spend almost every holiday at my house." Wendy explains.

"Til now!"

"Yes, he spent the last holiday at my house. We have nothing to do with each other any more!" Wendy says.

"It began when we were asked to read together while still in junior secondary. His mum said his grades were very low compared to mine. So she forced him to start studying with me, telling me that he needed to brush up. It began with a harmless kiss; I honestly wanted to know how being kissed felt. I was just a stupid girl who wanted to feel what I saw in movies, and Ibinabor assured me it felt good. So I decided to try it." Wendy explains. The expressions on her friends' faces were priceless. Her voice sounded low.

"We began smooching after stealing kisses, and whenever we were asked to study, we would start touching each other. It lasted for a while. It was as if I became addicted to it."

The look on Wendy's face was priceless. She paused for a moment and looked at Boma.

"Kenny suspected we were doing something wrong, but he could not put his hands on it." She pauses and takes a deep breath before continuing her conversation.

"We kept fooling around whenever we were asked to study, and I eventually lost my pride to him. I swear, I was carried away. Before I could comprehend what I had done. He had broken my hymen. I was scared at first. I told Ibinabor about it, then we were still talking, she told me I shouldn't be scared since I hadn't started seeing my period. That she lost hers when she was nine. I stopped talking to Tari for a while. Then I realized I was just tossing the blame on him. We both did it!" Wendy says this while looking up at Precious' face.

"Precious stop judging me with your eyes!" She half yells.

"I am not!" Precious responds, giving her a look.

"We started it again. Whenever we had the opportunity, we would fool around under the guise of studying. We stopped having sex in school as soon as I started getting my period. However, it did not prevent us from touching each other. I just became addicted to him. Wendy says now, hugging herself.

"If I told you that I suspected you two. Then I am a big fat lair!" Precious speaks.

"It started out as something casual, but it turned out to be fun. The problem started when emotions became attached to it. Tari gets offended whenever he sees me with a boy, whether in the estate or at church. Tari gets offended whenever he sees me with a boy, whether in the estate or at church. He asked me to be his girlfriend at the end of the first term. I declined, telling him that I was not interested. I did not want to be distracted academically." She paused.

"He did not mention it again. We kept seeing each other. He asked me out again after I experienced my first pregnancy scare. I declined, and he stopped talking to me. During the Easter holidays, I attempted to communicate with him. He said I was ashamed of him, which is why I refused to associate with him because he was not as intelligent as I was. That is why I never spoke to him in class and only met him secretly. That is why I never spoke to him in class and only met him secretly. He told me if that was not the case, I should date him. I said no. That is where the hatred originated."

" He stopped talking to me; whenever he came for vacation, he would invite one of his girls over, making it appear as if I was not present. To top it all. He took advantage of every opportunity to abuse me at school, and I am sure Efe was the one who instigated him." Wendy explains.

"Does it hurt?" Boma inquires, causing Wendy to turn towards her. With that question, it appeared as if she was mocking her.

"Of course it does. Someone you have feelings for is treating you like trash. How will you feel?" Wendy questioned with a raised eyebrow. "I love Tari, but I can not be his girlfriend. Emotions makes you weak. I tried my best to stop it but I couldn't." She confesses.

"Obviously like trash!" Boma concludes.

"Wait, Wendy." Precious chuckles. "You have feelings for Tari?" She asked in an amused tone. This causes Wendy to hiss.

"Tari was my first. We had a three-year sexual relationship. Why won't feelings get attached? Despite the fact that I never wanted it!" Wendy says, then covers her face with her hands.

"It is just surprising. Tari is undeniably cute, and I adore his physique." Precious says.

Wendy immediately turns to Precious.

"But, Wendy, he is not in your category. I have always known you to associate with academically successful individuals...

"Precious, no need to explain. I understand you. Wendy is totally ashamed of him. That explains it!" Boma concludes.

"I don't want a boyfriend. I don't want to date anyone till i am out of secondary school. I am not ashamed of him." Wendy half yells.

"But you can open your legs for them?" Boma asks. Wendy's facial expression hardens.

"It's just been Tari and no one else. So what's with opening your legs for them?" Raising an eyebrow, Wendy queries. "I am obviously not you!" Wendy says she is attempting to irritate Boma. However, Boma does not seem prepared for her.

"So, you refusing to date him is the reason Tari hates you,"

Wendy cuts Boma shut, "Because he thinks I am ashamed of him."

"He asks for a relationship but lacks common sense. when it is obvious that he own the honey pot!" Turning to her friends, Precious asks. Wendy snarls.

"For him to want a relationship. He really likes you, At least he sees some good in you. Because which guy would want to date a bitch? " Precious scoffs. "You should be happy a guy likes you at least because everyone hates you. Wendy!" Precious says.

"Must you rub it in my face. Who told you every guy hates me. You are mistaken. because the number of love letters I get is incalculable! You ought to be concerned about yourself," Wendy gloats. causing Precious to smile.

"The anonymous ones? No one can walk up to you and ask you out. But there is no week I don't get advances." Precious says.

"That's because you look cheap! Let me rephrase. It's because you are cheap." Wendy says automatically infuriating Precious. Boma laughter didnt help either.

"And because you have got so much pride in you. Wendy don't let it destroy you!" Precious comments.

"Whatever, " Wendy says.

"You are just jealous. Because guys are always coming for me not you!" Precious says with a smile that didn't meet her eyes.

"Flatter yourself! It's normal to always give yourself some hopes." Wendy laughs.

"Hey, hey. You girls should stop it!' Darlintina who knew what was going to happen next says.
