CHAPTER ELEVEN💜

"Hey. "Please excuse me." April says, wondering if that was her voice. The boy she recognized as Light slowly raises his head.

She wondered what was wrong with him because he appeared to be sick. April observes him for a few moments before going inside. She settles down, and after a few minutes, she looks in his direction, only to see him staring ahead. When she noticed he was clearly staring at nothing, she turned to face him with concern.

"Are you alright?" April inquires, surprised that she could actually speak with him.

"Do I look sick?" He scoffs. April looks at him in disbelief, silently wondering why he has such an attitude toward her.

"Sorry!" She says this as she picks up her book, attempting to mind her own business. She flips through it and clearly reads nothing. She kept flipping, as if she was looking for something.

"I am not sick; I just did not get much sleep last night." Light mentions that she noticed he had an accent.

"Okay!" April murmurs. She could hear him laughing.

"Why so plain? Will you not ask why I did not sleep?" Light asks April, who gives him an amused look.

"Do I seem like I stick my nose into things that do not affect me?" April asks now, looking down at her book as if she wanted to focus. Light bursts into laughter at this act.

"Really?" With an accent, Light asks. April does not answer, appearing to be very absorbed in her book.

"All right, I apologize. I realize I sounded rude, but I did not mean it that way!" Light says, trying to make a puppy face. April turns toward him. She burst out laughing after seeing his face, because he looked like a cute baby asking for breast milk. Light smiles as she keeps laughing.

"It is fine, I did not take it personally; I just felt bad because of how you reacted!" April elaborates.

"Hope we are all good?" Light inquires.

"Yes," April replies with a smile on her lips.

"Excuse me!" Science interrupts. Light immediately gets up and moves away, allowing her to pass. Meanwhile, April looks up to Science, only to see the strange expression on his face. She does not miss how rude Science sounded to Light. She blames it on what occurred at breakfast. She felt Science had not moved on from it.

"Kalabari girls are sluts." Tari's loud voice echoed throughout the classroom. Totally captivated everyone's attention. April, in particular, turned to face him on impulse.

"Ibinabor and Boma are living testimonies," Tari says, and Efe agrees. April secretly wondered if they were twins based on their behavior. She could see Dumlesi shining her teeth, like a roasted Christmas goat, and she just smiled because she knew that was what Dumlesi enjoyed.

"Efe, As ugly as you appear. I am astounded you still have trouble keeping yourself from being noticed," said Boma, who appeared to have stopped what she was doing when she heard her name.

"Dry, leave the grammar!" Clinton Boniface, a dark boy in class, says. Almost everyone in the classroom burst out laughing. Boma glares at him.

"Efe, you were the one who mentioned her name; just be glad that Ibinabor and her group are not here. We all know the drama that would have taken place now!" Gideon says.

"You all should stop this, or it might result in something else," Basma, who appeared to be in a bad mood, contributed, as evidenced by her voice.

"Carry that your black face and sit there!" Gideon shouts, making some people laugh.

"Someone will notice her and mistake her for a good person. You all should stop this, or it may result to something else!" Tari mimics clearly getting on Basma's nerve.

April, who watched the drama quietly, could not help but smile. Because nearly everyone in the class seemed troublesome. Because wasn't it the same Gideon who was acting like a peace keeper.

"May Allah have mercy on you," Basma says.

"And you, too!" Tari strikes. Meanwhile, someone laughs loudly, clearly attracting everyone's attention.

"Hian, you understand why I said that Ogoni people should go find their state; Rivers people like us have nothing in common with them!" Gideon attacks Dominion Lelebari, who immediately stops laughing upon hearing that. He glares at Gideon, who appeared unconcerned.

"Gideon, Abeg pack one side; what does that mean?" Dumlesi, who appeared slightly offended, chips in.

"So, it's paining you? When they were insulting the Kalabari people, you were busy shining your teeth, like a Christmas goat; now that I have insulted the Ogoni people, you have a mouth to speak," Gideon fires, while Efe and Tari laugh.

"Is Kalabari superior to Ogoni?" Dumlesi inquired.

"My dear, that's where you need to shut your trap. You cannot compare Kalabari and Ogoni people!" Boma gets involved.

"Boma, I was not talking to you!" Dumlesi attacks.

"I was not talking to you either!" Boma rolls her eyes.

"Ogoni man wey no fit become landlord for him village, Ogoni fior fior! ( An Ogoni man that cannot become a landlord in his village)," Gideon says totally tumbling the whole class, April smiles out because she didn't know if they were laughing because of what he said or how the pidgin sounded. It was just too irritating. She just confirmed that most rich people had difficulty in speaking pidgin.

"Why are you laughing, Boma?" Gideon attacks Boma, who simply rolled her eyes. "Kalabari women, una think say na to born seven for house or to marry different men? ( Kalabari women, you all think it's to give birth to seven children at home with different fathers or to get married to different men), " Gideon asks, making some boys echoed. Why others laughed.

"Gideon, the fact remains your pidgin is irritating!" Nimi Brown attacks. April looks in his direction, puzzled as to why he sat on the last roll, given that she had heard he was one of the best students in class.

"He thinks he said something funny! Mumu, they are laughing at your irritating pidgin." Boma attacks.

"What he said was funny, Joor; who said otherwise? Speak for yourself." Tari attacks Boma who glares at him.

"Short engine!" Gideon yells.

"What about the Ikwerre people?" The only thing they know how to do is to sell land. Very soon, they would have nothing to build on." Dumlesi says, capturing everyone's attention. They were all aware that real drama was about to unfold.

"No be people wey get land, dey become landlord. No, be dem dey sale land? ( Is it not those people that have land that sales it and also becomes landlords), " Gideon fires demonstrating like a woman.

"Na em na! (Thats it), " Efe barks him up.

April smiled for the first time, as she realized what was going on. Gideon was an Ikwerre boy. Ikwerre people loved claiming right. They even felt as though they owned Rivers State. They never want to admit they are wrong. She could tell because her mum was from Ikwerre why her dad was a Yoruba man. It was a weird combination to her. Her mother was never accepted by her father's family.

"The Ogoni people do not have land, which is why they are jealous of us. Even in the villages. Ikwerre men are still landlords; argue with my buttocks." He demonstrates. Getting April to laugh.
"Oil has spoiled your people's lands." The only place they we see you guys us Bunkering, " Gideon fires.

"Ogoni, you guys have been finished; any comeback?" Efe turns to Dumlesi, who responds by rolling her eyes.

"Have not you noticed that every Ogoni man wants to be a lawyer for reasons best known to them? Dominion and Dumlesi. Una sure say una no miss road? ( Are you people sure you are in the right place ) Because I am still wondering what you both are doing in science class!" Gideon says.

"Ride on!" Nimi yells

"As for Yorubas!" Gideon says, smirking. He could already see some classmates staring at him. April smiles as she awaits what he has to say.

"You guys have started bathing, is it not because you guys try and brush your teeth, you would open your mouth, while am talking. See Nimi na!" Gideon says making Nimi laugh hard.

"You no suppose blame them. Dirty na their tradition (You aren't supposed to put any blame on them. Been dirty is a tradition to them ), " Efe says in his confirmed Warri accent.

"You guys need to stop this. We are all one!" Science contributes for the first time.

"Science, I understand when you say we, you mean Ikwerre and Ibo's. But we, the Ikwerrians, reject it. We can not be Ibos, and they can not be us!" Gideon says making some people laugh. And he was sure it was those from Yoruba and Ogoni.

"E no work na! (It won't work )," Efe smiles.

"I am serious, I prefer the Yorubas a thousand times over the Ibos," Gideon declares.

"Hehe, it's better to kill a Yoruba man before killing a snake. They are full of mischief." Boma says sounding serious. Nimi suddenly stands up.

"Boma, a minute, please," Nimi says seriously. "Can I ask you a question?" He asks adjusting properly. While almost everyone looks at him, waiting to hear what he has to say.

"What?" Boma rolls her eyes; she knew he would not say anything reasonable, only something that would irritate her.

"Pardon. I was just wondering. Please judge this, class!" Nimi says now, casting a glance at a few students in the class. Meanwhile, many people stared at him, waiting for what he had to say.

"Boma is a Kalabari name, correct?" He asks, and most people nod in agreement. Also waiting for him to say anything else. "Obi is an Ibo name, correct?" Nimi inquires, as Efe bursts into laughter.

"Boss, I see what you are getting at. No wonder she is like this, big confusion. Kalabari and Ibo, where are you from yourself? Stop confusing us and the thunder!" Efe speaks to Boma, who simply rolls her eyes.

"I am a mixed breed, idiot. I can see your small brain can not handle such!" Boma strikes and hisses.

"We are not fighting, please. Stop attacking me, please; I was only asking a question. Are you not seeing Nimi?" Efe asks, chuckling.

"As for Ikwerre girls like Wendy, they just have a bad life; the majority of them give birth in their fathers' houses," Tari exclaims, as everything falls silent. They noticed Wendy and Darlintina had just walked in. Efe smiles, fully aware that Tari did this on purpose. He knew what he was aiming for.

April is staring intently at the girl who threatened her the other day. She did not appear to be capable of causing harm to anyone.

"Tari, I don't have time for ignoramus!" Wendy hisses and walks over to her sit.

"How many have you gotten pregnant or seem? "Blocked head!" Darlintina fires.

"Even if no one speaks, I know you will. Sapent!" Tari fires.

"Like your mum!" Darlintina fires, clearly provoking Tari, whose face hardens. Meanwhile, Boma's loud laughter can be heard.

"You should all stop this, please. It may lead to something else!" Aisha pleads for the first time.

"Fulani people, wicked heart!" Boma laughs, making Aisha glare at her.

"Boma, what has that got to do with what I said?, " Aisha fires.

"Shut up joor. Seems like you want me to design that you stupid face!" Basma says to Aisha who was openly glaring at her.
