chapter twenty one
"championship game"

"MOM, YOU REALLY DIDN'T HAVE to come."

Lynn flashed a sympathetic expression towards her mother while the two walked through the bleachers. Katherine gripped ahold of her shoulders, and softly shook the girl, making a wide smirk take over Lynn's face.

"Honey, I know at first I was a little bit—" Katherine paused to find the right words, and then she gave Lynn a little squeeze on her cheek. "—Weary, of you being on the team, but I've seen how happy it makes you. So, I'm here to support you."

"Thanks, mom," Lynn grinned, she couldn't help but let an overwhelming happy feeling take over her.

"Lynn! You ready?" Stiles asked, appearing from behind Lynn, and she glanced over towards the boy with a prideful smirk. Beside him, was Scott, who didn't look too happy now that he was told he would be benched for the game due to Gerald.

"Hell yeah," Lynn sneered, scrunching up her nose in the boys direction. Then she heard her mother clear her throat behind her, so she sheepishly scratched the back of her neck. "Right. Uh, Scott, Stiles, this is my mom. Mom, Scott and Stiles."

"Nice to meet you both," Katherine smiled, politely reaching her hand out for the two boys, who both took it gently. "I've heard a lot about you."

"Jeez, Lynn, I hope you only said good things," Stiles joked, and Lynn only rolled her eyes dramatically.

"You boys seem good for her," Katherine concluded, and Lynn widely groaned towards her mother as a blush stretched across her cheeks.

Lynn covered her face with her hands in embarrassment, throwing her head back as another groan escaped her lungs.

"Thank you, Mrs. Kennedy," Scott smiled nicely.

"Please, call me Katherine," she corrected, and then her eyes flickered over to the scoreboard counting down the seconds until the game started. "Looks like you three should get over to the field."

Lynn nodded while giving her mother one last sideways hug, and then the three teenagers took off towards the lacrosse field. Where Stiles — who had been told would be taking Greenberg's position this game, and Lynn went straight onto the field, and Scott stayed behind to take a reluctant seat on the bench.

Not into half an hour into the lacrosse game, Lynn didn't think it was physically possible to suck this bad.

They only had only scored three times, and two of those times had been Lynn, where Jackson had managed to score at least one — without killing anyone, thank God.

Lynn skipped to catch up with Stiles who was playing on the right side of the field, and she patiently patted the boys back while pursing her lips out.

"You know I love you, but for the love of God, if you don't get your shit together I'm going to murder you," Lynn mumbled as nicely as she could to her best friend, and she let out a gruff of a groan.

"I'm trying!" Argued Stiles, and Lynn sent him a sympathetic expression.

"Try harder," Lynn indicted, then let out a sigh. "I just want to pound their tiny little asses into the ground, I'm not trying to be mean."

"I know, and I love you, too," Stiles grinned in Lynn's direction, and then the two straightened out their backs as they heard a whistle echo throughout the air, and Lynn jogged back up towards her position in the middle field.

But before she could play, out of the corner of her eye, someone running their way onto the field caught her attention.

"Isaac?" Lynn breathed out in disbelief, mostly because she had already seemed to convince herself that she was never going to see the boy again.

"You really didn't think I was going to miss the big game, did you?" Isaac smirked, and even through his helmet, she could see the smile spreading across his face.

Suddenly off guard, Lynn shot forward to give tall and lanky boy a warm hug. It was a bit awkward at first due to the fact they both had helmets on, and not to mention their shoulder pads, but they made it work. Lynn wrapped her arms over Isaac's shoulder, where the boy snaked his around Lynn's waist.

When Lynn pulled away after a second, Isaac gave her a flushed expression with an even bigger smile than before.

      "What was that for?"

"Not leaving us behind," Lynn faintly smiled in his direction, and then they heard the ref call out about how the next play needed to start, so they both dashed back to their positions and prepared themselves.

"Now maybe we have a chance to win this damn game."

———

"Isaac!"

Lynn jogged quickly down the field as she realized that Isaac, Jackson, and another person from the opposite team had gotten into a scuffle. The giant in the black and yellow jersey didn't struggle to get, nor did Jackson seem to affected, but Isaac stayed laying on the ground.

She and Isaac were currently in the middle of their plan of knocking off different teammates so that Coach would have no choice but to put Scott in — they needed every werewolf on the field just in case Jackson decided to do something.

Lynn glared Jackson daggers as the boy shrugged off his helmet, but by the way he had a smirk written all over his face, she knew he must've done something.

She yanked off her helmet as she knelt down beside Isaac, who wasn't moving anything below his waist. She placed a hand on his knee, and then another one his shoulder, gaining his attention from groaning out in pain. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Scott standing on the bench with an extremely concerned glance.

"It's not broken, but I can't move it," Isaac explained quickly before any other teammates of refs could come over and hear their conversation. "I think Jackson nicked me 'cause I can feel it spreading."

By now, two EMT's had made their way over with a backboard for Isaac. Lynn reluctantly let go on the boy as the two men shifted his body to place him gently on the board, and Lynn let a grumble of annoyance escape her system.

"You want to play chess, Scott?" Gerard echoed through Lynn's ear, she her ocean blue eyes flickered over towards Scott, who was now jogging into the field. "Then you better be willing to sacrifice your own pawns."

Lynn's nostrils flared in annoyance as her jaw tensed up, and she wandered over towards where her mother was sitting on the bleachers in excitement, and there was pride covering her face. Instantly, Lynn's face softened up, especially at the fact that Katherine had managed to find her way over towards the Sheriff and Melissa, Stiles' and Scott's parents.

And the game continued on until they were a few minutes into the fourth quarter, where it seemed like every other play Scott, Stiles, or Lynn were sent flying to the ground.

Lynn grunted out in pain as she was slammed to the ground by being squeezed in between two of the other teammates — who didn't try too hard to hide the fact they were purposely doing it even when she didn't have the ball. Her head ricocheted off the hard ground, and she knew her entire body would be littered with bruises coming the next day.

Lynn leaned over so that she was off her back, and used her palms for support to push herself back up. The ref quickly asked if she was okay to continue playing, and she waved him off simply while bending over to pick up her white lacrosse stick.

"Damn! Maybe we should have more girls on the team, it'll be something nice to look at."

Lynn slowly finished pulling her now dirty lacrosse stick as she glanced over her shoulder at a short and plump boy of the opposite team standing in front of her. He had his arms triumphantly crossed over his chest, and a few of his teammates let out short chuckles at the comment.

Her nostrils flared in anger as she readied herself to shove the lacrosse stick straight up the boys ass — but then her eyes fluttered over to her mother sitting in the crowd and she gritted her teeth harshly. She needed to show the woman that she was in complete and utter control.

"People like you are the reason I have anger issues," Lynn snapped, narrowing her eyes suspiciously at the boy as she had the sudden urge to just nail him in the balls. "I'm busy; you're ugly, have an amazing night."

Lynn gazed past the boys as their laughs boomed throughout the air, her eyes fell on the crowd filling the benches. But then her eyes furrowed in confusion as her heartbeat started increasing, where the hell was Gerard?

Lynn ran as fast as lightning over to Scott, who had just been sent flying to the ground, and she lent a hand to the boy struggling on the ground. Instantly, Scott's hand intertwined with here as she helped him up from the ground.

      "Scott, it's Gerard, I swear—"

Lynn was interrupted as a man's voice flooded her ear, not even having her heightened hearing focused right now, but somehow it's like her mind knew to listen in.

It was Gerard, his very hoarse tone of voice was easily recognizable, "It was a good effort, Isaac, it was."

"Isaac," Lynn breathed out, feeling as if every single breath of air was suddenly sucked out of her lungs like a vacuum. Scott looked with utter concern towards Lynn, and when he tried listening in, he didn't hear anything himself. "Isaac, Gerard's going after Isaac."

"How do you—"

"—No time, I have to go!" Lynn interrupted, and she jerked off her helmet while running off the field.

She didn't leave much time for anyone to call after her, and if they did, Lynn didn't hear. She had made her way behind the first set of silver bleachers, and threw her lacrosse stick and helmet down by the dirt ground. She honed on on her supernatural hearing, and she could hear the way that Isaac's heartbeat was frantic, and his breathing heavy.

There wasn't any time, she didn't have the time to get back to the school from the field, and she knew it. So, she reluctantly clasped her eyelids shut while focusing on taking deep breathes, she then switched over to the crowd. No one seemed to be paying attention to her hiding behind the bleachers, so once she deemed it safe.

She shifted.

Within a second, Lynn's once soft skin was replaced with massive bundles of white animal hair. She was now on all fours, her regular teeth were replaced with canines, and she could feel the brightness of her blue eyes shining through.

With one last glance towards the crowd — who still seemed to not even notice her in the slightest, she darted off to take a familiar path through the forest. So one, no one from the game would be able to recognize her, and two, it was a shortcut for her.

It only took Lynn a minute to get to the school, and she busted through the blue doors to the main hallway with a howl. She then focused on her hearing, noticing that Isaac's heartbeat was down the next hallway, in the boys lockerroom.

She then took off in that direction, her claws scratching the flooring tiles and making an echoing noise as she did so. She sued her right shoulder to shove open the door, and as she jumped in on all fours, she noticed Gerard and two men standing of both sides of him, with a silver sword wrapped in his fingertips, and Isaac was leaning with all his weight on a sink.

And Lynn let out the strongest, wildest growl she had ever managed in her entire life.

Isaac seemed utterly confused, yet slightly impressed, but still was concerned with the situation at hand. Gerard didn't seem too shocked at seeing the white wolf with glowing blue eyes, but the two hunters with him did seem a bit taken back.

"Evelynn Kennedy, I was wondering when you would make an appearance," Gerard faintly, yet wickedly, smiled. Isaac switched from the hunter over towards Lynn, him tilting his head in the slightest bit as he recognized her familiar eyes.

The wolf let out another growl while slowly inching closer towards the men, her white teeth snarling through her gums.

In all happened in a second — Lynn managed to get a deep cut on the taller man's leg, sending him flying to the ground. The second man had charged the wolf, but she bit harshly onto his forearm as he aimed a gun at her, letting a single bullet shoot into the tiles.

After she nailed the henchmen, Lynn then turned her attention towards where Gerald had been previously standing, but the older man was no where to be seen.

Now knowing that Isaac was out of immediate danger, at least for right now, she then switched back over to Isaac. The boy had been staring the entire time with awe towards the wolf, and she took a few pawsteps over towards him.

Lynn sat down on her butt while nodding her head off to the side, her tail softy wagging against the floor — heavy pantings escape her canine lungs. Isaac the bent down on his knee's, and he placed a gentle hand on top of Lynn's head, his hand softly brushing up against her thick hairs.

Isaac blinked for not even half a second, but in that short amount of time Lynn had shifted back into her human form. She was resting on her knee's while using her arms to cover as much of her chest that was possible, although it did help that her long brunette strands covered the important parts.

Isaac's hand had slipped to her soft, human, cheek, now holding her with precise carefulness while she glanced from the ground up to make eye contact with him.

The boy seemed to avoid staring at the fact that Lynn was completely and utterly naked, instead just glancing deeply into those ocean blue eyes of hers.

"Didn't know you could do that," Isaac said with a bit of a dumbfounded tone, where there was still awe written in his eyes.

Lynn smiled softly while letting a chuckle escape her lungs, she dropped her head a bit shyly.

"Let me, uh, grab you something," Isaac spoke through the growing awkward tension, immediately removing his hand from Lynn's cheek as he bounced up from his spot — running over towards his own locker.

Once he snaked his fingers around a rather large dark grey t-shirt, he quickly handed the shirt over to Lynn while he kept his hand covering his eyes. She smiled at his being extremely gentlemen like, and then rapidly shrugged on the clothing — it went on long past her thighs, so at least she didn't have to worry about her butt being exposed.

"You were a wolf," Isaac stated, and he sounded a bit breathless, still onlooking with absolute awe.

"You might want to close that mouth of yours, wouldn't want flies getting in there, now would we?"
