chapter forty nine
"we fight"

      LIGHT.

LYNN DIDN'T KNOW THAT the sun could ever be so bright, but here she was — seemingly opening her bright blue eyes for the first time in days, fully being able to take it all in. Cursed Derek's usual beautiful open windows.

Her eyelids fluttered a few times while trying to adjust, her pupils contracted. She squeezed them shut one more time, and then forced them as open as possible. Taking in her surroundings, she quickly realized she was now laying in Derek's loft — the last thing she remembered was Stiles' room. Had she went to the hospital? What time was it? No, what day was it? Questions swirled in and out of her mind, until she was interrupted.

"Evelynn, baby?"

Lynn tugged in the direction of her mother's voice, confusion written all over her face. She winced, not so noticeably to anyone else, but pain had flown even more heavily in her veins.

"Mom?" Lynn questioned, but her voice was hoarse, unknown to her, but it because it had been three days since she has fallen into her comatose state. "What..."

The older werewolf instantly brought over a now opened bottle of water to her younger daughter, a few of the wet liquid trickled quite a few drops into her dry mouth. Heavy pants could be heard from Lynn, and she felt as if her head was quite literally about to explode right then and there.

"Derek," Lynn mumbled out, and then her eyes searched dramatically for the image of the man she loved, so when she came up empty, she repeated it more forcibly. "Derek."

'"Honey..." Katherine drifted, and Lynn jerked her head in the direction of her mother, and it felt like a dozen tiny little daggers were making their home in her heart. Once Katherine recognized the fear that had spread across her daughters face, she recollected. "He's okay, love, but he just needs some time."

"What happened?" Lynn questioned, and there was a bit of venom tracing her tone of voice, and she began scrambling out of Derek's quite comfortable bed, but felt void without feeling the warmth of his body.

"Evelynn," Katherine reached out, wrapping her fingertips around Lynn's arm to force the girl to come to a halt just as she swung her legs off the mattress, them meeting the cold of the wooden boards. "He needs rest right now, what he just did drained him."

"What he just did?" Lynn shouted, ripping her arm straight from the once tight grip that her mother held on her, but angry was a greater force than they both knew. "What the hell does that mean? Where is he!?"

"Upstairs."

Lynn swung on her heels once she knew who the husky and slightly familiar voice, and her brunette eyebrows knitted together as she growled at him — at Peter Hale. He appeared to be just fine, as always, he managed to be unscathed from anything that happens in the haunted town of Beacon Hills.

"Then let me see him," seethed Lynn through her clenched teeth, the only thing in the entire world that made sense right now was Derek. "What the hell happened to me? What happened to him?"

"So many questions, so little time," Peter tilted his crooked head, and the mere image of the little smirk that slithered onto his lips made Lynn was to shove her claws straight into his heart.

"Don't patronize her," Katherine scolded the older man, who only warningly narrowed his eyes into slits at the woman, who then wrapped an arm around Lynn, embracing a short, warm hug. "I'll explain everything."

"So...everyone's parents are about to be ritually sacrificed, Derek was the one to heal me, but at the cost of no longer being an Alpha, and Jennifer, my English teacher, is actually the one murdering everyone?"

Both of the adult werwolves, Peter and Katherine had two extremely similar awkwardly pinched expressions when Lynn had finally concluded everything they had just told her from the days she had missed by being almost dead. It wasn't even like half of it was real to Lynn, like it was some crazy dream that occurred like she was on a shit ton of drugs.

It couldn't be real, could it?

That Derek was no longer an Alpha, because he scarified that power for her. For as long as Lynn had know Derek, he was an Alpha, and he was a dangerous one at that. He wanted a pack, a strong one, and she had no idea what he would do now that was gone. All for her.

Apparently, the man was so drained that he passed out on the spot once he had finished projecting all that power into Lynn to save her from her enviable death, and they had transported him into the spare room upstairs to rest several hours ago. She wanted to go see him, but knew he needed to gather his strength still — Kali wasn't going to give this fight up, and now that Derek is a Beta again, she was going to want to win even harder.

"So, why did Jennifer target me? Why poison me with the mistletoe?" Lynn questioned, her eyebrows furrowed together as she tried gathering her thoughts.

"Because of your—"

"—We're still trying to figure that out," Katherine interrupted, and Peter flashed an annoyed glance in the woman's direction for swiftly cutting him off, but then recognization crossed his face — of course, she doesn't want her daughter finding out that her fathers alive.

But Lynn didn't believe her words, she could hear the hiccup of her mothers heartbeat, the single drop of sweat that had trickled down her eyebrow. Why would she lie?

"So, what's the plan?" Asked Lynn, trying to avoid eye contact with her mother so Katherine wouldn't be able to tell that Lynn knew something was wrong.

"We aren't sure yet," Katherine responded simply, shrugging her shoulders.

"Well, I do," Lynn instructed, lifting herself up from the bed with a determined expression scribbled on her face. "We fight."

"Derek?"

Lynn softly murmured the mans name a few times as he shuffled a few times in the bed, not being able to find a comfortable position. A beautiful sleepy expression had taken over his usual brooding face, where his typical creased with worry forehead had disappeared, and it was because of that glance that always made her love sleeping with him.

It had been several hours since Lynn had originally woken up from her poisoned state, with the only thanks being due to Derek for sacrificing his powers, all for his girl. He had yet to wake, but Lynn could tell it was much needed sleep. However, at this point it appeared that he was in a restless state of sleep -- nightmares were flooding his thoughts, not that Lynn could know, but she could only guess.

"Derek, love?" Lynn commented again, and now this time, she had warmly placed a hand on Derek's free shoulder.

With her voice being just slightly louder, mixed with the fact that Derek could feel her love through her touch, he had woken up startled. Breathless, Derek launched forward on the small, spare queen bed as his green eyes unbolted, and his strong knuckles gripped the sheets with an incomparable strength.

Concern scattered across Lynn's face like a wildfire, and she immediately perched forward to hook her hands around both of Dereks shoulders, forcing the man to make eye contact with her. The two stayed glued in their spots like statues, deeply staring into the eyes of each other as if it had been years since they saw the other.

"You're okay," breathed Derek, and it was almost like a sigh of relief, of pure joy. Then, the smallest of smiles had spread across his once frightened expression, his eyebrows loosened from their tightened position. "My girl's okay..."

Lynn grinned to herself at hearing the words, hell, it was just Dereks whole voice at this point -- it didn't matter what he said, she was so comforted to know he was okay.

"My boy's okay," Lynn sniffled a bit, instantly blinking a few times to make sure none of the tears brimming her eyes would escape, but she didn't even care at this point, when did she become so emotional? "Are you alright?"

"Are you?" Countered Derek, and Lynn tilted head with a single perked eyebrow, of course they would just instantly go back to their adorable banter. "I feel...fine. Weird, but fine."

"Same," Lynn spoke up, tracing her hands down to Dereks, that were still apparently gripping the sheets as if his life depended on it. She gathered them together in between her own two hands, giving them a reassuring squeeze. "I owe you, Derek, I owe you everything--"

Lynn was interrupted from her rambling go apologies mixed with appreciation, because Derek launched forward to place his hands on both sides of Lynn's cheeks, pulling her forward to plant a beautiful kiss on her lips. They were both desperate for each other, in this moment, it felt as if nothing else in the entire world existed except for the two of them.

"I would do anything for you, Evelynn Kennedy absolutely anything," Derek stated the mere second that his lips parted from Lynn's, almost breathless. "Giving up my powers? It was nothing compared to knowing that you are safe."

Lynn felt speechless, for once -- there was no snarky comment ready to drip from her tongue, she was standing here with a dropped jaw and absolutely no words being able to form.

"No one has ever made me feel like this," Lynn mumbled, feeling overwhelmed as she tried to process every feeling of emotion she had for Derek. "They were right, weren't they?"

"Who was?"

"Those stupid fucking poets," Lynn laughed out, almost like a scoff, and she glanced towards Derek or his reaction, but he still seemed a bit confused. "I can't even describe it, it's just you. Derek, I look at you, and I know. I know that I would always choose you, in a hundred lifetimes and a hundred worlds, I would choose you."

It was now Derek's turn to be unbelievably and inevitably speechless, her eyes only filled with pure love as Lynn spoke, and his usual uneven frown had shifted into a permeant smile, and he leaned forward to press his forehead against that of Lynn's his hands not daring to leave the soft skin of Lynn's cheeks.

"Evelynn Kennedy, you are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known, and even that is an understatement," Derek responded, his voice low and sexy, and Lynn felt like there were about a million butterflies erupting in her stomach, and maybe a few going below as well.

"Did you just quote Scott Fitzgerald to me?" Lynn cracked a little grin, a little chuckle escaping her system as she peeled her forehead from Dereks, who had a quite similar smile stretching on his own face.

"I believe I did," Derek replied, and his eyes fluttered between Lynn's eyes, down to her lips, and right back up.

"Well, would you like to stop undressing me with your eyes and kiss me?" Lynn retorted, rolling her blue eyes playfully as her smile only grew tenfold, including Derek's.

"Don't have to ask me twice."
