IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT.

Very important, please do not skip it.
It might be news to some of the new readers. But this book was taken down with my previous account, and I was only fortunate to get some parts back. Currently, a chapter is missing. I can't recall everything that happened. Chapter forty-four got missing. And I am updating chapter forty-five because many of us (new readers) need updates. And this book is part of the betrayal series, the very first book, I get it that we all want to know how the story began because most of us have read the last book and its spinoff, Conflicted & Ekanem. Honestly, I have written several books, so remembering every scene can be quite difficult. And this book was started in 2020 and completed. Pardon me if I can remember some scenes.

In chapter forty-four, I can recall Jordan was high and held April on the school premises, where his friends found him. I can remember that by reading this chapter, so have that in mind, so you don't get confused as to what happened.

Note: I would eventually read the whole book soon, and edit, so I would add back the parts and put the pieces I can remember from the missing part and make it a full chapter. As for now, I am in a period of my life, where it's clouded with a lot of responsibilities. So I would eventually get back to editing everything soo.

Honestly, this missing chapter was what made me stop updating for so long.

      April grips her fork as she tries hard to roll the spaghetti. The table was quiet, which was unlike it, especially with the fact Dumlesi was present, it was just so unexpected and unlike her

For the past few days, they have been having this awkward get-together, which was becoming a method No one spoke while eating.

"I'm thinking of making my hair!" Light says automatically getting their attention, he pushes the vacant seat back and joins them.

"Seriously?" April asks with a small smile playing on her lips.

"I wonder what you will look like!" Nancy says.

"A cutie, what else?" Light asks with a cheeky smile. Meanwhile, April spares a glance at his hair, which was perfectly parked inbunss.

"That will be a new look, " Science says. Meanwhile, Dumlesi gets up almost immediately, picks up her thing,s and walks away without uttering another word.

"Someone needs to talk to her, what's going on with her? She has been acting weird." Light says, meanwhile April faces her food immediately.

"The server isn't far from here!" Nancy glares at Light who obviously tried to take her food. Making April spare them a glance before looking at her food.

"I will talk to her, something is wrong!" Science says.

"Guys chill!" Jordan groans while he tries to adjust on the bed, he quickly tries a sitting position, obviously tried on the laying position.

"Jay!" Wealth calls in a daring tone.

"God. This crazy headache." Jordan complains, while he turns to both friends, the look they were giving him wasn't helping either. "What happened?" He asks.

"Nothing serious, you were high on whatever you took, we also met you headed to the cafeteria, " Goriola says in a mock tone.

"Yes, holding hands with a particular junior student, which seems new!" Wealth concludes, making Jordan pause like he was trying to think of something

"I swear I took little, which isn't capable of getting me high!" Jordan says like he was confused.

"Yes, you took little." Goriola chides.

"Fine. I'm sorry!" Jordan says.

"You know this could implicate us right? You are lucky you weren't spotted." Goriola shrugs.

"And what's between you and that girl?" Wealth asks bluntly. Making Jordan pause like he was thinking.

"Which girl?" Jordan asks with an inquisitive look.

"The girl on scholarship in SS2. The one who came in this term!" Wealth asks in a carefree manner. Meanwhile, Goriola facial expression changes. Wealth knew so much, what did they expect from Wealth of all people? Anywhere there were girls, he was there.

"And I wanted to ask about that too!" Goriola says with an undecipherable expression.

"Wait April?" Jordan asks with a confused expression. He looks at both guys. "Nothing!" He blurts out.

"This is the fourth time I am seeing you both together, which is unusual, " Wealth says in a carefree tone. He quickly picks up his sweater.

"Hey, she is a junior student."

"Yeah, a junior student who can hug you anytime!" Wealth says, making Jordan take a quick look at him and nod his head.

"Wealth, don't twist it,  "

"Take it easy!" April says while leading Science down to the parking lot. Since the previous day, she had been unwell, at first they took it as something little, but after what transpired the previous night, the school management had no other choice than to release her for her parents to come to pick her up.

April hadn't really seen her this vulnerable before.

"Mum!" Science calls out with a weak voice. April greets the woman who Science called mum, she took note of the fact, that Science really had a deep resemblance with her mum.

"How are you dear?" Mrs. Chuku asks April with a genuine smile.

"Fine ma."

"When did it start?" Mrs. Chuku asks.

"Last night!" April responds while Science clings to her for support.

"We will go straight to the family doctor!" Mrs. Chuku says directly to Science who gets into the car without saying a word. "It might be food poisoning!"

"Science, be safe!" April calls out to Science who seemed too tired to talk.
Mrs. Chuku gives April a gentle nod before she heads to the driver's seat. In less than a minute April watches their car zoom out of the compound.

   April and Light eyes turn pale immediately after Nancy drops to the floor like a log of wood. Their eyes display shock and fear. Almost everyone in the cafeteria had noticed what was going on and already formed a small crowd.

"What's wrong with her?" April asks with fear evident in her eyes, Light who had no answers to her question, stares at the pale-looking girl trying to process what went wrong.

One minute, they were talking about Science and another minute Nancy was lying almost lifeless on the floor.

"Lift her, to the sickbay." Senior Kelsey and a few other senior students who also noticed what happened panics.

April watches some senior boys whom she didn't know their names lift Nancy. With the look of things, she could tell where they were headed to.

"Let's follow them to the sickbay!" Light suggests, meanwhile April who was already feeling chills and trying hard to wrap her hands around what happened quietly follow Light  guidance without uttering a word.

"Your stares are becoming offensive!" Jordan complains while he puts on his blazers, Meanwhile, Goriola doesn't look away.

"What's going on with you?" Goriola asks with an intense look on his face, Jordan looks away, he wasn't ready to have this conversation, and knowing Goriola, had been fully aware Goriola won't let him be until he talks.

"I am hungry!" Jordan announces in a casual tone.

"As you should!" Goriola chides. "Don't ignore my questions."

Jordan takes a deep breath before facing Goriola fully.

"There is nothing wrong," Jordan says.

"Fuck that! Jay we both know that's crap, " Goriola says. "Before now, we did drugs just for fun and during partying, but you have taken it to another dimension, and it's making you venerable, Jordan you can always talk to me, you know I care so much about you, I won't forgive myself if you become an addict, because I introduced you guys to the stuffs," Goriola says like he was rapping. Meanwhile, Jordan lets out a smile making him stop.

"What's funny!" He frowns.

"You," Jordan responds with a smile. "You sounded girlish!" Jordan smiles.
"Look, I apologize for yesterday, it will never happen again, I was just carried away, I won't get you guys into any trouble, I swear," Jordan says.

"It doesn't matter, you are more important to me than that.” Goriola says, he attempts to say something else but stops himself.

"What's wrong?" Jordan asks.

"Nothing!" Goriola says in a manner, which isn't convincing.

"You sure?" Jordan asks. "I am starving."

"You guys can go, I will wait till she wakes up," April says to Light and Nimi. Light didn't look like someone ready to leave, while Nimi on the other hand seemed exhausted.
"The three of us can't be here at the same time for long!" April repeats what the nurse had said.

"Let's just wait a while, she might wake up." Light says like a child pleading for more milk.

"Light. She doesn't look like someone who will wake up soon." Nimi says taking another look at Nancy who looked like an innocent baby, while unconscious.

"How is she doing?" A third party asks, clearing clearly everyone's attention.

  April uses her eyes to scan the lady, who walked in with the nurse, she had seen her around. She was a teacher although she didn't tutor their class.

"I'm her guardian!" The Lady says to the nurse.

  The lady finally makes eye contact with them, they could tell she just noticed them, due to her reaction.

"She hasn't woken up yet!" The nurse says.

"Are you guys her friends?" The lady finally asks.

"Yes!" Light replies before the others.

"Was it a great fall?" She asks.

"We were talking when she slumped!" April says watching the lady's expression, she notices the lady didn't show any form of shock or anything. Just like she knew such will occur.

"She will be fine!" The nurse says. "She didn't sustain any injury, it didn't look like a great fall, we should just let her rest, maybe you girls can check in tomorrow. I will make sure to keep her under observation."

"Hope it isn't that serious because I will have to call her dad."

  April lets out a weak smile while she walks into the room, Nancy was laid in.

She woke up pretty early, making a mental note of seeing her before going to class. She wouldn't deny the fact she felt lonely. Science wasn't in school, although she wasn't really close to Nancy, these days there weren't acting that weird around each other.
The fact Dumlesi had been ignoring her, did disturb her, although she tried hard not to show it.

She wondered what she did to her, because as far as she could remember. She did nothing. And what Nancy said about the money, kept going on in her mind, wondering if Dumlesi could do much to her.

"Hey!" Nancy calls out weakly while she tries to sit up, she seemed to have noticed April quite fast.

"Take it easy," April says reaching out to her, they both share a brief silence, before April decides to break it.

"How are you doing?" April asks with a small smile.

"Better!" Nancy responds. April took notice of the fact she was trying hard to talk, the fact she looked very pale wasn't helping.
"I hate clinics, although this isn't what it seems like!" Nancy says with a weak smile, April couldn't help but return the smile, because it was the first normal conversation they have had.

"I do too." April smiles. "Are you sure you are...,"

"Great. You are awake, I was about to call you, Dad!" Miss Ann, the alleged guardian of Nancy says with a smile while she walks in.

April wondered how she got in this early, because she clearly didn't look like she stayed on the school premises. Most teachers did stay in the teacher's quarter.

"Good morning Miss!" Nancy's greets politely.

"Good morning!" April greets.

Miss Ann replies to them both with a smile.
"How are you feeling now?" Miss Ann says directly to Nancy.

"I am okay. You don't need to call Dad." Nancy says trying to smile.

"Nancy, have you been taking your pills?" Miss Ann asks in a calm tone.

Meanwhile, April who had no idea of what the conversation was all about, pays attention without making a slight noise.

"Yes!" Nancy responds calmly. Meanwhile, Miss Ann gives her an awkward look.

"You were told to let me know if you start feeling awkward. Like having the signs." Miss Ann says.

"Honestly, it was sudden. One time I was eating and another minute I was on the floor." Nancy defends.

"Have I good rest? I will come to check on you up before noon. Have you eaten anything?" Miss Ann asks with a concerned look.

"Yes!" Nancy replies, meanwhile Miss Ann touches her neck and nods her head before living.

  Another awkward silence ensues for a while after she was gone. But Nancy breaks it this time.

"I know you are wondering. I have CAD." Nancy blurts out, making April's eyes bulge. Nancy let out a weak smile. "I have coronary heart disease. My days are numbered." Nancy smiles.

"I..m..i." April pauses, not able to say another word. She had heard of CAD, but never knew she will come in contact with someone who had it.

"You don't need to look at me with so much pity." Nancy smile.

"Emm, look I didn't mean that. It just came like a shock." April says trying his best to keep eye contact.

"I can imagine." Nancy smiles. "Look you and Dumlesi are the only ones who know about this. I don't know why I felt comfortable telling you. Look I don't want people staring at me like I am dying or something. Can this be between us?" Nancy asks.

"Yes!" April responds.

"Especially Light!" Nancy says taking April by suprise. She wouldn't deny the fact she had noticed their closeness, which seemed suspicious. Although Nancy didn't look like someone who could be interested in dating anyone.
