08 | in the eye of the dragon
Your days at Jujutsu High have been filled with an unexpected sense of warmth and belonging. The school, with all its quirks and mysteries, has slowly become a place where you can find some semblance of peace, despite the challenges that continue to loom. Gojo and Itadori's antics provide a welcome distraction, pulling you into moments of laughter that you hadn't thought you'd experience again.
The sound of their laughter as they ride on your back, feeling the rush of wind as you soar high above the world below, is something you cherish deeply. It's not just the exhilaration of flight that fills you with joy, but the sense of connection you've found with these humansโthese sorcerersโwho, despite their peculiarities, have shown you a camaraderie you didn't know you were missing. Their happiness becomes yours, and in turn, you let them see the lighter side of your nature.
"I bet we could race you through the clouds!" Itadori yells, his voice full of that exuberance that you've come to adore.
You let out a low, rumbling chuckle. "I'm not sure you're ready for that," you tease, giving your wings a powerful beat and lifting higher, just to see the wide-eyed look of awe on their faces.
Gojo, ever the one to challenge, grins broadly. "You won't get away that easily!" he declares, and with a burst of energy, he lifts his hand dramatically. "Let's see if we can keep up!"
As you zip through the skies with them, it's clear that while there are still mysteries to uncover, you've found a place where you can just be. Here, you aren't burdened by the weight of your past, nor the isolation you once felt. With Gojo and Itadori by your side, you find solace in the present, even if only for fleeting moments.
Eventually, as you circle back toward the school, the sound of their laughter rings in your ears like a melody, and for the first time in a long time, you feel like you truly belong.
Megumi stands there, drink in hand, the corners of his mouth twitching in disapproval. His eyes narrow at you, like he's trying to figure out how to approach this whole situation. "You can't just goof off all the time, Y/N," he says, his voice dripping with that mix of skepticism and annoyance that only Megumi can pull off.
You, however, can't help but chuckle. The sound bubbles up from your chest, light and carefree, as you flick your wings back in a graceful, almost theatrical motion. They fold neatly behind you, and before Megumi can get another word in, you're already standing in your human form.
Your cheeks flush a soft shade of pink as you run your fingers through your hair, an easy, playful smile dancing on your lips. "I know, I know," you reply with an exaggerated sigh, your tone teasing, "It's just that I haven't really been able to relax ever since I was crowned queen."
You throw him a wink, just to top off the entire moment, knowing full well he's probably wondering how exactly a dragon ends up as a queenโespecially one that has been playing around more than any self-respecting monarch would.
Megumi stares at you for a beat, clearly unamused, but his lips twitch again like he's holding back a sighโor maybe a smile. "Crowned queen, huh?" He pauses, eyes still sharp, his stance more rigid than usual. "You know, you can't just keep acting like the world revolves around you... even if you are a queen."
"Oh, but it does, Megumi," you say with a playful grin, throwing a glance over your shoulder like you know he's watching. "I mean, who else could juggle dragon duties and schoolwork? It's exhausting, really. Being this fabulous takes a lot out of you."
Megumi's eyes roll, the exact expression that tells you he's ready to walk away, but you can see that little flicker of amusement hiding behind that serious facade. "Yeah, well, don't expect me to do your paperwork when the kingdom starts falling apart," he mutters under his breath.
You can't help but laugh, the sound light and airy as you hop up to sit on the edge of the nearest counter, swinging your legs like a kid at recess. "Oh, Megumi," you say, drawing out the words like you're about to deliver some epic wisdom, "there's no kingdom falling apart. At least, not while I'm here."
You lean back, crossing your arms, suddenly feeling that little piece of comfort that comes with knowing you're right where you're supposed to beโdespite how crazy it all is. The two of you stand in comfortable silence for a moment, your teasing energy diffusing, but not entirely gone.
"Seriously though," Megumi mutters, clearly trying to find something to latch onto. "Maybe you should take things a little more seriously sometimes. Not everyone gets to have that much fun and get away with it."
You flash him a devil-may-care grin, "Eh, who says I'm getting away with it? I'm just... managing my stress the best way I know how." You shrug nonchalantly and continue, "Being a queen is tough work, you know."
You smile playfully as you wrap one of your wings around Itadori, the soft, iridescent feathers brushing against his side as you pull him closer. He freezes for a moment, eyes wide, a pink blush creeping up his cheeks. "And I promised you I would help you suppress Sukuna more, right?" you say, your voice teasing yet reassuring.
Itadori nods, a little too enthusiastically, his cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. "Y-Yeah, you did. Thanks, Y/N," he stammers, clearly flustered by the close proximity of your wing and the way it envelopes him like a cozy blanket. It's sweet how much he trusts you, and you can't help but feel a little proud.
But the moment doesn't last. A subtle shift in the air, a sudden tension, and you feel itโthe growing envy radiating from the other two. Megumi stands there with his usual unimpressed expression, but you can almost see the little sparks of jealousy flickering behind his eyes. As for Gojo? He's trying to act like it doesn't bother him, but the way his hand shoots out to grab yoursโquick, almost desperateโsays otherwise.
Gojo's grin stretches wide, though it's filled with that trademark mischief. "Well then," he says, his voice light and teasing, "let's get going. You need to work on your cursed energy too, Y/N." He gives your hand a playful tug, the warmth of his touch lingering as he pulls you toward the training grounds.
Itadori, still a little red in the face, glances between you and the two others. His gaze shifts to Gojo, then to Megumi, like he's unsure of what to do with all the sudden... attention. "Uh, sure," he says, finally breaking free of your wing, though the blush doesn't leave his face.
Megumi, unable to resist any longer, mutters under his breath, "Well, don't forget who was the first to help you out, Y/N..." His voice is barely a whisper, but you catch it, and can't help but laugh softly.
Gojo, sensing the mood shift, looks over his shoulder, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, come on, Megumi," he teases. "Don't be a sore loser. You know you love the attention."
You giggle, feeling a lightness in the air as you finally give in to the playful energy surrounding you. The three of them, a mix of affection and rivalry, all tangled together in the strangest of ways. And you, in the middle of it all, still trying to figure out this world of curses, energy, and dragons.
The journey is just beginning, and it's already far more interesting than you could have imagined.
