Wendy looks through the window, completely lost in her world. The ride home appears to be taking longer than necessary. But why not? When her father came to pick her up.

"Baby!" Kelvin calls out, still gripping the steering wheel. When he doesn't get a response, he tones his voice higher. "Wendy!" He calls out.

Wendy, who appeared distracted, turns to him immediately, looking perplexed. Shutting her eyes, she tries to remember what her father said.

"You are very quiet today. It is unlike you! What is wrong?" Kelvin asks looking for a clear space to pack.

"Dad, it's nothing!" Wendy says while staring ahead. She turns to her father with a raised eyebrow as soon as the car comes to a stop.

"Do not say it is nothing. We will not leave until you tell me what is wrong," Kelvin says, as if he could read her mind. Wendy shrugs and gives him a disbelieving expression. "Wendy!" He calls out, turning to her.

"There is a new girl at school!" Wendy draws a deep breath.

"Is she bullying you?" Kelvin inquires almost immediately.

Wendy scoffed.
"Dad, you realize it is the other way around!" She smiles and turns to Kelvin, who has a blank expression. "She appears to be smarter, Dad; she outperformed me on the midterm test. I do not want to fail? Wendy says this with a face full of emotion.

"Wendy, we both know you never fail. You are at the top!" Kelvin acknowledges her with a smile.

"Dad, you do not understand. I shouldn't be part of the tops. But stay at the top. I should be better than everyone!" Wendy tries to explain.

"You are sounding like your mother!" Kelvin says with a serious expression.

"If I do not come out on top, I will be grounded for the holidays. Mum will lock me up like usual. I know what I went through last vacation, " Wendy says with a worried expression.

"It is your mother, as always. She is constantly looking for ways to prove that she is superior to everyone else. Wendy, you cannot kill yourself. Do within your capacity. You know daddy is always proud of you!"

"I don't want to disappoint Mum, " Wendy says with a weak smile.

"Wendy, I have never wanted you to be like the Anetes. You appear to be portraying most of their characteristics!" Kelvin says. Meanwhile, Wendy rolls her eyes.

"When will you stop hating on Uncle?" Wendy groans.

"You didn't just roll your eyes at me!" Kelvin asks with a stern look.

"I didn't, something got into my eyes!" Wendy says this while cleaning her eyes with her handkerchief. Kelvin looks at her for a moment and nods his head.

"Wendy you can always move in with me permanently. Your mother is very irresponsible." Kelvin says.

"Dad, when will you and Mum stop trying to defame yourselves in my presence?" Wendy groans.

"You know the truth. I can see the proper parenting she is providing for you. Is she always home? If I had my way, I would have taken you away from her a year ago. That idiot Robert is to blame, " Kelvin says with a serious look.

"Now it's Uncle?" Wendy inquires with a raised eyebrow. "Dad, you are also guilty; you are always busy with work," Wendy admits.

"But I still make time for you and your sisters!" Kelvin argues.

"Dad, what are you going to tell Mum?She would have had the driver pick me up. You just violated the restraining orders!" Wendy says with a serious expression.

"I will deal with her later." Kelvin says. His phone starts ringing, and he smiles. "She is the one!" Kelvin smiles, and Wendy groans.

"Look, who is calling? Monica!" Kelvin says he immediately answers the phone.

"Bastard, where is my daughter?" Monica asks. Even if Wendy was not present, she could tell she was pacing.

"You mean, our daughter?" Kelvin sneers.

"Kelvin. I am not joking with you. Wendy is supposed to be with me until Friday!" She yelled. Meanwhile, Kelvin takes the phone out of his ears.

"Slow down, Ma'am; it is Thursday, not Friday!" He speaks.

"I am glad you remembered. Daft. Why did you pick her up then?" She yelled.

"Monica, she will be at your place by Thursday. You can fuck off my phone right now!" Kelvin responds with a smile.

"Is she there with...?" He cuts the call immediately.

Wendy turns to her father, who immediately starts the engine.

"Dad, can't you both be nice to each other, at least pretend to be nice in my presence!" Wendy says with a serious expression.

"Baby, I'm going on a business trip. I need you to stay with your sisters. The nanny quit. Sophia wants you over too, " Kelvin says. Meanwhile, Wendy's face lights up.

"What about Aunt Sofia?" Wendy inquires with a raised eyebrow.

"I was granted custody. She does drugs. She is irresponsible. It might affect Sophia, you know that!" Kelvin says.

"Dad?" Wendy calls out with a calm and suspicious tone.

"I can't make the mistake of living my kids with a woman again. What if she eventually gets married again? Look the only reason I didn't fight was because your mum was still very much young!" Kelvin says. "I was young too!" He adds. Meanwhile, Wendy takes a deep breath.

"I don't know why I end up with the worst women!" Kelvin murmurs.
Wendy looks away, her focus shifting to the trees.

"Do you want to transfer to another school?" Kelvin asks, immediately capturing Wendy's attention.

"Dad," she says solemnly.

"Do not forget that you can always move in with me!" Kelvin says, focusing entirely on the road.
"Do you have a boyfriend there?" He suddenly asks. Wendy gives him a wild look.

"Dad?" Wendy calls out.

"Yes, perhaps that is why you do not want to leave!" Kelvin responds.

"Dad, there is no boyfriend. I cannot leave Hallel Colledge. "I am not a headless chicken!" Wendy explains.

"It had better be." You know boys are distraction. Any guy who tells you he loves you right now is either deceitful or confused. "It is just infatuation..."

"They just want to get in your pants!" Wendy wraps up. She knew it was her father's next speech.

"Thank God, you remember that!" Kelvin says. Wendy looks out the window. She disliked having this type of conversation with
her dad, if only he knew she started having sex when she was just thirteen, she thought and hisses aloud.

"There is this girl I am seeing; she is fifteen years younger!" Kelvin raises a topic. Wendy looks at her father with disbelief. He recently got divorced and is already seeing someone else. Not only that, but someone only three years older than her.

"Dad, she is 20!" Wendy says with a raised brow.

"And I am thirty-five. I am still very young. She is an adult baby!" Kelvin says.

"Dad, she is only three years older than me," Wendy says, frowning. She knew deep down that the person her father was talking about was the reason for his divorce, but he chose to lie about it.

"That is because I had you when I was 18! Wendy is not underage!" Kelvin says with a humorous expression.

Ibinabor tries to focus on her food, knowing that losing her appetite will be the next thing on her agenda. Her mother's expression toward her father was not particularly endearing.

As usual, Mr Anete is preoccupied with his food, as if he had not just dropped a bomb. Ibinabor could see Gillian's reaction from the corner of her eyes. She knew it wasn't going well with her.

"Robert, what nonsense is this?" Mrs Annete drops the bomb. Ibinabor drops her spoon instantly. The atmosphere was too much for her to handle.

"Susan?" With a stern expression, Mr. Anete yells.

"Gillian is just in SS2." Mr Anete defends.

"It isn't happening now, but when she is done with secondary school. She will further her education in her husband's house!" Mr Annete responds.

"He is thirty for crying out loud. Our daughter is underage!" Mrs Anete says. Meanwhile, Mr Anete pushes his food away.

"Susan. Stop acting like a responsible Mum now. We both know how irresponsible you are. When are you ever home? You are always travelling from one country to another. Attending different functions and wasting my money, do you know how I make it?" Mr Anete asks in a strict tone. Ibinabor takes a deep breath.

"Robert, shut up. Don't dare turn the table around. Always using your children for business transactions, " Mrs Annete attacks.

"Honey, I'm trying to seal a deal. Now if you can mind your business!" Mr Anete says, meanwhile his wife gives him a look of disbelief.

"Seal business deals. By turning your kids Into pawns." Mrs Annete says.

"Boma, shut up!" Mr Annete says.
Mrs Annete knew he had lost his temper. He referred to her by her native name. She inhales deeply.

"Our daughter Kiara, is in a loveless marriage. All thanks to you!" Mrs Anete says in a sober mood.

"How do you know? Are you in her home. Busybody. You won't mind your business and your home!" Me Annete says. Meanwhile, Ibinabor gets up and leaves the dining room. Her parents who didn't notice her leave, continue fighting.

"Look at what you are saying. You aren't ashamed. I see bruises on my daughter's body, but you choose to keep quiet about it. You are a lost cause." Mr Anete says, pushes her food and walks away immediately. Leaving Gillian alone at the large dining table with Mr. Anete.

Gillian picks up her food, while Mr Anete picks up his phone and starts typing furiously.
