CHAPTER FOUR 💜

April and Science turn toward the direction from which they heard the voice. A slim, pretty girl stood with a serious expression on her face. April takes a few seconds to examine her. April could not help but notice her thinness and beauty. She silently wondered who was thinner, herself or the girl.

The girls' loud voices pull her out of her rivalry.

"Science, you are practically eating without me," the slim girl remarks, rolling her eyes.

"Without you, or without us?" Another voice asks, completely taking April aback; she did not realize someone else was present.

"I apologize," Science apologizes and rolls her eyes, while April attempts to conceal her discomfort.

"Dumlesi, Nancy, meet April Kuti, our new student. The girl who broke the school's record." Science introduces.

"Oh, Hey! I am Dumlesi Johnson." The dark, thin girl says with a smile as she settles into the chair.

"My name is Nancy Chidebere," the light-skinned, busty girl says. April sensed the girl's hostility and disapproving look but chooses to ignore it.

"I am glad to meet you, your matter has been trending, and I just wanted to see the girl behind it," Dumlesi says, earning a weak smile from April, while Nancy settles down. She appeared to be preoccupied with the bottle of Coke she was holding.

"I told her," Science says, smiling.

"So, what class are you? It is obvious you are in Ss2, Arts, or Science?" Dumlesi inquires, giving Science a funny look.

"Science!" April responds.

"Wow, we are all science students, except this bookworm over here," April says, pointing to Nancy, who sits quietly and says nothing.

"You know, I forgot to ask her," Science says, giving April a gentle smile that she returns.

"That is because you talk a lot; you will just ignore the important things and start talking about the irrelevant ones," Dumlesi says, irritating Science.

"Dumlesi Johnson, this is a new term," Science explains.

"Science Chuku, I am aware," Dumlesi responds, causing everyone to laugh except Nancy, who was not talking or smiling. She was just acting weirdly, staring at the coke bottle she was holding. That was when April realized she had not spoken since she introduced herself. Nancy was strange and beautiful, and her glasses complemented her perfectly. Her light skin appeared spotless. April silently wondered what cream they were using because their skin was all glowing.

"Science, to the left, to the left," Dumlesi says quietly, using her left hand to cover her mouth as if she wanted to gossip. Meanwhile, April, who did not know what was going on, simply followed their gaze. She noticed four boys heading for a seat. April stares at them with her eyes wide open. Waiting for Dumlesi to say something more.

"Senior Wealth just broke up with Senior Chelsea," Dumlesi says, smiling.

"Are you happy?" Science asks, her face expressionless.

"I am tired of them doing the perfect couple shit; we all know Senior Wealth is a player," Dumlesi says, as Science rolls her eyes. This act makes Dumlesi laugh.

"Sorry, I forgot he is your ride-or-die crush," Dumlesi laughs at Science.

"You are stupid," Science says, rolling her eyes.

"But I still stand my ground, Senior Jordan is more handsome, the others are just fair, that is what is helping them," Dumlesi says and laughs, while April stares at the boy she believes is the Jordan they were talking about, the dark-skinned guy in their midst. She casts a glance at both the fair and the one who appeared to be half-caste.

April could not take her gaze away from them; they appeared flawless, and she could tell they were the most popular guys at school based on the way they carried themselves. The fair guy appeared to be telling the half caste something that made him smile a lot. Meanwhile, the dark guy walks down with a serious expression. For some reason, April couldn't take her eyes off him. Like there was something about him. He was just too handsome, tall, and hot.

She gets back to her senses when she sees the rude girl she bumped into approach the dark guy. She seemed to be telling him something serious. Because of the serious looks on their faces.

"Like, when will Wendy stop throwing herself on Jordan Adenuga? Like the guy is literally a snub and we all know they can't have anything that will last long, " Dumlesi complains.

"I only wonder, how he got the post of a Senior Perfect, he is a big-time snub!" Science says amidst laughter.
"Like I spent my long vacation in their family house, and it's been the worst vacation I have had. Fisayo was just feeling too big. The only person I related with was the baby of the house, imagine my holiday, " Science complains making Dumlesi scoff.

"We all know his parents position in this school, what do you expect?" Dumlesi asks.

"Like my problem is, why does Wendy keep pestering him when he is obviously in a serious relationship with I.b, " Science says emphasizing the serious relationship.

"We both know, those girls can't stand each other. Wendy knows what she is doing, " Dumlesi says in a carefree manner while she snatches the piece of chicken in Science plate earning a glare.

"You are a crook; I should have known you were aiming at my poor chicken!" Science sulks.

"Baby," Dumlesi scoffs, biting into her chicken. "Gosh, Jordan is hot; disregard his snobbish attitude," Dumlesi says dreamily.

"Keep drooling over someone's  property!" Science says meanwhile April who was silently eating listened to their conversation even though she didn't really understand what they were talking about.

April is taken aback when Nancy laughs at Science's statement, "I am interested in Senior Wealth tho." She was the only one who laughed; she did not laugh when they said something funny. April pondered in silence why she found Science's remarks so humorous. Science, in the meantime, glares at Nancy, who simply calms down and says nothing. April didn't fail to notice how Nancy spoilt the mood. Everyone just kept quiet but it didn't apply to Dumlesi because she just keep shut for two minutes and resumed blabbering.

Dumlesi was quite a talkative, Science could be classified as an average girl who didn't really talk much or talked when necessary. She was not much of a talker and not a calm person either. While Nancy was so unpredictable.

April simply stared at Nancy, observing intently; she did not just feel it. Her spirit was uncomfortable in her presence. She makes a mental note to avoid her because she was trouble.

                          _____________________ 🖊️

A tiny hiss escapes April as she tries to straighten her uniform. She adored the colour, and it appeared to have been designed specifically for her because it fit her so well. White long sleeves, a white skirt, and blue blazers.

It was irrefutable that April's favorite color was white. She loved the color white. She loved the combination. White and blue. There was a significant difference between day wear, Sunday wear, and the school uniform. The day wear was completely white with blue dotted lines. The Sunday dress was all white, but there were some striking distinctions between it and the school uniform.

They handed out three pairs of navy blue socks to each person. The uniform appeared to be of excellent quality. April was unable to compare it to her previous school uniforms.

"We are so dead," Dumlesi says as she enters the room. April examines her from the corner of her eyes. She appeared complete. From head to toe, her uniform was neatly ironed. Everything seemed so perfect.

"Nancy got up before me and could not even wake me up!" Science complains to Dumlesi.

"How did we even become friends? You know what to expect from that weirdo? Dumlesi poses the amusing question.

"April, did you witness Nancy leave?"Science turns to April, who has been listening to their conversation but pretends not to hear.

"Sorry?" April inquires with a puzzled expression.

"I asked if you saw Nancy leave for school." Science inquires.

"No, I didn't," April replies, clearly recalling how she attempted to conceal her shock upon learning that Nancy was her roommate. Not only her roommate, but also her bunker. She had already decided to avoid Nancy like the plague, and much to her dismay, she could not see how she could avoid a roommate so easily.

"Science, guess what?" Dumlesi asks excitedly.

"You were the one complaining that we were late; now you want to start a gist," Science responds as she zips her school bag, eliciting a chuckle from Dumlesi.

"I do not think we will be able to go for breakfast," a junior girl tells her peer as they walk toward the door, completely capturing Dumlesi's attention.

"Come here," Dumesi says authoritatively, referring to both juniors. capturing April's and Science's interest as well. As it was, they were the only people in the room. Everybody had left for school or breakfast.

"Senior," the plump-looking girl replies, her eyes displaying fear.

"I am now too small; you walked past us without greeting, correct?" Dumlesi asks, clearly scaring both girls.

"I am sorry," the chubby-faced girl pleaded in terror.

"Senior, we are sorry," the other girl says boldly.

"What class are you both?" Dumlesi inquired.

"Jss1," the brave one replies.

"What kept you so late?" Dumlesi asks with a firm tone. "Do you have babies?"

"Dumlesi, please leave those girls," Science says, turning to both girls. "You can run along," she says to the junior girls, both of whom appear reluctant to leave. They both stare at Dumlesi, who has a funny smirk.

"Dums, release them, na," Science says, already tired.

"You can both leave, but if this happens again, or if I ever see any of you in this room running late again. I will definitely punish you both." Dumlesi says, frightening the two girls, who simply turn and leave without saying anything.

"Be punishing them, as if you are not late yourself," Science complains.

"Was this not how our previous seniors treated us? I can't wait till our set rules this school." Says Dumlesi in a sing-along tone.

"April, are you through?" Science inquires as to April's silence.

"Yes, April responds."

"Let us go," Dumlesi says, picking up her school bag.

"Ss2 girls, I do not want to see you all when I return." The hostel perfect girl can be heard from the corridor.

"Kelsey is a bitch," Dumlesi mutters, causing both girls to turn toward her.

"What?" She simply shrugs.

"Be careful; you do not want her to hear this," Science warns.

"I just hate her!" Dumlesi says as they leave the hostel.
