LEXI STOOD FROZEN, her muscles not daring to move an inch with the woman she slowly grew to despise was now in front of her. She examined Annabeth, tracing her features up and down, wondering how a respectable woman like her would abandon a baby as a newborn.
Her eyes blinked back and forth between Johnny and Annabeth, her mind cogitating immensely, not even knowing why Johnny would even think for a second that Lexi would want to see her.
Lexi has thought about this day for a while now, figuring out what she was going to say to her biological mother if she were to run into her. But now, when Annabeth was sitting nervously in front of her, it's like Lexi's mind was completely blank and useless.
"Dad, w-what is she doing here?" Lexi surprised herself when she had enough strength to even muster up her sentence. Johnny gave her a look of sympathy, but it also seemed as if he didn't despise Annabeth either.
"Hi, Elexcia, honey, I know you probably don't want to see me butโ"
Lexi abruptly cut off the older woman, her piercing eyes filled with detest. She stepped closer to Annabeth, their bodies inches apart as she stared into the dull eyes of the person she should be calling 'mom.'
"Don't call me 'honey.' You have no authority to waltz into my life like this and play the mom card. I don't want to hear what you have to say," Lexi spat viciously at the woman.
"I have a mom. Yeah, she may not be blood-related, but she will be a better mom than you would ever be. Plus, she's hotter than you."
Annabeth looked at her biological daughter in shock while Johnny was sitting still on the sofa, attempting to suppress his proud smile, but quickly hid it when Lexi glared at him. Annabeth's red stiletto heels were clicking incessantly on the hard floors, aggravating the teenager even more.
"You left me in a fucking bush." Lexi would always joke about saying she found it in a bush, but now that she thought about it again, that joke was about to be ruined.
"I know, but I have a good reason for thatโ"
"Please, you didn't even tell Dad about me. For fifteen years, my dad could have spent more time with his daughter and my brother could have spent more time with his sister, but no. You didn't even have the audacity to let him know you were pregnant with his child."
The air was silent, the only noise was the slow mellow sounds of the air conditioning. Johnny seemed to be at a loss of words, struggling to talk. Annabeth noticed his struggle so she explained to Lexi why she was really there.
"Look, Elexcia, the real reason why I'm here is that I want you to come live with me. Not only is my lifestyle more stable than Johnny's, but I can also provide you a better life than he ever could." That's when Johnny stood up, whipping his head at the incredulous woman.
Johnny was completely lost in thought about what Annabeth told him earlier, those specific thoughts not leaving his mind. But when she threatened to take away Lexi from not only him but also Daniel, that's when he drew the line.
"Annie, that's enough. There's no way in hell, you are taking my daughter away from me."
"She's my daughter too."
Johnny scoffed, an annoyed and sarcastic smile plastered onto his face. "Yeah, barely," Johnny whispered under his breath.
Lanie shook her head in frustration. Not only did she break up with her boyfriend, but on the same night, it seemed to get worse when her mother decided to pop up out of nowhere. "I need some fresh air."
Lexi stepped out of the apartment, tears she didn't even know she still had, were now streaming down her cheeks once again.ย Attempting to take in a deep breath, Lexi failed her stressed out mind was collapsing.
Lexi let out a small scream of frustration. She didn't want to wake up her neighbors, but it helped her aching heart.ย
Lexi's first instinct was to whip out her phone and text Eli, but then she remembered, they weren't together anymore. The sounds of the door creaking behind her, made Lexi jump in her place, putting her hands up, prepared to fight anyone if she had to.
But her defensive demeanor was suddenly relaxed when she saw it was Miguel standing in his doorway. His black curls were messy, a few strands of hair falling over his face as he wore his blue and red Captain America pajamas.
"Lexi, what are you doing out at night during this time?" Miguel's eyes were still slightly closed, him trying to rub off the sleep from his eyes. Lexi didn't respond, instead, she ran up to her best friend and gave him the tightest hug possible. At first, Miguel was caught off guard, but he hugged back, hearing the soft sobs coming out of her lips.

Lexi was sitting on Miguel's couch, looking straight at her feet as he brewed some water for hot cocoa. She hasn't spoken a word ever since she walked into Miguel's house and he desperately wanted to know what was on her mind but decided not to pry for now.
When the hot cocoa was ready, Miguel gently handed her the mug, Lexi whispering to him a soft 'thank you' before taking a sip of the chocolate liquid. Despite the pair having school tomorrow, neither of them didn't care at the moment.
"So what was all of that back there?" Miguel asked cautiously, hoping his best friend would tell him everything like they used to. Lexi hesitated at first, not wanting to bring up the painful memories of both Eli and Annabeth, but there was a sliver in the back of her mind saying 'talking to Miguel would help.'
"Hawk and I broke up. I'm sure you saw what happened when he went to the dojo." Miguel nodded sadly, remembering the painful look on Eli's face when he walked into the dojo.
But Miguel started to questionย whether Eli was upset about his hair, or the fact he lost Lexi. But the only thing on his mind right now was attempting to cheer up Lexi.
"Are you okay, Lexi?" Miguel's tone of voice was soft and he hated to see her cry like this. His heart shattered, even more, when Lexi shook her head 'no' and faltered into Miguel's arms, patently needing a hug from someone who hasn't left her yet.
Lexi sobbed into Miguel's chest as she he held her tightly against him rubbing soft circles on the small of her back. Her breathing was erratic and her eyes were surely going to be swollen in the morning.
"Miguel, what's wrong with me? Why does everyone in my life leave me?" Lexi wasn't just mentioning Eli, but also her biological mother who left her when she was an infant and despite her being literally across the hall, it still felt like she was being abandoned once again.
Miguel's heart shattered at Lexi's vulnerable state. The once happy and always outgoing girl was now broken and her life was falling apart immensely.
"Hey, Lexi, look at me. No, no, why are you looking away? Look at me," Miguel said in a stern yet caring tone. Lexi's bloodshot eyes were met with Miguel's soft brown doe ones as he cupped her cheeks with his hands and brushed his thumbs to wipe away her stray tears.
"There is nothing wrong with you. You are a beautiful ray of sunshine and you're absolutely perfect the way you are. Screw Hawk. If he can't see the amazing beauty in front of him, then he's not worth it." Lexi smiled slightly at Miguel's kind and genuine words.
"As for your bio-mom, that's her loss. She missed out on raising a wonderful child." Lexi looked up and Miguel and tilted her head in confusion wondering how he knew all of this information. Lexi told him about her mom before, but she didn't tell him about the recent events.
"How did you know about my mom?"
"Sensei texted me wondering where you were and I told him you were going to stay here for the night. I don't really know what happened but he briefly explained the situation." Lexi nodded her head, not minding that Johnny told Miguel since she completely trusts him with everything.
"Thank you, Miguel. I really don't know what I would do without you." Miguel smiled and placed a small kiss on the top of Lexi's head and was about to walk back into his room to go back to sleep, until she called out his name and he turned around swiftly, waiting for her to speak.
"I like your pajamas, but you should remember, I might have to beat your ass because I'm team Iron Man." Miguel scoffed playfully and put his hands on his shirt, flattening out the graphics on his t-shirt and flashing it straight on Lexi's face before walking back to his room.
Lexi got herself situated on the sofa, laying down on her back, but her eyes weren't drifting off to sleep. Instead, they were wide open, her thoughts invading her mind.

"Johnny you should've backed me up back there," Annabeth whined, annoying Johnny immensely. He didn't want her to take away his daughter and there was no way that was about to happen.
Johnny knew he would never let that happen, however, the information that Annabeth told him earlier, made his mind spin constantly. He thought about it over and over again, wondering if it could even be possible, but with everything adding up, Johnny had no choice but to believe it was true.
"Hello, are you even listening to me?" Johnny reluctantly dragged his thoughts back into reality as she gave Annabeth an annoyed look.ย
"No, I'm not listening to you. What you told me earlier is bullshit. I refuse to believe it's true."
"Johnny stop, you're overreacting." Johnny shot Annabeth a harsh glare, desperately wanting to throw the woman out of his apartment.
"How the hell am I going to tell my daughter that her grandfatherโyour father is the man we all despise the most?" The thought of Annabeth's father made Johnny cringe and his mind was completely blank, not even sure how he was going to tell Lexi who one of her biological grandparents was.
And Lexi's grandpa was no other than John Kresse.
