alyssa cordelia liu was born on august seventeenth, 2002 to selena liu and unknown father who left her mother after her little brother, jackson, was born. her mother was a nurse and worked long shifts at the hospital, so alyssa always cared for jackson. despite her mother being away most of the time, the family of three was still close. they lived in the valley their entire lives, and alyssa grew up being friends with two boys, eli moskowitz and demetri alexopoulos. the three of them were extremely close, even though alyssa could admit that she was closer to eli than she was to demetri. however, the arrival of a new student at west valley named miguel diaz also brings cobra kai back, a karate dojo. after they witness miguel fight kyler and his friends in the cafeteria, alyssa tags along with eli and demetri to a lesson. the sensei insults all of them, and demetri quits. alyssa goes to one more lesson with eli, but after sensei lawrence insults eli's lip, she quits as well. she helps him transform into hawk, but soon regrets her decision because he turns into someone completely different that she doesn't recognize. when she realizes what cobra kai can do to a person, she joins miyagi-do with demetri, which is the beginning of the downfall for her and eli. she advances in her karate and eventually ends up fighting hawk during the school fight. her and hawk constantly feud with each other until the fight at the larusso house when he helps her and demetri. the two of them reconcile, and while dealing with the rivalry between cobra kai and miyagi-do, they become something way more than friends.
